It has a great feel to it and it works well. It’s a bit weighted which is very good for me because it helps when taking notes or drawing or using it to navigate my surface in general.

    Form factor sells it

I've been using an Apple Pencil for close to two years nearly daily for notes -- while I prefer that experience for writing, it simply doesn't work with the MS ecosystem. For the MS ecosystem, I tried both the MS Surface Pen and Wacom's Bamboo offering. Simply, I found the Surface Pen to be passable in meetings although it's really the form factor that sells it. The weight and size I prefer to the Apple pencil but the magnet built in for connecting to the Surface is the greatest convenience. As a business traveler, it stays clipped on in my bag so I don't have to fumble for it on flights. That said, bringing the clip back (or at least making one purchasable) would be ideal too.

Previously had a 1st generation Surface Pen that had a clip. Without it, it doesn't stick to older Surfaces easily because the magnet isn't as strong. Otherwise, this is a must have for a Surface or Surface Book. Has a great feels when writing or drawing.

Does an amazing job on the surface laptop 2, some of the buttons can be a bit wonky though. Its not as good as the Apple Pencil, but its similar to a bamboo pen.

Love this pen more than I expected. It is much better than Samsung's tab s6 in two respects. First it is much thicker and easier to hold. Second, no buttons so there aren't any accidently touches that cause unwanted features to pop-up. Being able to turn the pen upside down and just erase your mistakes is amazing. Also, there is absolutely no visible lag when taking notes (I am not an artist so I can't speak to drawing). In short, this is great pen that meets all my needs. Finally, save yourself some money and buy an openbox - excellent condition pen.

    worth the upgrade

I've been using the same surface pen for awhile... It was worth spending some money on the upgrade, that's about all I can say, that and that if you need a pen and own a surface, the surface pens are the best pens to buy, I own a pen that works on surface along with other devices and it doesn't come close to the quality for writing. I wish it was rechargeable or more likely I wish they would have come out with a case for the slim pen for the pro 7 as that one is better but not better enough without the keyboard case to get that one instead. Also it takes an AAAA battery so make sure to buy one or two spares of those, the battery lasted me about 4 to 6 months in the old pen and I don't expect much different from this one.

Taking notes and annotating PDFs with the $100 Surface Pen (yes it’s a freaking ADDITIONAL $100) is just as good as writing with the Apple Pencil. In my opinion, the Apple Pencil works smoother with less latency but the difference is not that great and you do get used to it. The great thing about the Surface Pen is that it has a replaceable battery that will last you up to a year so you don’t have to awkwardly charge it. Being able to magnetically attach to the side of the Surface Go is nice too. Also, the “eraser” feature comes in very handy as it feels natural to just flip the pen over and “erase” your mistakes.
