Customers are saying

Customers highly value the Surface Dock 2's USB-C compatibility, ease of use, and multiple ports, frequently citing its ability to support multiple monitors and its convenient size. However, some customers express concerns about the relatively high price and occasional limitations with refresh rates and power delivery to connected devices. The docking functionality is praised by many users.

    Works great, but one gotcha

Used to charge my Surface Go 2, extend monitor, charge and sync Ipod, Ipad. Ethernet port works, but I will rarely use. Gotcha: there is no HDMI port. I had to buy an usb-c to HDMI adapter.

I struggled with spending $260 on this dock but after trying other cheaper docks, I’m sold. It is solidly reliable - both 4K monitors just work, charging never an issue. Would definitely recommend for Surface users.

Surface Dock 2 is pretty good. DOES NOT do well when using BOTH ethernet and having a USB HUB plugged into it with more than 5 devices. Performance issues abound in that scenario. If you keep things, basic it works like a charm.

I had a Surface Dock with my old Surface 4 and knew I wanted to upgrade when I got my Surface 7. Certainly a wise choice. I use two large monitors, a wireless keyboard, and a wireless mouse with my set up. The dock makes my little Surface a powerful work station.

Needed it for my wife's office so she could do work from home. Everything works, but for some reason the surface unit has a hard time displaying to two monitors through the dock if the connection is done with the wire up. Other than that no issues so far.

Works as expected with the MS Surace Pro 7. Previous dock accepted the mini-display port however this dock uses USB-C. Purchased a Display port to USB-C to connect to my monitor.

I bought this so I can use my laptop for work, while traveling, and it's worked out great. The block seems to get pretty hot after a bit, which is concerning, but other than that, it works great to extend your laptop to multiple monitors.

Overall this is a great hub, but occasionally it does drop the signal to the monitors, requiring them to be unplugged from the adapter and reconnected to connect. However, the computer continues to act like the monitors are active even though there is no picture. Once the monitor(s) is disconnected from the hub, the computer does respond like the monitors are no longer connected, and then acknowledges them being reconnected, and they work fine. This has been experienced with 4 different monitors of varying makes, and using different cables, and the issue clearly lies with the hub, and not the monitors or cables. I've purchased two of these, and had the same problem with both at different times.

Does a lot in a small package. Microsoft genuine product. Does not do 2 screens 4K @ 60HZ. It advertises it does. But after 2 docks, I've learned it doesn't have the bandwidth. I had to downsample my second screen to 1440P to run at 60hz. There are more expensive options that can do. But this is good if you just need more screens and willing to run it as is.

I really wanted to like this docking solution, especially with it on sale. I would not pay more than $100 for this if I was going to buy it again. I'll give you one small reason it may not be worth and one big reason. A small issue with it is the inconvenience in not having an HDMI port on the dock. You are forced to buy an adapter. Also, you are limited to 4K at 60hz (well 30hz with most of the cables and adapters I already have). If it had HDMI 2.1, it would be well worth it, but it appears the SB3 can't use the GPU to drive the display so it wouldn't work anyway. The bigger issue is that the keyboard and mouse become erratic at times. I recently found an update on Microsoft's site to upgrade the firmware. Unfortunately my SB3 never found the dock on its own through the Surface app to make it easier on me to update it. After updating the firmware, the keyboard still goes nuts on occasion, where you type a letter and it starts repeating itself forever. Or you paste in a password and it repeats it forever with no way to stop your keyboard. I also noticed with this dock, when I open the default Windows Mail App, my Inbox will constantly scroll down forever with no way to stop it. You have to reboot your laptop to make it work again. I have tried multiple keyboards and experience issues time to time, so it's either the dock or the SB3 causing issues between the both. The only reason I'm sticking with this dock is that the OEM figured out a way to ensure that other docks won't pass through power to the device, forcing me to stay with this solution. If you really need it, that's the only reason you should buy it.

Turn your surface into a desktop

A simple docking station to turn your surface pro 7 into a desktop computer. It doesn’t work in the surface pro4. On my 7 it works great and makes life simple. The powers cord is much more robust and is better than the cord that comes with the Surface.

Highly recommend! Although the product does not have an HDMI port. It was a very easy fix to buy a USB-C to HDMI cord and works perfectly fine. Saves up the two ports on my surface pro 7 and charges at the same time. Great product!

This version seems to be holding up much better than the previous. It works great with Surface laptops, Surface Pro X, and Surface Pros. I do miss the USB-A port but easily solved with an adapter.
