Great hardware as usual coming from Microsoft… Unfortunately that’s where the greatness ends. An improvement from the first iteration of the Surface Duo, the Duo 2 gets a lot of things right. However with such a low bar to overcome in the first place. The new iteration is still substandard when it comes to software cohesion. Too many errors still, still unpolished but a general step in the right direction. It’s still a niche product for a unique group of people who are fans and can tolerate the misgivings from the Duo 2. For the money, I’d look elsewhere!

Blown Away! Masterpiece compared to the 1st Duo.. disregard bad reviews people don't understand the purpose of the SD2.. this can't be compared to the Fold 3 .. total different type of fish in the Sea.. camera if flawless, battery life if great, 5G is super fast, call quality is mind blowing, touch screen is on point, speakers are loud and clear, bigger screens, glossy black Obsidian 256GB is the real deal..

For those of you upgrading from the Duo 1 or those finding a need for true multitasking capabilities on their mobile device, this is the phone for you. My previous two phones were the Duo 1, and the Note 9; For my line of work the ability to run the calculator app and one note (or anything else really) simultaneously side by side has increase my productivity tenfold. this device is not for everyone but after using this for nearly two months this would have to be my favorite phone/PDA I have ever used and it can only improve from here with software updates and OS upgrade(s.)

Not ready for prime time. I have had the device for about 4 months and over the course of four months I have seen the phone improve, but not enough. The phone has terrible touch issues where gestures work half the time and you will constantly miss finger taps. You have to use the device like it's a surgery and do everything carefully to register your inputs. This is a pretty common occurrence for anyone who isn't a grandma. When you are getting some info from someone and have to type it out quickly is when you will probably throw this device in frustration. Using Gboard is recommended, but it only helps slightly. The problem seems to stem from single taps being misconstrued by the device as double taps, or swipes. It hinders the device to the point where it can become unusable. If you have the patience of a god then this can be your main device. Otherwise, look for it used online, or get it at a steep discount. I didn't pay $1000 for this and can wait to see if they update it enough to be worth to bring it back out of the drawer. Right now everyone is banking on Android 12L to improve the device, but I feel like everyone is going to be disappointed. If and when Android 12L comes out then we'll have to reassess the issues, but until then it's best everyone holds off until that day finally comes.

    Huge improvement over the original

Background: When the Surface Duo was announced, absolutely loved the concept. Booklet style phone for productivity, yes please! When I picked mine up about a year ago, fell in love and ditched my Galaxy Note (which I've had every version of since the Note3) and never looked back. Still haven't looked back. Pros - Camera, responsiveness, UI, 5G and WiFi upgrades over the Duo are all very nice. The camera is a huge improvement which makes me feel comfortable/confident taking photos at events and of the family again. The UI is a lot more refined on this hardware, there isn't nearly as much lag. End of the day, I can talk about all of the improvements all day long but it will only benefit those who used the original Duo. I will just say if you want a dual screen phone that works/operates like a dual screen computer setup, this is for you. It's awesome. Cons - When the Duo 2 was announced, I had already planned on getting it. When that first leaked photo came out showing the new triple camera setup on the back I lost some of my enthusiasm. I get it, there isn't a lot of locations you can put the camera housing, but the bulk of it just was not what I wanted to see. Same with the "notifications" area on the outside spine. Saw the release video from Microsoft and I was exited to see it in action. Living with it for 2 weeks now, not so much. It's more of a gimmick and a novelty than anything useful. Finger print scanner as a part of the power button is, imo, one of the silliest concepts out there. We have a device that is only visible when you open it, which automatically turns on when you do this, with the finger print reader a part of the power button that you press when you open it. End of the day, you unlock then turn off your phone all in one smooth motion. Wanting to make the physical device more compact, I get it, but the engineers behind this (and the QA team) did not use this with the screen lock timeout set to immediate. Conclusion - My cons are personality quirks that I have because I'm a picky individual, but end of the day it's a great device. Huge upgrade over the Duo and I look forward to seeing more changes from them as they continue to improve the design and software. While I wish they would have stuck with the original design on some things, it's still a step in the correct direction.

I have been happy with my Duo. It might not be perfect, but if you are a frequent multitasker with apps, no device does it better. If you like watching videos and mostly consuming media on a single app, the Z Fold will serve you better. If, like me, you are often doing multiple things at once on your phone, the Duo does the best job of any device on the market (side-by-side apps on the Z Fold are too narrow). It is not for everyone, but frequent app switchers will have a great time with this.

Note: It's not a replacement smart phone for most of the typical phone users. But, what it does great with multi-tasking, book reading, responding to emails...there is no competition. Overall a good product that is getting much better, with more frequent software updates. Started off with a number of bugs and glitches, although the December and January software updates have provided huge improvements. Build quality is also second to none.

At the new pricing, approximately $500 lower than launch, this seems to be a decent offering now. Getting used to the new form factor which will take some time to figure out how to best utilize the extra screen space. Really best with two apps VS spanning one app. Battery may be a bit of a concern with heavy use, but it's lasted the whole day for me so far. Averaging 15-17 hrs with 5-6 hours of screen time.

If people think the z fold 3 or z flip 3 are innovative this thing is a powerhouse! 2 separate screens that can you can only understand how productive your life gets until after you have actually used it. Microsoft has done a wonderful job in innovating and I feel like they put life back into phones for me. I've used the flip 3 and fold 3 and Huawei mate x2 and let me tell you this device puts a smile to my newtech wanting aspirations.

A unique concept. The phone is definitely not for everybody, I will agree that you do give up some convenience of having a single screen device. This will change the way you use your phone definitely, but I personally love it and it works great for me. I love using this device.

Surface Duo 2 is a beast. It's a multitasking dream. Must upgrade if you're coming from Duo 1. iPhone lovers stay away. You will just give it 1 star because you don't understand how Android software works. Being able to bring up customer data on one screen and a calculator or spreadsheet on another is freaking awesome! I now can be at my son's soccer game and bang out work emergencies in minutes. I'm not going to talk about battery life people.....it's 2021....get over it. Microsoft fixed everything the original was lacking and the phone is gorgeous. Definitely worth the trade in with best buy. Pick it up....you won't be disappointed.

I been with many phone's. Even tried the first generation duo. Is it better than the original?absolutely. Would i call it flagship class, hell no. Cameras were mediocre. Dual screen functionality suffered same issues as before. You first adopters out there know what mean. I had a case of the spooky charges with it. You ask what is a soooky charge? It's when a phone or device sits on a table unplugged and just decides to chime at you as if you plugged it in, spine displaying battery bar and all. Over and over. I'd love to know how's its getting its power from a barren wooden end table, but those questions should be left to philosophers and scholars or Elan Musk. Anyway good luck to the buyers of this great microsoft device. It was innovative but would be better served if they paid closer detail to size and software and you know... actually knowing what people want.

    Microsoft Surface Duo 2

Surface Duo 2 feels like a finished product in ways that the Surface Duo never did. While it’s recognizable as a follow-up to the original Surface Duo, key refinements have been made that put it above and beyond the original – and that device wasn’t exactly hard to look at. The new obsidian colorway we have in for review is the first thing that comes to mind. It’s a black phone, which means it won’t show dirt or scratches quite as easily, which is good because it’s still using the same glass outer casing as the last device. This does mean that fingerprints are a bit more visible, but we’re able to get rid of the fingerprints easily with a quick wipe, so that’s not a big deal. Microsoft has also addressed one of the most annoying parts of using the original phone – it was just a pain to have to open the device just to check the time or whether you had any missed texts. Luckily, the Surface Duo 2 has displays that curve around the edge of the device and you can quickly tap the unlock button to show the time printed on the side.

After being away from blackberry for any years, I was hoping this weird form factor would help me get back into having a useful phone... That did not happen. Hardware is too weak for the poor software. Gyro sensor sucks. Screens freeze all the time. They display some thi g that is not actually on the screen and the touch will open a different app. Screen went out where the keyboard displays. Hinge creaks and feels like it won't last this year. Cell antennas are pretty weak. Battery sucks.... It was not worth the price or the switch.. Audio is horrible.. The case and pen are not worth the additional price.. Two apps open at once is the best part. I use that daily. That is about all the good...

I owned the Surface Duo 1. When the price on the 2 dropped I decided to go ahead and trade the old phone in. I'm so happy I did. The new phone is much faster and more reliable than the first one. It still has a few glitches. However, I love this phone multitasking over my iPhone 13 Pro. For me, this is my favor phone.

But le tme saythis, this phone is crazy awesome with features and will be a grand slam for the right person. Microsoft has really nailed it withthis.

I like how thin the phone is. I’m ok with no front display. There has many improvements from the first version, better camera, fewer bugs. I don’t like the bump out on the camera, the original duo folded back on itself perfectly.

I absolutely love using this device. It's very flexible with it's different usage modes. Also, the width of the screen in folded mode is SO much better than any other phone I've ever used. We read left to right, not top to bottom. A screen that presents more content in a usable form factor will always be the best. It had some bugs and quirks, but I work around them and assume they'll be fixed soon enough. This was the best phone purchase I've ever made.
