The fast SSD and ease of use are also frequently praised, along with the versatility offered by the tablet mode. However, some customers mention the high price and relatively heavy weight as potential drawbacks. A few users also commented on the placement of the headphone jack and hinge design.

Awesome fast Laptop, sturdier then the surface pro 4, the only drawback is that it is really expensive compared to other computers with the same specs, This is the second surfacebook that I have owned and probably won't be my last!

I was debating between this or a 12inch tablet to show all of my chord charts and sheet music. I am so glad I chose this in the 15in. It does everything I need and it very powerful. Have had no issues with any lagging after loading all of my music software which does require a lot of space and ram. I love that I can use this as a laptop when working with my music software or on Adobe Photoshop Pro and then switch to tablet mode for my sheet music and use my foot pedal for the page-turner. Also, the camera has been great for any web ex meetings. The clarity is amazing even when I am in a dim-lit room it looks like I am using an overhead conference light. The laptop is very solid, the pen works terrific for taking notes or drawing/editing on Photoshop or Illustrator. Face recognition for logging on works flawlessly.

Laptop works to a t. Great speed and performance along with the laptop being fairly light. With built in game card, this laptop can also support gaming fairly well and an i7 processor makes this thing a beast. 10/10 would recommend.

After much cross-shopping, this is the computer that met the most of my criteria. In-store shopping and buying experience was excellent, I had questions and comparison topics to discuss, and the staff member in the computer section was both knowledgeable and personally helpful. The laptop had to be delivered to my house, but it arrived quickly the next day. All-in-all, the experience was very good and better than I thought it would be. Initially, I thought I would purchase online through a non-bricks-and-mortar company, but things worked out so well in the store that I purchased it then and there. Conclusion: Best Buy is improving. The store layouts are better and more inviting, and my personal experience this time with this staff person was very satisfying. Recommended!

This is my second Microsoft Surface Book. My first was the first generation I got 3.5 years ago. The first generation was incredible product but only lasted 3.5 years because the battery on the tablet failed. Eventually the tablet monitor screen started to peel away from the back of the monitor because the battery was too hot. As a result I tried to find another product that was was as good as the Surface Book 3 but none was available. The detachable tablet was what makes this product unique and why I still like it. Just make sure you don't leave the computer plugged in all the time because the battery will get hot and eventually damage the computer. I did not realize this with my first Microsoft Surface Book.

Great Blend of Laptop and Tablet

I am a member of the Best Buy Tech Insider Program. Reviewers in this invitation-only program are provided products for the purpose of writing honest, unbiased reviews. The Microsoft Surface series has always impressed me by its specs and function but I have never had to opportunity to use one long term. The latest Surface addition, the Surface Book 3, bumps up the spec list compared to its predecessor and should be the ultimate 2 in 1 device. Being more of an evolutionary update, the Surface Book 3 is much like the Book 2 in that is shares the same overall footprint and design. The clam shell and hinge design from the previous versions is still present and works very well. The base is heavy enough that lifting the screen by itself doesn’t lift the base. The screen still operates in a 3:2 aspect ratio which works well in some tasks but hinders a little in others given some tasks just natively work best in 16:9 aspect ratio. I found the screen to be a little too saturated compared to my other UHD laptop screen but it wasn’t harsh to look at in any way and the clarity was still very good. The touch points of keyboard and touchpad are great. They keyboard is very good and one of the best on a laptop/portable device I have used. The travel and spring in each key is responsive and the backlight has three settings. The power adapter has been bumped up slightly from Book 2, but is still proprietary. It comes with a USB-A port built into the power brick which you can use to charge your phone which is great because it could take up one less USB port on the device. You can charge the Surface Book via USB-C (slower), but the screen can only be charged by connecting it to the keyboard base. The headphone jack placement is odd when used with the base as it is located on the top right corner of the screen. Now I realize cabled headphones are ancient and I never used them, I see how this is bad for those who do. Just as an extra note the cameras (Yes plural) look good. The rear is 8MP but doesn’t work well in low light but is usable should you need it. The front is 5MP and works very well for webcam activities and facial recognition via Windows Hello is snappy! I don’t typically game on my portable devices but have done some light gaming recently. The Surface Book 3 has the best specs out of any laptop I have been able to use and because of this, it can handle most gaming in middle to upper settings in 1080P fairly easily. Derail Valley from Steam plays smooth on in 1080p resolution with all other settings maxed out. No real shudder or lag even after gaming for a while. Video editing with Filmora worked very well. Easy handled 1080P Sony MP4 files and playback was smooth while editing. The huge benefit to me is the SD card reader built in. This is not present on my other laptop. When you want to separate the screen from the keyboard, you push a button and it releases the screen which takes about a second. It’s not instantaneous but given the quality of the connection and time needed to disconnect the graphics card, its plenty quick. Using it in tablet only mode is great for drawing or taking it to show someone something but battery life isn’t great without the base. I definitely wish at this price the surface pen was included. Overall, I have been very impressed with the Surface Book 3 but there are a couple drawbacks. The port setup is nice especially with the SD card reader but having the two USB A’s on the same side and only one Type C is a little drawback not to mention the location of the headphone jack. The device performs outstandingly for everyday use and the opportunities it presents with surface accessories is nearly limitless. Microsoft has achieved a great device with the Surface Book series and given the similarities to the Book 2 I think they made the right move upgrading internals more than the design, although, there are a couple questionable functional elements. Specs: (Very Good!) - i7-1065G7 Intel 10th Gen Processor (15 watt, 4 Core) - 32GB 3733Mhz RAM - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q Graphics w/ 6GB of GDDR6 memory (Located in Base) - 512GB SSD Storage - WiFi 6 (AX Compatible) and Bluetooth 5.0 - 15” 3240 x 2160 PixelSense 3:2 Aspect Ratio Screen - 1 x USB 3.1 Type C Port - 2 x USB 3.1 Type A Ports - 1 x SD Card Reader (Bonus!)

This is the 3rd Surface Book that I have purchased for either myself and/or associates in my Company. It is an amazing blend of Laptop and Tablet. I opted for the 15" screen and 32 Gigs of RAM which provides a crystal clear picture and blazing fast speeds. It is durable and rugged enough to take with me when I travel and is also a solid unit to use as my primary computing workhorse while at home or in the office. I shopped around a great deal and this is definitely not the least expensive unit on the market. But I do not buy a new computer every year or so, to me, it is a long term investment.

Love this Surface Book 3. Very powerful and extremely responsive. The 15" Touch Screen is very user friendly and pictures jump out at you. I have been transferring photos from my Phone and the quality is great. The facial recognition is easy sign in. Looking forward to start making some outdoor videos so I will update soon. Just wish I had upgraded the store to 1 TB but nowhere near that yet. Kinda pricey but top of the line if you like Microsoft products.

I purchased this laptop for my college daughter who is a junior. She loves this computer because of its versatility. You can pull off the screen and it's become a tablet that you can write on with the Microsoft pen which works very well. It's smooth. She had a Lenovo laptop which she has never loved. She really loves this laptop. I highly recommend it for a college student. My other daughter has the same laptop who is also in college. I bought it from the Microsoft Store directly instead of Best Buy. Best Buy provided this one to me faster plus I received rewards points.

you might be looking to buy 2 items when in reality you only need this. Nvidia video card makes any video / audio podcast or movie edit a breeze. It's fun to detach the tablet and work on math or journal entry notes for class. It has an SD card slot a regular USB port for old printers that still use the old cables and of course the new USB C port. There is a reason why most of these are sold out at stores. You have to ask yourself do you need all the apps that APPLE has. Microsoft has been a staple in academics and it has programs ready to assist for school. Virtual School

But I could not be happier. It really is true what people say about the keyboard - it's amazing. The speaker quality is also ridiculously good for a laptop. I'm so efficient with my work now because the experience of using this makes me excited to be working. It's so fast, even while I'm running multiple web-based video editing services, as well as a downloaded version of Pinnacle editing software. I can't wait to use the draw feature. I feel like it's the most I've ever spent on anything like this and as much as I was scared I'd feel remorse, I haven't for even a second.

The laptop works great. I can use it with or without the keyboard. The high end graphics card is in the keyboard section so it must be used when running Fusion or Solidworks. The magnetic charger and dock attachment point can be finicky if any fine materials stick to the magnet preventing it from fitting in 100% square. The hinge is high end and the locking mechanism to keep the tablet attached to the keyboard is electronic and warns you if the second video card is currently in use before detaching.

Everything works great for me. The only issue I see is that the hinge isn't very strong. If you have the laptop on your lap (go figure), and you tilt the screen back to a comfortable viewing angle, the screen starts to slowly fall backwards. At table height it isn't so much of an issue, but when it sits a little lower than that and you tilt the screen back to view it better, that's when it starts falling. The hinge just doesn't seem strong enough for the screen weight. If it wasn't for that issue I would give it 5 stars.
