Good, but not enought for school
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this Tablet for 24 hours, I loved it at the beginning but I returned it because I couldn't use it for school. It didn't allow me to open to school website, so what I did is that I put the extra bucks and got the pro, even though I am broke now but it is worth it !!

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Too heavy , short battery life , no good apps, the pen is cool you can write on the screen, but other than that my wife really did not care for this tablet.

nice device
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In order to make this a complete set u have to buy all accessories separately. All accessories are expensive especially the keyboard that is compatible. Microsoft should bundle this and sell everything a person needs for this device all in one.

Fantastic! Replaced my laptop with this computer.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been thinking about getting a tablet for a year now but I was not interested in having yet another device to manage and keep in synch. The Surface was the ideal solution for me. It's a serious computer that allows for doing real office work as well as a fantastic device for casual browsing and other "consumption" oriented tasks online. Screen - excellent resolution and screen quality. I also added a 22" screen for my work desktop via HDMI interface. Keyboard - the typepad keyboard is great for casual at home use. I also added a full size wireless keyboard and mouse for heavy duty use at the office. Speed - top notch. Start and reboot times are great with this device. Just a few seconds for each. Everything about this device is FAST Storage - got the model with 128gb of storage. Holds all my apps, office and digital photos going back to 2001. I don't do much with video but it would be easy to offload large video files to usb storage, skydrive, etc. Windows 8 - Fantastic for this device. I can understand complaints about the lack of a start button on the desktop and if Microsoft would just handle that complaint I think they'd have some pretty happy legacy customers. The touch interface on the surface #via Windows 8# is different, but once you get used to it you'll love it. Last couple of days on my Android phone, I keep trying to use gestures I've learned on the Surface only to have to remember they aren't available on the Android. Apps - aka "programs" - while the "app store" doesn't have as many apps as Apple or Android this is hardly a problem as this computer will run EVERY program I've ever used/needed in the last 10 years including Office, VS development tools, SQL server, MySQL tools, you name it ... it will work on this computer. Bottom Line - I've been in the computer/software field since the 1970's #yes I'm old# - and I haven't been excited about a computer in a number of years. The Surface has me excited about computers again. I see this as the start of a whole new class of multi-purpose touch based systems that function not as just consumption devices but truly useful devices for work as well.

Fan noise becomes ridiculously bad
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The original Surface I bought worked great for a while. Eventually the fan became unbalanced and would make excessive noise. I used to take it to class but it became so loud that I had to stop as it would have been loud enough to distract the whole class. Embarrassing. My brother also bought one and while he didn't end up having a problem with the fan, the microphone on his was so bad he ended up having to plug in an external one to do Skype calls. Microsoft seems to continually cheap out on its products with cheap parts. Very disappointed.

Great device fo
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I reach for this device when I need more flexibility or power than my iPad affords but don't want to lug around my laptop or sit at my desk. I travel frequently for work and have to create and edit doc files, spreadsheets, presentations, and photoshop graphic files. My Surface Pro has replaced my 15" Macbook Pro as my traveling work machine. It's a great companion for vacations as well - that screen (and the connectivity) is great for managing and touching up high resolution photos from my DSLRs when I'm on the go. I also find myself reaching for my Surface over my iPad when I know that I'll have to more than 20 words - like filling out forms when I'm shopping online or responding to emails. Build quality is excellent. I Zagg my Apple products because they scratch easily. I've left my Surface un-cased and the body isn't scratched up - though it will smudge fast. The unit is rigid and solidly built. The kick stand is great (I love the click)...but forget using the kickstand/keyboard laptop mode if you don't have a solid surface to rest the device on. The screen is excellent, and the aspect ratio of the machine does away with the letter boxing I get with my iPad when I watch HD movies. However, that same width makes it feel odd when you hold the device in "tall" portrait mode. It always wants to be held in landscape. Performance is great...makes my iPad 3 feel sluggish and is capable enough to do light Photoshop work with. It does get warm with heavy use. Boot times are ridiculous fast. Battery life is on the short side (I get about 4hrs with mixed use)...but if I'm expecting a 6 hour marathon session, I've got a full sized rig for that. I actually like Windows 8. It feels like the OS (specially with the 8.1 update) was made for this machine. Fun facts: -Extend your storage capacity by adding microSD cards (get a Class 10) -Portability, microSD slot, full sized USB 3 port, and screen resolution makes it perfect for managing and looking at my vacation photos on the road -Fits perfectly on an airplane tray - beats taking a laptop through TSA -SmartGlass App lets me stream *some* videos to my XBox 360s -Powerful enough to run Adobe Creative Suite -Writing with the Wacom pen is great but is both under utilized and under-rated -The DisplayPort socket in the machine is exactly the same as my 17 MacBook Pro -If you connect your laptop to your car (I do) - this is the perfect device
