I am looking for a good laptop/desktop replacement so I purchased the Surface to see if it was ready to fill those shoes. I am pleasantly surprised, it has the power, the windows OS so I can join it to our domain, and great and powerful video resolution. So maybe?

My small laptop screen broke and I use it for traveling and being able to have the windows environment...I also have an Acer iconia 500A that is used a lot...The surface has allowed me to still be able to do things while away that I can't do with the android and I didn't want another laptop which is heavier...so for me the surface has fit my needs perfectly! Would recommend to anyone to purchase! My granddaughter has the Surface RT and she loves it!

First one wouldn't hold a charge, had to exchange. I was worried this would be an ongoing problem but new one seems fine.

Excellent. If you travel like me with your laptop for work and tablet for entertainment this one covers the best of both worlds. I'm doing my MBA online and I can travel with only this tablet and everything will work exactly as in my computer, no compatibility issues, or lack of flash for videos, etc..

Overall this computer was a great buy! My dad needed an upgrade from a 2004 dell laptop. This was the best computer to match what he wanted to use it for. If you are looking for a great laptop without burning a massive hole in your wallet, you should definitely consider getting this computer!!

A Power-Packed Tablet for Serious Productivity

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The concept of a productivity focused tablet has long held appeal for me. Almost all current tablet offerings exist primarily as media consumption devices. The capacity to interact with productivity stalwarts such as Word and Powerpoint via touch coupled with the sublime capability to effectively transcribe notes by hand using the excellent stylus is of great value in my line of work. All of these tasks and many more are accomplished with ease by the new Surface. It should also be mentioned that the build quality is top-notch and the type cover upon which I am writing this review is the best "keyboard cover" I have ever used by a fair margin. There exist many solutions to the "hybrid' proposition raised by Windows 8 and, for me, the Surface Pro is the most elegant of these. If you have different needs than me and require more tablet-like battery there exist plenty of products for you as well #such as the Iconia W700#. Finally, I ought to respond to some of the commonly cited criticisms of the Surface Pro. It is true that the Pro is noticeably heavier and thicker than the ARM based iPad #or equivalent#. I have not found this objectionable and still can handle the Pro easily in one hand but I would guess weight sensitivity varies by the individual. Battery life on the Pro has been around 5hrs during my fairly rigorous work usage. This is in keeping with most Ultrabooks of similar specs and a fair bit better than many convertible tablet options #Vaio Duo 11 for instance#. Given the fact that the Surface Pro is one of the very smallest Ultrabooks in existence, I would say this is quite an achievement. Lastly, it has often been asserted that the Surface Pro lacks the ability to be used on one's lap in an analogous manner to a laptop. This, as with weight sensitivity, likely depends on individual preference. I am typing this review on my Pro while sitting in a recliner with the tablet positioned on my lap. I have no difficulty with this position and do not find it in the least precarious. I have listed the value for this item as "Average" because the approximately $1200 entry price represents a midpoint in Ultrabooks of similar specs. This latest offering out of Redmond will certainly not be for everyone but, for those who require a small, powerful computer with excellent touch and stylus capability it may prove an excellent option. The Surface Pro illustrates the full potential of Windows 8 and, for me at least, makes an excellent travel companion and work laptop.
