The Surface laptop was the first MSFT laptop I ever used and my wife has used it for a few years. From today's standard the laptop's screen size is somewhat small and it does not have HDMI video output. But it is light and thin and kind of convenient. The power supply failed about one year after our purchase and it might have been caused by an accident. We bought another power and it has been good. The battery or something else inside began to cause the keyboard and mouse pad parts to rise slightly (they still work) and so we switched to a newer laptop for more routine work. But the old Surface laptop still serves us almost everyday. We will wait and see how long it will last :)

Old but still dependable .

My son graduated from High School in June and we felt the best thing to get him was a laptop for attending community college this quarter. He loves Apple products, so we initially bought him a Mac Book Air. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of their desktop OS but it wasnt for me, so we thought he'd love that. He tried out the macbook and hated the OS, describing it as being confusing and like someone flipped everything that was in Windows and did the exact opposite in Mac OS. I told him to go pick out a PC then if that was what he liked more. He gravitated towards the Surface laptop, and ended up getting the burgundy color. I personally have a Surface Pro (5th gen) and love it, but I gotta say that if I were to do it again I'd buy the Surface Laptop. The hardware alone is ridiculous high quality and gorgeous to look at, but on top of that the software is lightning fast and smooth. This thing hasn't bogged down or slowed down once in the last 7 months and he uses it daily. I am very impressed with the hardware/software combo that MS put out on this one. It seems they finally nailed it on getting both right.

I absolutely loved this laptop. But the one thing I was disappointed in is that it arrived with a small damage on the side. Otherwise it is a wonderful laptop the speed is amazing. I am a college student and I am looking forward to doing lots of work on this.

I was so excited for this laptop! It worked great the first 2 weeks but then the screen stopped working. I took it to get 'fixed' but Geek Squad was only able to give me a temporary fix. I took it in 4 times before I finally requested to get a brand new surface laptop. I was told this would fix the problem because it was just a defective computer. Not even 2 weeks with the new computer and the SAME thing happened. The screen was black when I tried to turn it on (although the keyboard would light up).Once the screen gives out, you are not able to access your files. Since I am in school and rely heavily on this computer, this type of problem is a huge deal. I returned the computer because I couldn't handle another incident. I don't recommend this computer, especially if you are planning on using this computer for school/work.

Bought this for my wife and was this close to just keeping it for myself lol. Great laptop.

its a good laptop for the price. It is durable when dropped at a certain distance.

Only 3 weeks old computer, and the screen will NOT turn ON, even though the keyboard has lights and the power cord in connected. I was really excited to get it but realized that it was not worth the expensive price I paid! All my work it stack on this computer, so upsetting!!!

When the first surface pro came out i got it and had it for around 6 years and decided it was time for a new one. I was definitely going for a surface because it had been really reliable. I went and got the surface laptop and in less than a day it crashed and would just show the windows logo and turn back off. I decide to go back to bestbuy and they gave me a new one. When updating the new computer it didn't let me login and ask me to put a recovery key and it would delete all the updates that had been done. Now im worried that it will crash again. Planning to get a new, not sure if i should get a surface again. Being a college students most of my work is done online and i can't afford that my computer crashes and not having other sources to do my work.

Brand new laptop worked perfect for 1.5 month then would not tun on today. The charging light is on and have charged for several hours already but still does not turn on...I am surprising see the reviews that several people have the same experience. This suppose to be a reliable computer. I am really surprised. Even a cheap computer I owned in the past would not die this soon. I have to call Best Buy to see what this can be done . But even if I can get a replacement, it is a hassle to reinstall sw and some data are lost. This is upseting and disappointed at this choice.

I have another cracked screen. A year of warranty with Geek Squad- taken in 4 times for repairs. I havent touched this laptop for 3 months since I have my work one. I open it today and guess what- its cracked again. Geek Squad did not provide reputable replacements any time that this device was submitted for repairs. This was a giant waste of money. You live and you learn but I will never be shopping at Best Buy again.

My jaw hit the floor after I got it home and started setting it up. Turned on the camera and guess what? There is no backside camera. Just one facing the user on the keyboard side of the unit. Let me say this again...YOU CANNOT TAKE PICTURES WITH THIS THING! It's got all kinds of graphics capabilities with the pen and all the great programs for drawing and editing photos...but wait...it can't take a photo. There are reverse-side cameras on every cheap cell phone on Earth. There's a lens on the back side of my give-away-cheap-garbage cell phone. What was Microsoft thinking? Save 99 cents on the cost and leave off the most basic necessity? Unbelievable.

At the day and age where we are moving towards waterproofing devices this is totally a turn back, it catches dust and stains so easily and if you slightly spill something it's gameover. Terrible move by Microsoft.

I bought this and it is going right back. It is beautiful. But. I am so offended by Microsoft's Big Brother attitude as shown in this laptop. You cannot download any app -- including, for example, Chrome!! -- for "safety" reasons -- that is not on their preapproved list. If you want to do that, you need to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro which I found, after considerable effort and 1/2 hour on hold with tech support, impossible. Not worth it and frankly, distasteful. "Safety" or because it's not a Microsoft browser? Shameless.

This was great for about 3 months and then I started having problems with it. Keyboard stoped working, it would not charge, there was black lines going through the screen. Just a bad computer I have to do school on it and I can’t have it if it’s not reliable!!!!!! When it did work though it was a good computer.
