This product is a bad Microsoft joke. I thought I was done with the iPad for work and this offered a perfect hybrid experience. The keyboard is the best feature and fooled me at the store. To come to the point, email simply doesn't work as you can't download any attachments from microsofts own Outlook. To put a finer point on it, Microsoft attachments won't download. Checking the net for a solution yields the following response - Microsoft knows about it but doesn't consider a priority and there is no fix. On a smaller scale the hybrid part is not useful either as no cd I have appears compatible with the OS, so the other supposed appeal of this over a tablet doesn't work either. It's a fabulously expensive door stop.

I purchased the Surface Pro about a week ago and could not be more pleased. This tablet truly has all of the power, speed, and versatility of a laptop. It is slightly heavier than an iPad, but the difference is minimal. Originally I purchased the Surface RT, but having the ability to install applications along with the processing power of the Intel i5 caused me to reconsider and go with the Surface Pro. There is a slight learning curve with Windows 8, but it does not take long to figure things out. It’s always nice to have options, and with the Surface Pro you can choose from three different views; desktop mode, apps view, and the Windows 8 start screen with the live panels. The desktop mode gives you the familiar look of previous Windows versions, and the Apps view gives a similar look to that of the iPad. Another plus is the ability to have multiple displays by connecting to an external monitor using the mini-display port adapter. Storage space is more than adequate with 128 GB (89 GB of free space after allowing for the system software), and the mini-SDXC slot allows for up to an additional 64 GB of storage. Also provided is 7 GB of free storage on Skydrive. The on-screen keyboard works well when on the go, but it is nice to be able to connect a full-sized keyboard and mouse. The only cons would be the sound and the battery life. The speakers on the unit are on the side but sound fine. However, if using headphones the volume level is low, so if you like to listen to music loud you might be disappointed. The battery life is that typical of a laptop so expect approximately 4-5 hours on average, and the unit does get a little warm when in use. The only other comment would be with regards to the App store. The number of available apps is nowhere close to what is available in Apple’s store. A lot of the major apps such as Facebook, Twitter and others are there, but there are many that are not present. I’m sure over time the selection will grow, but for now don’t expect a huge selection. Overall I am very happy with and highly recommend the product. If you are looking for a true tablet/laptop combo then check out the Surface Pro.
