This was a greta purchase. I was looking for a small laptop and and this was perfect.

This laptop's build quality is the best you will ever get at the 600 (on-sale) price point. The screen isn't as bad as most people make it out to be. The keyboard is great. The touchpad, despite not being glass, feels like a glass trackpad with how smooth and responsive it is. The aluminum palm rest and top lid feels nice, and the plastic bottom isn't too bad. The magnetic charger is great. Now there's a frustrating and disappointing reason I returned this device-- the battery life. It is laughably short when using Zoom. After an hour and a half class, the battery is down to 60. I just think that it is disappointing. In addition, there is this annoying artifact when scrolling. It looks like it's lagging, or otherwise stuttering when scrolling. This is due to a feature of the graphics card called "Panel Self Refresh" intended to save battery life by dynamically altering the refresh rate. It is poorly implemented on surface Laptop go's, as evident with other reviews on reddit and online forums. One can turn this off by downloading the Intel Graphics Command Center from the Microsoft store, going to the System option on the left side, then clicking power tab. You can disable panel self-refresh here. There is also another feature called display power savings that adjusts the brightness, and this machine does it terribly also, resulting in a stuttery change rather than a gradual change. Overall, the hardware is nice, but the battery and software makes this a no go. I returned it and got my money back happily.

Awesome lightweight laptop. It is very convenient for basic usage. Wish it was compatible with a surface pen.

This would be the perfect little laptop except for 2 reasons. At this price ($700) I would have expected backlit keys and and HD screen. Microsoft's other laptops/tablets all have HD screens (or better) and backlit keys. Even the cheaper Surface Go 2 has an HD screen and backlit keys. Other than that, the build quality is excellent and the keyboard is one of the best I've every typed on. Perfect size and weight I just hope with it's future replacement they consider adding backlit keys and an HD screen. Otherwise it really is a great little laptop.
