Customers consistently note the excellent battery life and high-quality keyboard as major strengths of the Surface Book 3. The fast SSD and ease of use are also frequently praised, along with the versatility offered by the tablet mode. However, some customers mention the high price and relatively heavy weight as potential drawbacks. A few users also commented on the placement of the headphone jack and hinge design.

Solid upgrade from a Surface Book 2. Processor is only slightly faster, but you get faster wifi, detach, storage, memory, and GPU.

Great laptop, good size, easy to work with, the price is ok. But you need to pay extra to get the pen, should be included with the laptop.

Upgrade from Book 2

I wasn’t quite sure this would be much of an upgrade from my 13.5” Book 2, but this is surprisingly a great upgrade. I’ve been very happy with my Book 2, but I run it to the max on a daily basis at work, and I needed something with more RAM, so I opted for the 15” Book 3. The difference in processing power has been remarkable, much more than I expected. I should mention that both Book 2 and Book 3 are among the top builds. One thing I’ve noticed is my Book 3 does not get near as hot as my Book 2, which is something that has prevented me from really utilizing the tablet option in the past. I’m thrilled at the reduction of heat on this. One thing I did need to do with my Book 3 was disable the adaptive lighting setting that’s default on the intel processed. You need to download the intel graphics hub to do this, but it’s a must, because otherwise the Book 3 will vary dramatically in lighting was your are using it with a battery, and it’s very distracting. I also am much happier with the 15” than the 13.5,” I feel it’s much easier for me to read. I can also push dual 4 K monitors with this and the dock 2, which is huge for me.
I largely use my Books for office work, running multiple excels, Adobe products, and database software. They are able to handle an amazing work load. My budget allows me any work computer I want, and I keep coming back for the Surface Books because they are the ultimate business laptop.

This is nice to have for an artist. Bigger than the ipad and you can draw almost as good with the slim pen. But draw even lightly has a bit of a ripple effect on the screen. N the light bleed happens fast. Its not put together all that well so if you use use with caution.
When I first got it there was some issues. Right clicking on the desktop n it will refresh the desktop freezing the system for a bit. Pen and touch stopped working after a certain amount of time. Firefox on it edge as well on certain page has a constant refresh having sites boot you from there thinking its a ddos.
Overheats and is very hot to the touch.
BUT...after finding the firmware and cleaning files from the system doing test runs among other pc cleaning tools...ccleaner...it became much better. System doesnt burn as hot. The pen and touch system remains with no issues. Using photoshop and clip studio paint is awesome and looks the same as the cintiq I use when working from my office. It will be a bit of a learning curve especially with the pen only having one side button with no way to change it to ur needs. If you decide to get one i would suggest getting an EKRemote from wacom. I use a spare one for mine and it is awesome. Especially for setting up shortcuts.
And if anyone is wondering. If your pen and touch stops working n you've tried the windows troubleshooting. Update the firmware and turn battery saver off and then restart. Should solve it from there as thats what worked for me.

I just grabbed this Microsoft Surface Book 3 to upgrade from a Surface Pro 3. It is so much faster and all the components being brand new, function perfectly. I love the hybrid factor - being able to switch between a typical laptop setup, tablet mode or even docking and having a traditional work desk environment. It look pretty, too. This is the most powerful laptop I've ever ordered.

Good tech but I feel that for the price, this could absolutely be better. Microsoft is definitely selling the brand to compete with Apple. Definitely a personal choice to go for a computer like this. I do like the tablet mode, but for this price, the surface pen should come with it.

Best laptop I have ever owned! Only thing I wish is that I was offer the opportunity to upgrade to the top tier graphics card, but the one in this one is still decent, and the 32gb's RAM makes it a beast of a machine as is. Good build and feel, quality components and awesome features that you can't get on any other laptop.

The SB 3 is an outstanding product for those who want a top quality PC that can do light gaming, video editing and heavy productivity work as well s content creation. It has the tablet function that detaches providing all sorts of flexibility in your daily use. Surf the web in 3x2 aspect ration with a beautiful screen that performs much better than raw specs of many laptops. The build quality is as good as anything Apple has to offer and is one of the most unique products on the market. In fact it is the only product of its kind that is a laptop/table stand alone. This years upgrade to 10th gen CPUs was long awaited and welcomed. With a full size memory card slot which is great if you are a photographer or take lots of snaps. The key board is excellent to type on for long spells and very comfortable and backlite well. When the screen detaches into tablet mode it is very light and offers solid touch and pen support. If you go back and forth trying to decide how to prioritize your needs this is an excellent solution as it has the flexibility to do it all. Now there may be better solutions for one function or another on a standalone basis but nothing offers the specs, quality and flexibility of this machine.

Prior to this laptop the best machine I'd owned was a Macbook pro. I love the 15 inch size. It is a little bigger in thickness than other laptops. But being able to turn the screen around while it's on my desk is great! If I can upload a photo later I will. I purchased this specifically for the GPU and it's awesome!

Surface Book compromise

I really like this style of 2 in 1, with the tablet fully separating from the keyboard. I use the tablet in tablet mode a large proportion of the time. But the ability to attach it to the keyboard and use it as laptop when necessary is wicked cool. However, this system has a battery in the tablet portion and a second battery in the keyboard portion. I find the compromise off, as the battery in the tablet does not last long enough. I estimate 4 to 6 hours with intermittent use, far less with intensive use. I just can't help criticizing MS for its horrible treatment of tablet mode in Win 11. They seriously erred and need to revisit the code. But this computer works wonderfully with Win 11 installed and is a great choice for those interested in the laptop use case. It is an excellent tablet, if even if MS has substantially killed that function in Win 11... But the software issue is not the computer's fault.

I bought this device for my wife. She is an avid Mac user, but because of Mac incompatibility for software she uses, she needed a PC.
Enter the Surface Book 3.
I bought the 15" version with fairly good specs: i7, 32 GB of RAM, 512 GB SSD, etc. One could argue that it is severely over-powered for her needs, but I am one to buy something once and (hopefully) have it last a long, long time.
She loves the device! She loves the screen quality and loves the keyboard size (although she is getting used to the differences between the SB keyboard and her old keyboard).
She thinks it is a little heavy but it's fairly large at 15".
For her to give it high marks is very cool because she was always talking trash about Windows boxes and this is definitely a Windows box!
Nice job from the Microsoft team on designing a beautiful device!

Had the previous model Surface Book and used it on a daily basis for several years. Never had any issues until the battery in the display decided to swell. Of course it cracked the display. Kind of disappointed it did not come with a pen but the pen from the previous one works fine.

So for getting a super fast (32gb i7) computer for over $3,000, I was expecting to be impressed by the speed; this still gets gummed up with too much standard stuff running (Adobe, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, Excel), and startup of both the machine and applications takes a while. The facial recognition is ok, but compared to an iPhone... well, my iPhone always knows it's me. I do have a bit of buyer's remorse - in hindsight, I should've paid $1,000 on a Surface Pro X and have $2,000 left to replace it twice over as tech improves.
My biggest suggestion for Microsoft is to add the kickstand back to the top, even though it has a keyboard "side" as well - I still want to be able to prop it up when leaving the keyboard behind!
My second suggestion - figure out a way for people to take notes on this while casting video to another screen - I feel like I'm missing out on the tablet part because I wanted it for taking notes in class, not painting.

I bought the Surface Book 3 as a needed a replacement for my older desktop, laptop and I wanted it to be a tablet. I bought the Surface Dock 2 to connect external monitors, keyboard and mouse and with that addition, I know have the best of 3 devices in one (desktop replacement, laptop and tablet). This computer if very fast, 15" screen is great for my eyes to look at as a laptop or tablet. I also use it as a 3rd screen with my setup. The quality of the device is top notch. Keyboard and touch pad feel great. It is a bit on the heavy side +4 lbs, but that's to be expected in a 15 in. device that has batteries in both the keyboard base and the tablet which completely detaches from the keyboard if needed.
I looked at really good alternatives from Lenovo and Dell, but they just didn't do what I wanted, which was a separate tablet.
I highly recommend this if you have high-end needs.
