Customers are saying

Customers praise the Surface Laptop Go's ease of use, light weight, and compact size, finding it ideal for portability. Many appreciate the responsive touchscreen and generally positive performance, although some note the fan can be loud at times and the device may get warm. The battery life is also frequently cited as a positive. While storage capacity is a concern for some, others find the price reasonable.

The Surface Laptop Go I felt was a step in the right direction. I could live without the nonilluminated keyboard, I could even handle the smaller keyboard buttons. However, what I could not stand was the display brightness. Now before buying the device I did watch as many reviews as I could. Each review did point out the lack of luster display. The reason I still went with the device was that I was looking for a budget work device. The device itself was able to get through my day to day without any hiccups. The device also displayed on the full screen using the USB type C with no issues to get my bigger projects done.

When this laptop is charging or is really pushed, the fan ramps up which is annoying and can be a dealbreaker. The solution is to lower Maximum Processor State to 99%: Power Options > Edit Plan Settings > Change Plan Settings > Processor Power Management > Maximum Processor State Oh, but your go doesn't have that option because Microsoft messed with the operation system. You need to run the .reg file here to enable that adjustment: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/107967-add-remove-maximum-processor-state-power-options-windows.html Another negative is the default Windows S mode. I don't know anybody who uses this. Microsoft makes you create an account to turn this off. Please. It wasn't hard for me to switch out of it but I can't imagine less tech-savvy people not getting headaches trying to install a browser like Chrome or Firefox or other third-party software. The third complaint I have is the hinge. It's constructed well but the screen doesn't fold back far enough when I need it to. It opens up somewhere between 135-150 degrees (just a guess) but not 180 degrees. There have already been a few times during which I had to tilt my laptop to see the screen well. I would say this wouldn't apply to most of you. Those are the issues I have but otherwise it's a good laptop that I can see myself keeping due to price. The keyboard is lovely! I like how compact it is and how nice the keys are to type on. The screen, although lower resolution than what I prefer, has very good brightness and color. The exterior is elegant and the laptop comes in very nice color choices. If you're not willing to spend time tinkering with the laptop, you may want to invest in another computer.

    Not Great

Can't say I can recommend this thing. I ordered one for a few classes and I must say, the design is nice but it's lacking in quite a few areas. 1.) Why in the world does any Surface device ship with Windows in S mode? It's like Apple shipping a Macbook with iOS. Makes 0 sense, though iOS might actually be more capable these days. 2,) Why are backlit keys not present on this device? There are $200 chromebooks with backlit keys. You could get an older macbook air with backlit keys for this same price. No excuses. 3). Processor and battery life leave alot to be desired compared to the competition. 4). Plastic everywhere. Again, you can buy all-aluminum chromebooks for much cheaper. Microsoft has kept this similar Laptop design for years so production should be cheap enough to include aluminum. 5). The screen auto-dimming in different lighting situations is not very smooth and messes with the eyes. It's like adjusting a lamp from the 90s with only 3 brightness settings. Screen jumps from low to high / high to low in a very janky way. 6.) Trackpad is NOT great, but better than the plastic garbage on most Windows laptops. The top of it doesn't click at all and becomes noticeably easier to press the further down you travel. At the end of the day, I say go for a 3rd party device with beefier specs. It my be more plastic garbage but at least you might get backlit keys. Spend a few more bucks and get an M1 Macbook Air which will run circles around this thing. C'mon Microsoft, take control of your product and stop doing the bare minimum. Invest in processors, battery technology, keyboards, trackpads, or something!

Perfect work and college laptop with only 1 issue

The title says it all that this thin and light Microsoft laptop is perfect with only 1 problem. That one problem which to many it can be big is the keyboards have no backlight. I don't know why it was so hard for Microsoft not to put backlights because at night time many users like to use their laptops in the dark and when it does not have the backlight we can't see the keys. This is the reason why instead of 5 stars I gave it a 4. I have seen cheaper non Microsoft Surface laptops have backlight keys so there is no excuse for Microsoft not to include this feature.

I bought it because I run a business and my old surface pro decided to die one day. I picked it up at my local store and overall construction is fine and I like the finger print scanner but its loud while its operating. The fan seems to always be on when just running google chrome. Im getting some screen tearing and its just an overall average expeirence.

Love this laptop. I bought it because I was looking for a personal use laptop to listen to podcasts, watch webinars and do an occasional zoom meeting without a lot of hassle and quick! This one fits the bill! I was drawn to it initially because of the color but also because I have a Microsoft Surface Pro provided by my employer for work tasks. No complaints other than I wish it held a full charge a bit longer.
