Customers are saying

Customers are enthusiastic about the Surface Dock's ease of use, abundant USB ports, and ability to support multiple monitors. Many appreciate its compact size and compatibility with Surface devices, while also finding the improved connectivity and charging capabilities beneficial. However, some customers find the price to be high and the weight a bit cumbersome. A shorter-than-ideal cable length was also a recurring point of feedback.

I plugged it in and everything just works. Here's what I have plugged in. An HDMI monitor (using a DP to HDMI converter), mouse, external HD, external DVD burner, ipod, android phone, gigabit ethernet. It is really nice to just set my surface down and plug in the magnetic connection to have everything come to life. The unit is smaller and heavier than I expected. I prefer the heavy dock because it sits solidly on my desk. I think MS must have taken care of many of the issues that people were reporting because I haven't had any problems.

Convenient way to have both desktop and laptop

For me this was a great way to have both a laptop and a desktop. I bought the Surface Book for portability but still wanted and needed a larger monitor as well as other accessories. The great thing about the Surface Dock is that everything can connect to the Dock and it also acts as the power source for the Surface Book, so when I want take the "laptop" I only have one thing to disconnect ! Plus the Surface Dock has enough USB ports that I can charge and Sinc. my phone without unplugging anything else. Wonderful product !

Works as described, with 3 caveats: (1) monitor and external hard drive come out of standby at times, even when Surface (appears to be) off; (2) must connect devices to surface directly at first use to install drivers; (3) display settings cannot toggle when connecting (so, for example) must reboot at each connection if want icons to be appropriate size. If you have a surface you need to dock, there's not much choice, and it works, but need to reboot at every connection in order to be a workable desktop is sad. (I'm thinking I should've bought a desktop and an iPad.)

Better than the first generation design. Easy to use; dock has solid weight to it so it doesn't move when un/plugging inputs.

This helps in lots of added ports. Unfortunately had to give it back for the weight as I travel a lot and the weight was the factor which gave it 4 stars.

The USB ports, the ethernet port, the audio port and the mini display ports all worked without any problems with a Surface Pro 4. The dock does not take up any ports on the Surface Pro since it only connects to that device through the power plug, which seems rather amazing. Given all the ports available on the dock and the fact that they worked without issues for me, makes the price more reasonable. I have purchased a number of cheaper powered hubs which have had serious issues.

The concept of taking a laptop to work and plugging it into a single port that charges connects to your monitors keyboard mouse Ethernet and audio jack seemed like a dream come true. Sadly this dream turns into more of a nightmare in execution. The setupI have the dock connected to a mouse keyboard Ethernet headphones and two 1920x1080 displays. updated to the latest firmware using the Surface Dock update toolSurface Laptop & Pro 4When I connect it to the Surface laptop the screens will flicker and then go black no input. I have to restart the Surface laptop for it to recognize the screens. Sometimes I have to restart the Surface laptop several times for it to show on the monitors. Other times I have to unplug and replug in the dock for the monitors to work. When using my Surface Pro 4 I have the same screen flickering restart computer and unplug-replug in the dock in order for it to work. The dock is amazing when it works. Sadly this is all too little

My brother in law recommended we get this to go along with our new surface laptop. We had always used a desktop computer for our home business, but when it was time to replace it, he recommended going to a laptop with the docking station. It works perfect!! At home, its hooked to 2 huge Dell monitors, a keyboard, mouse, and the home network. You would never guess its a laptop. There is just 1 plug that goes to the laptop, and it charges the laptop at the same time. Love It!

We have docks like these at work, and I've always admired them. So when the time came to set up a desk at home for my surface, this was a no brainer. Easily attaches two monitors to the surface and provides extra USB ports. A few setting changes on the surface and it's good to go. i like that it only uses the charging port for all of the connections, so not only are you getting an expanded desktop, but you're powering your Surface, all through a single port.

I had never heard of this before. After I purchased a surface book, a fellow soldier told me that he wanted to get one of these, and showed me what it was. I am very happy with the ability to essentially create a desktop environment and still have the portability of a laptop. The extra USB ports work well for my needs, I would however prefer to have an HDMI port, but I have been told that the set up is better the the way it is, so I accept that.
