If you use this tablet for business, remember that you cannot make full use of Excel documents. Otherwise, nice little product.

Expect everything you hate about Windows but dont expect anything you love about Windows. Since it's RT it cant run ANY windows programs except Office (which comes with the device). The side audio jack is on an angle by design so any audio cables I use to hook up to it dont fit perfectly and have static in the background. You still get forced into updating windows every few days. The music app is horrible. You cant search for songs in your local music, if you use the search function while in the Music app it just searches music on Xbox Music (which requires internet and an account). You also cant store music on external storage (SD Card or USB) if you expect to listen to the music. The music app can only play one song at a time from external storage. So everytime a song is over you have to select another song manually. If you have shuffle turned on and click on a song in your list, it will only play that song. You HAVE to click "Play all songs" which doesnt let you choose what song to start with.

    DEAD ON ARRIVAL

My surface rt 32 gb was purchased on black friday, I received it as a Christmas present and let it charge for about 5 hours before attempting to power up the device. The magnetic peice of the chrger was glowing white so I knew the device was charging. I finished with my family parties and came home to my surface rt so excited to start customizing and exploring on my new toy, but to my surprise the tablet did NOT TURN ON! I thought i was doing something wrong so I even took out the manual to make sure the button i was pressing was indeed the power button. It was and still nothing was happening, I am a 23 year old tech savvy female so I should have no trouble turning a tablet on. I held the power button down for a few seconds, NOTHING, I pressed the power button once, NOTHING. I touched the windows symbol on the bottom center of the screen to see if that would turn on my screen and that didn't work. Pressing the windows symbol did cause a vibration to let me know something was working but it still did not light up the screen. I finally came to grips with the fact that the Surface RT tablet I had bought/recieved was a DUD, D.O.A, BUSTED, KAPUTZ, A P.O.S! The next day, following Christmas I called theBest Buy I purchased the Surface RT from to find out if they had any available for exchange; they had none in stock and none available at the district warehouse availble to be shipped neither did they have any available in the surrounding Best Buy stores. The manager I spoke with told me I should flat out return the Surface and go online and purchase another because "that was my ONLY option". Mind you, the Surface was purchased on BLACK FRIDAY for $200, if I were to return it and repurchase it I would have to fork out an additional $150 before taxes and shipping because it is no longer on sale and currently $350! SORRY, I THINK NOT! I bought a BROKEN Surface and she was not even attempting to accomdate me, she wants me to turn around and fork out more money to replace a FAULTY GIFTT, why should I have to pay to fix the situation of a broken gift when A# I have a receipt and it is still in the time frame to exchage the gift and B) Geek Squad Protection Plan was PURCHASED for freak accidents such as this. I could have bought a Surface RT for equal or less money from another LOCAL WEBSITE and met up with the person and at that time turned the device on to ensure it worked but instead my boyfriend and I went to a reputable distributor #Best Buy) and the thing does NOT even work! Well long story short my Surface RT was dead on arrival and best buy was not accomadating and was not successful at redeeming themselves and replacing my tablet to prevent me from writing a bad review and calling corporate. I do not know how the tablet performs and wheteher it stands up tp competitors all I know is what it looks like and that Microsoft/Best Buy sells FAULTY, BROKEN Surface RT tablets.

Right out of the box this device had to do 32 updates, Then it would not install them all correctly. Spent 3 days trying to get started using it. Spent over an hour on the phone with tech support on 3 different occasions. Then I loved it and it worked great. At about 7 days old the screen started going black. It was not in sleep. You would tap the button on top and it would go to a dark purple screen. You could move your arrow around but would get nothing else. Then after a day it came back on while pressing the button. It worked for 2 more days and did the same thing. Took it back to the store. They kept cutting it off and on and it came on again. Took it home for 2 more days and it did it again. Traded it in for another one. Had the same start up trouble. Did most of it myself but still took more than a day to get the second one working even after I now knew all the tricks. Then on day four the screen went black again.

This tablet is ok for me. I have had several in my time and I traded the Toshiba tablet for the surface rt. the surface rt has the pc look that I like so much, however I am turned off by everything else which is just ok to me. It is important to me to have a nice sound quality in a tablet.

    Returned in 3 Hours

I bought one of these yesterday and had returned it within a few hours. It seemed great at first - nice home screen, intuitive, and you can't beat the price. However, when actually trying to search the internet the wheels fall off the cart. Very slow response times, unpredictable touchscreen (sometimes it skips pages, sometimes it doesn't read the touch), frozen screens, and continually losing the internet connection even though I was sitting about 10 feet from a router that was causing no problems on other devices. All in all a FRUSTRATING experience. If you venture into a Best Buy also note that the "push" is on for this product. Sales staff are all very aggressively selling this, especially the onsite Microsoft reps (stay clear)! An off putting experience at BB.

Just a Watered Down Windows 8 tablet.

I bought this due to the great price and perceived value. The Windows RT is a big disappointment. I needed to connect some of my devices to run a firmware upgrade. i.e. Escort Radar detector, Logitech Controller. This is not possible with the Windows 8 RT. I ended up returning the Surface and purchased the new Dell Venue Pro 8 Tablet with full blown Windows 8.1 on Black Friday for $227.00. Also bought the Mini USB to Female USB adapter and was able to run all firmware updates on my devices. The Dell Venue Pro 8 was just released and has been receiving excellent reviews. If you want windows connectivity and functionality and don't want to spend $899.99 on the Surface Pro 2 it's worth your while to take a look at the new Dell Venue Pro 8 tablet.

    Terrible Operating System.

This tablet sounded like a steal with the price and the hardware to boot. However I swiftly returned this item the next day due to the lack of performance. I would think anyone who expects a functioning tablet or has seen an Ipad in action would be appalled by this thing. It can be terrible laggy, unresponsive and just plain freezes. If you want the keyboard you are looking at another 80-100 dollars and may as well just get an ipad 2 that works flawlessly. Heed my warning fellow shoppers, avoid this trash at all costs!

I bought this on black Friday at a reasonable price,or so I thought. After reading reviews . Today is December 5th and already have had to do a hard reset. Do yourself a favor and Google the term surface rt is frozen, you will see what I mean, this is not an isolated incident.Microsoft really! I should know better. I now have a 300.00 paperweight. I hope Best Buy makes good on this as it is being returned in the morning. Really avoid this product unless you like to try and troubleshoot computer problems.

    Apps Not Supported

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this tablet for $199 on Black Friday. So far, I have gotten an "Application not supported" message for every application or executable file that I have tried to run, including my anti-virus software that came with my purchase. Apparently, you can only use the very limited number of applications available in the Microsoft store. Additionally, the tablet is too heavy to be used as an e-reader and challenging to navigate. This thing has been completely useless to me, except quick access to the internet. I am highly considering returning it for a Galaxy tablet if I can find a good deal.
