Good tablet overall
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this for my mother and she loves it. It's great for basic Microsoft programs but that's as far as it goes. App Store is limited. Uses Windows 8. It does come pre installed with word, excel, PowerPoint, ect.

Very dissatisfied author here
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I went to Best Buy because my Asus Transformer T301 had been dropped, and they were able to cover it under the GSP (which I recommend to anyone buying a tablet). They approved it for in-store exchange, but didn't carry the Transformers in-store anymore. Everything had switched over to Windows tablets, even the only Asus they had in store. I was highly disappointed at this, but what was I going to do; I had to get a tablet. I debated getting a new computer. I used my Transformer for writing and my home computer for gaming, so it made sense at first. However, I stuck with the idea that the tablet has been great to me so far, and I just needed to continue on with it. So I struck a conversation up with one of the people who were in the store with me, who was interested in getting this particular tablet with the downgraded keyboard (I got the one with actual keys that depress when struck#. When I spoke with her, she mentioned that this might be the best pick for her. Let me add that I've been fed up with Windows for quite some time now. I had Windows 7 on my laptop, which ran into issue after issue. It is now running Ubuntu just fine. Back to the tablet. I putz around with it in store and am not really impressed with it. However, I'm encouraged by the Geek Squad guy and the consumer with whom I spoke with that it was a great tablet. I got it home, and their recommendation couldn't have been farther from the truth. The only thing I'm impressed with is how the keyboard connects to the tablet and the power cord connects to charge it. I'm also impressed with the screen resolution. And that's just about it. When I took it out of the box, I cringed at the blocky design. It has a sharp kick-stand that scratched my coffee table first chance it got. I like that it has the USB port built right into the tablet, but disappointed that the keyboard does not help charge the battery. Furthermore, I have no SD card slot anywhere. Software-wise, I started it up and was immediately bombarded with ads by Microsoft encouraging me to use "their" products, "their" programs, and "their" features, as if they're Apple #and don't get me started on them#. When I cleared everything away, my next order of business was stripping away unnecessary software, and with Windows, you get a lot of it. My biggest disappointment was when I went to go install my own programs or "apps" and it tells me that this is not compatible with my device. That just upset me right there. Also, on an unrelated note, the upgraded keyboard, the one with the actual keys, feels like it was made by Fisher Price. The standard keyboard was even worse. Needless to say, this piece is going back to the store this weekend.

Best Tablet I've Had !!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have tried most tablets OS on the market . I own a MacBook Air and iphone5 . I tried a pad mini ( which I liked ) My natural instinct when having both was to use the iphone5 . I have a Toshiba Excite but only used it to surf the web .The Surface RT gives me a tablet and windows. With the free touch cover offer I picked it up. Still learning the OS.

Returning it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this thinking it would be more of a laptop than just another tablet, the hardware quality and design is awesome, I think the best I have seen including apple. but there art no apps and from what I have read Microsoft is doing kind of the same thing apple did before they woke up and not making it easy for people to write apps for the RT OS. honestly if I could just run firefox and thunderbird on it I would have kept it but I cant so I just put it back in its fancy box and it goes back to best buy in the AM. I am considering buying the PRO but that is kind of a ridiculous amount of cash to spend on a tablet.. probably just get a touchscreen laptop

almost a complete tablet/laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very nearly able to replace my desk top. It is true that we need more app support but I think that will come. Has more business uses than I expected and am using more for both home and work. The inclusion of office has made up for a lot of the lack of some apps.

Better than I was expecting
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wasnt expecting much when I got this tablet, but I must say it was a little better than what I was expecting. Hardwarewise, this table is pretty good, but it still is lacking on the software development side.

slow junk
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.slow, spend the first two weeks installing updates for windows. VERY limited apps. Apps like youtube are just shortcuts to web page and not apps at all. Netflix is almost unusable because its so slow. Cross between laptop and tablet but is no good for either. Stick with apple or android. Returned (thank you best buy) . Would not pay $50 for this. My first gen ipad is much better.

GOOD for Work/NOT for Games
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great tablet if you are going to use mainly for work or school. I bought this tablet as a gift for my 6 year old son and for me as well to play games. But after a night I have to exchange it for an Ipad. The apps in surface are very limited. Each category, there's only less than 100 free apps. Yahoo messenger is not also compatible with RT which i used a lot to talk to my family overseas. Better go with an Android based or apple.

Not even for $199
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Yeah I bought this on Thanksgiving day for $199. The deal was too good not to pass up. I already have an Ipad and i thought I could possibly use this as an alternative to a laptop. A few things bugged me about this tablet. Touch response is not very good. I found myself getting frustrated having to tap on something 4 or 5 times before it would register. Also the browser sucked. Lots of web pages were really slow and some sites had java script errors and wouldn't load. Try ATT.com. I also found it frustrating that because of the size, you have to use it in landscape, yet the windows button is at the bottom. It should be on the right side. Using the charm bar to go to start didn't feel comfortable. The whole tablet didn't feel comfortable ergonomic wise, I was always stretching my hands.Typing was difficult on the too wide tablet ( didn't buy the keyboard cover). Many times i just got frustrated and went back to my very comfortable always working Ipad. I'm not a microsoft basher, I love windows 8.1 on my laptop. I own a windows phone. But they really need to start over from scratch imo. I'm not sure what they were thinking here. All that being said, if you don't own a tablet then for $199 this was a good deal. But there is no way Id pay more for it. Browsing shouldnt be so difficult. MS Office was nice though. But i wouldnt look at this or even the Surface Pro as an alternative to a laptop. If I want to do so,e serious work than I will use a laptop. Tablets are consumption devices. That's where Mr. Balmer got it wrong. Well look at you now!!!!

easy to use. wish it stood up.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm not very computer literate. Most of the apps are easy to use - there are some things that I'm still not very versatile.

Annoying charger
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. They surface is ok, I do mainly use it for studying and watching movies. But I have noticed that when watching movies the sound is not so great even though you turn up the volume all the way. And the thing I find most annoying and irritating is the charger when I plug it in and it doesn't charge, I have to keep moving it around until it lights up and it makes me want to break it!!! O and if you happen to find out how to screen shot directly from the page, let me know!

Good not great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really like the Surface but it was just not powerful enough. The screen could be better. Anyone who got it for 199.00 on Black Friday got a steal
