Customers are saying

Customers praise the Surface Laptop Go's ease of use, light weight, and compact size, finding it ideal for portability. Many appreciate the responsive touchscreen and generally positive performance, although some note the fan can be loud at times and the device may get warm. The battery life is also frequently cited as a positive. While storage capacity is a concern for some, others find the price reasonable.

I usually buy Apple products, but I need something in my budget for work. This 8-ram Surface Go has been doing very well for my needs. Its price is a few $100 less than the Apple, which seems just as quiet as the Air. The screen is not as good as the Air's, but you won't know the difference if you don't have them side by side. I did find a clear plastic cover to fit over my Surface Go online. This laptop seems well-built, and I'm pleased with how well it works and how well it's made. I love the color silver; it's very close to the Apple Gold. It's a good pick for the money! There is minimal fan sound. I never heard it like I did on my older HP laptop.

I absolutely love this laptop! Pros include beautiful and sleek design, light weight device, and comfortable keyboard and trackpad. Cons would be lower screen resolution and no backlit keyboard. Battery life isn't the best. I was only reading an e-book online/web browsing for about 3 hours under battery saver mode and it has already gone down below 40%. This laptop is perfect for college students! It gets the job done if you're looking for a laptop suitable for everyday use such as e-mails, web browsing, MS Office, watching movies, etc. If you are switching from a higher spec laptop, you would immediately notice the difference. (I had a Surface Laptop 3) Overall, for the price of this Laptop Go, I'd say it's worth it.

Had this for a couple weeks and really enjoyed the look, feel and performance. Decided to write this review after I had the chance to really test it's performance on a job. This laptop was used to record a chamber choir using 4 channels at 192kHZ of high def quality. My audio interface is a RME 802 that uses the USB port. The file was recording directly to an external SSD via the USB-C port. This thing didn't skip a beat and the CPU usage monitor on my audio software reported excellent and stable performance. I also appreciated that it has a professional look. I got so much done and took up a very small space. So happy to have found the perfect laptop for my needs at this price. Goodbye overpriced MacBook Pro!!

    Great, better with linux

Loving this laptop so far! The 8gb ram+128gb storage is definitely the best value for money, and has more than enough performance for my workload of coding (primarily node.js, not the most demanding workload). Under battery, with heavy use at school alternating between web browsing and coding, I can get around 8 hours out of it; with just browsing and low brightness, it can be stretched to 10. Windows in s mode annoys me; there is a way to switch out, but even so, this laptop just feels *better* running linux. I currently have linux mint installed, with a surface kernel replacing the default one (read more at https://github.com/linux-surface/linux-surface). It's been working fantastic so far, as far as I can tell it even is extending the battery life. One caveat to linux is that neither the camera nor the fingerprint sensor have linux drivers available; while a bit annoying, I haven't been feeling any significant impact as I use my desktop for video calls and such. The speakers are just kind of meh. They can play audio, its not very good, but it's not completely awful; however, I don't particularly care as long as I can enjoy youtube with it, which I can. The screen is very nice. It gets fairly bright, and on low brightness it's black is nigh comparable to OLED (not quite, but almost). The lower resolution isn't a big deal; a 24" 1080p monitor will have about half the pixels per inch and look fairly good, so it goes without saying that it is a great resolution for this tiny thing. Other things of note: The keyboard is great, feels great to type on and use. The trackpad, while small, feels great to use and it has a middle mouse button which I love. One small complaint I have is that for whatever reason fn lock toggles with a quick press of fn rather than fn+esc, which can get annoying quickly, but I'm used to it now. In summary, great little laptop, very light, very good build quality. One of the better budget laptops I've worked with; it feels like I'm using a laptop that's at least $800 (although that feeling fades on a very demanding workload, like blender). Highly recommend. Especially with linux.

had it since March, still works great, i have a 21.5 inch HP 1920x1080 60fps desktop monitor hooked up to this as an extension with a converter through the USB C port and a FIIO sound amplifier hooked to the Sony portable speaker. with all of that it still loads quick, runs well on Youtube videos set at 4K some sites may delay or freeze a bit when goin to them for the first time. it doesn't slow down when having multiple tabs open, but of course it depends on the sites, like for example i have the habit of having multiple tabs of unfinished paused youtube videos and would not buffer lol BUT the only thing that sucks is the battery life. it drains quicker than advertised, it would usually last about less than 5 hours depending on usage, and after some research apparently most laptops last nearly 5 hours as well, so keep in mind to carry the charger with you on the go and buy a portable laptop charger as well

I purchased the Surface Laptop G0 12.4 inch, 128Gb on 8/25/2021 at Best Buy for a CAD and robotics programming course. The laptop was working great, good battery life, the RAM speed and processor were able to handle all the CAD and Robotics software and files without slowing down. Over the course of 3 weeks I’ve downloaded and saved multiple files to the hard drive needed for class. On 9/21/2021, I went to turn on the Surface Pro Go and it would not turn on. I performed all the basic checks to make sure the power cord was working(light on), charged for 4-5 hours but still would not turn on. I then went to the Microsoft website and followed all there recommended methods to try and reset the laptop, again the laptop would not turn on. At this point I decided to take it back to Best Buy to see if the GeekSquad could get the laptop to turn on. Unfortunately, my purchase was past there 15 day return policy, which I find less than satisfactory especially when other Box stores offer up to a 2 year return policy. The GeekSquad employee stated that they didn’t work on many Microsoft Surfaces but did offer to look at it for $85 but couldn’t guarantee they could fix it (that was an easy no thank you). The employee recommended that I contact Microsoft and they would warranty it for up to 1 year. So I follow his recommendations for contact Microsoft’s customer support number. I have to go through the same steps as I mentioned above to come up with the same result, will not turn on. So after 45 minutes, the support agent said that there must be a hardware and that they would have to replace the Surface Laptop Go. At this point the realization that I would lose 3 weeks class work I had stored on my hard drive so I asked the support agent if there was any way they could recovery my data. The agent stated that they could not and all my files would be lost. At this point my frustration is growing, Laptop won’t turn on after 3 weeks and all my class work is gone. I thought that it couldn’t get much worse until the Microsoft Support agent informed me that I would be getting a refurbished Surface Laptop Go to replace my Brand new laptop (less than 30 days old) and that it will take up to 8 business days to receive. So now I have no laptop to take to a computer driven class, I lost all my files and I’m getting a refurbished laptop from a multi billion dollar company. The silver lining in it all is that I learned a couple things today. 1. Never buy a electronic device from Best Buy. 2. Never buy a Microsoft Laptop. 3. Backup daily.

    Almost Microsoft

I have been using my PixelBook Go for a little over a month now. The experience on it has been great, however, when I need to use Microsoft apps, you do not get the full functionality as you would from the apps on a full operating system like Windows. I primarily use my PixelBook Go for work, since most of the work I do for work is online through Chrome. The PixelBook Go has offered the best Chrome experience. I have been using Chrome for everything that I do not even download apps from the Playstore just because they aren't quite on par with the web version of the App. The keyboard and touchpad experience has been the best I have used when comparing to my MBA, and the gesture support along with shortcut keys makes working on the Chromebook enjoyable. However, like I was saying, you do not get the full features through window apps like you would from a PC or MacOS. The experience comes close, but when it comes to having to compress photos in my presentations to make them small enough to send through email, the support just is not there. This is why I started looking for an alternative. I work in field sales. I was looking for a cheaper option to an iPad so I went with Chromebook. Since the Chromebook offers 98% of the options I need to finish my work, I wanted a device that would full fill the 100% I need, so I looked at the Surface Laptop Go. I decided to go with the 699 version since it starts with 8GB of ram and faster storage over the i3 variant. The device itself is fast enough for the day to day tasks, but the experience in my opinion just has not been living up to the Chromebook. The Animations on the Surface Go are not as crisp, the gesture support when using Chrome is of course not there, and it just feels like I have to go through two more hoops to get my work completed. The Keyboard is not backlit. The typing is not as mushy as the keys on Chromebook which is what I prefer, also the keyboard layout is a little more cramped on the Surface Go compared to the PixelBook. The PixelBook display is brighter than the Surface Go and bigger. The interface on the Chromebook is cleaner and the use of the touchpad and keyboard shortcuts makes working on the Chromebook a unique experience. The PixelBook Go version I use is the 899 variant, which comes with an 8th gen i5 and 128 storage, however, I acted on an Openbox and was able to buy it for a little over $200 in savings, which is close to what I paid for the Surface Laptop Go. The Build quality you will find on the PixelBook Go is again cleaner and feels more premium when holding and looking at when compared to the Surface Go, the use of plastic on the Surface Go is more noticeable than it is on the Pixelbook Go. After reading this review, I guess you can already tell that I am not going to keep the Surface Go and will be retaining my PixelBook Go and continue to live with the 98% coverage that the device offers in reference to my workflow. Who I would recommend the Surface Go for, is grammar students, this is a nice first computer for someone who needs it for typing reports, watching social media, and surfing the net. The Surface Go is light enough to where you will forget it's in your bag. The device also offers dock support which will offer someone flexibility when using it on external monitors.

I recently purchased this computer, and I love it. My previous computer was a very large HP laptop, and it was too difficult to transport. I was looking into buying a Macbook, but then I came across this. As a college student, having a good computer is very important. This computer does everything that I need it to and more. It is the perfect college student laptop. The only downfall is the screen not being very large, but that is the only downfall to this computer. The touch screen is very nice and it works very well. If you are in the market for a cheaper laptop, purchase this because you will not be disappointed.
