It’s manufactured well but don’t quite get why it wouldn’t have a broader select of ports like HDMI and VGA. My Surface Studio only has USB-c so it is valuable to offer all the other ports.

Kind of finicky devices, the need occasional rebooting as sometimes they will not recognize multiple monitors even though nothing changed with my configuration, second gen is better than first, but not perfect....

Dock works really well and definitely recommend this!

I do design work professionally, and require two additional monitors to my Surface Laptop 3. My monitors and OEM cables are new, and high quality, and my laptop is also new. My old dock failed to run two monitors so I decided to trust the Surface Dock 2. The dock functioned alright at first, sans headphone functionality. After a day, the dock performed a software update, and no longer could run my monitors (not 4k & 60Hz). After a long process of troubleshooting, Microsoft (to date) has no solution, and I returned the dock. Very disappointed. I bought the off brand alternative for $88 and it works just fine.

The goal was to allow the surface connect port to directly connect to the PCIe bus with maximum potential. Sure, supplying 2 4k panels at 60hz is nice but none of the 4 type c ports are lightning. This is sad too since Microsoft addressed the issue being that lightning devices can allow hacking into PCIe ports which I should hope is possible since that's the only way to get that speed. Microsoft is taking a backwards approach on their extremely unique and awesome tech with the surface connect port. Give businesses and consumers the advantage ls using thunderbolt 3, the device costs enough and is heavy enough for whatever internals you need.

I was excited for this dock. I’ll get to the point. I connected everything and all was good. About two weeks into it the two USB-A ports in the back started acting up. My keyboard and mouse which were plugged in the ports started disconnecting. This became so frequent that I went back to plugging them into my monitor. I tried plugging in other peripherals but had the same issue. For something that costs this much, it’s disappointing to see this happen.

If you need more ports for any surface device, this is perfect for you. It’s pricey but worth it. If you need it.

This one has known issues with the 2nd and 3rd monitors blacking out randomly. This was even with a microsoft surface. If youre not using it for that purpose, then its ok.
