This is first rung device in the surface tablets.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This tablet is limited in its capabilities and usage. This is a tablet for a child learning about tablets. I was ashamed at the limitations and flexibility of the tablet. I will use this one but change to another brand in the future. I found that the accessories were limited or non existent. I will pass this on to someone else and not take advantage of Black Friday offerings with Best Buy.

Good for a student

It's easy to use.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the surface rt but wish the surface pro was cheaper so I could buy it as the rt does not run exe programs.

too good to be true
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The hinge broke which makes it unusable. We had to purchase a stand off eBay which is a rigged repair. The only option for repair is to send in and get a new one for a mere $220! GREAT! It was purchased for $399! A 13 year old was devastated! He has taken such great care of it. Spent his own money, bought screen protector....all for nothing! Microsoft customer service was a JOKE!

Enjoy this for school
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works well for me at school. It has word and office already on it but the 32g of memory only leaves you with 14g

Difficult learning curve. Poor compatibility.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fast processing with very good features. Little help learning the needlessly obscure interface. This looks like change just for the sake of change; no need to throw customers a new learning curve. Compatibility leaves much to be desired, unless you like doing business at the MicroSoft Store. There is so much about this unit that is very good. MS just makes it difficult to get at.

Great tablet, very pleased with purchase
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought my tablet four days ago with gift cards I got for Christmas and couldnt be happier with the choice I made to try Microsoft's Surface tablet. I bought it knowing full well this was Microsoft's first attempt at a tablet, but I think they did their homework and did some innovative things with the Surface that makes it a very viable product if you need or want to do more on a tablet than surf the internet or check email. I especially like how I can split the screen and have multiple applications running at one time, and the larger screen helps makes this possible as well. I've got no complaints about the touch keyboard you can purchase in addition to the Surface, and the magnetic connection to the Surface is very strong. Screen clarity is perfectly adequate and is very good in my opinion despite notions that the iPad's is much better - I will concede that the iPad's is probably a little bit better but it's hard for the normal eye to tell. I really like the Tiles on the homepage of the tablet which you can customize, and I've made my first dive into the cloud world easily using Microsoft's 'SkyDrive' which is their cloud. The ability to plug in extrenal drives via the USB port is a big plus too. I would absolutely recommend the Surface - I've been very pleasantly satisfied with it.

Great Disappointment
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was not what I expected. I walked out of the store with what I thought was a fully-functional tablet with the Windows 8 operating system. It was actually a tablet designed to run apps, not programs. It was my first experience with Windows 8, and from the hype I was expecting a satisfying experience with the new touch screen features. Some parts of the screen would not enlarge with the "pinch" move, and the items not enlarged were so small that it was almost impossible to touch them accurately so that they would open. The "Right-Click" touch movement (two taps) on tiles did not work at all. I have a "Nook" account and although I downloaded the Nook app, there was no way for me to access my library and open my books to read them. As a pastor was was expecting a tablet like device that I could use for my sermon outlines and manuscripts when I preach. Although I was told it would work like an iPad, there is no way I could use this for presentations. I have returned this and replaced it with an iPad that I should have bought in the first place.

Awful devise. Slow and froze within an hour of use
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The tablet froze within an hour of using it. We had to restart it several times. It was very slow when going on the Internet (and it was definitly not my connection). I did not find it very user friendly but that is probably more because of Windows 8. I bought it because it was on a great sale and it looked cool in the commercials, definitely did not meet my expectations.

Hard to use compared to Android or Apple tablets
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a big fan of Windows, but when it comes to tablet it's not worth it. I rather use a laptop than use RT surface because it's simply hard to use. Android or Apple tablet are so much easier to use as touchscreen and applications for windows SUCK! After two days of use, I was getting headache and I returned it. I would really suggest getting Samsung tablets.

Very good tablet
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a very good tablet. Got mine for $199 on Black Friday. Wish I got at least 2 now. I hate seeing all the fuss about Windows RT not being able to run legacy programs, but guess what, neither does the I-pad run MAC programs. So give that a rest people. I have a full tower system to do all the heavy lifting. But this Surface can do a lot. As far as all the app people complain about, or lack of, seriously 50% of those Android and apple has aren't really worth having. I doubt if the average user has 25 apps on their tablets anyways. I have a BB Playbook, yeah, short app supply also, and a Toshiba Thrive Android system. Yes I know what I mean when I talk about worthless app. Many are just duplicates. And window apps are lacking too. But in a year or two they will have a lot more apps. This tablet is sweet though. I have a nearly 4 year old son who can scroll through the menu and choose whether he wants Temple Run, Sunday Lawn or several other apps he likes. Other than booting it up or shutting it down he can operate it pretty good. That makes me wonder about some of the people who rated 1 star reviews that I read here. Setup isn't great when you have one who been on the shelf a while and it needs a lot of updates. Can be slow and tedious. Also gotta create a MS account. But Apple and Google requires the same. If you don't like it because you are an Apple fan then move back to Apple and enjoy another bite. But it isn't laggie or a lot of the stuff I read in reviews. A lot of that is the users failing to clear their cache or not going to task manager to close 30 programs they tried and didn't close off. If the black Friday price was the every day price then IPad would have a lot to worry about. For me it can replace a laptop, but nothing can replace my desktop. Just the way I like it. But all in all after my rantings This is a very good tablet. And I believe in years to come Surface devices and Window 8 devices will make a lot of gains in the tablet world.
