    Meet George Jetson

Have had since mid February. I am very much into the latest and the greatest technology toys; I'm in the industry and I seem to buy and sell my big boy toys all the time.. Saw this at the Microsoft Store in Times Square when it came out and said to my 18 year old son with me at the time - that's sort of nice, but not sure its for me. Then I had a "what the heck" moment came and I bought one. My son is going to college in September - he wants one of these rather than the requisite MacBook.... I have found myself up at 3am thinking to myself "and I can do this" and "I can do that". I run Quicken, use as a remote control for my audio systems, run my ACT contact software, use the OneNote SW every day #used to go through a physical notebook a week to detail my client visits#. I listen to JRiver Media Player when I'm reading my kindle books at night. I'm going on a trip to San Fran tomorrow, I'm learning how to use Dreamweaver and can run Dreamweaver on this computer, no problem. I hook this baby up to my 24" monitor, plug one of my mice into the HDMI port and use as my office desktop. Bought a 64gb micro SD card and use as my D drive to back up data. It's so quick, so snappy just so nice and comfortable to use. Did I mention it's addicting? Be prepared to go whole hog if you do end up with the Surface Pro. ie 64gb micro SD, type cover, aftermarket warranty #I ended up with Microsoft Complete, 2 year warranty#, nice case, back and side protectors #I hate scratches#, etc. I bought an inexpensive mini displayport to HDMI cable as well. Graphics are great on external monitor. I stay in lots of hotels for business, most of the TV's have HDMI ports so I can connect to Surface Pro to the TV and watch Netflix and check my finance sites just like I'm home. I feel like this is the future. Not sure how else to characterize the Surface pro experience but it's a beautiful little machine. Sold a beautiful top of the line Asus Ultrabook to help fund this purchase, no looking back for me. Moved my desktop computer to the living room, now I use that one exclusively as a music server. Come to think of it, I need to get off this thing now and go to sleep. Well maybe after I check out one more site.....

    Handwriting support best there is

I bought a first-generation Windows XP tablet in 2002 that worked really well with a stylus and writing: I take extensive notes and do frequent trainings where using electronic "whiteboards" on a computer is an advantage as the documents I create can be shared immediately. When that machine wimped out 4 years ago, I started searching for its replacement from Windows Vista/7, iPad #1/2/3 gen#, Android ... nothing supported the combination of handwriting, ease of stylus use, speed and ability to easily share the created documents until now. Windows 8 really shines in Surface Pro as does Office 2013. Both the OS and the application take advantage of the processing power and additional memory over the Surface RT. Taking notes in OneNote is a breeze -- no lag or choppiness in capturing what I write and it's great having a full Outlook client available again. I'll be interested to see how weight plays over time -- but compared to my 2002 hybrid or the brick of an "elite" 2012 laptop my company gives me, this thing is light. I also gave it 4 for ease of use for Windows 8 -- while I have been using Windows 8 for over a year and it is definitely a much better experience on a touch device, it still lacks ease when compared to iOS/Android tablets. As for native Windows apps compared to iOS -- there are only 2 apps I regularly use on iOS that are not on Windows 8 #History Channel Civil War and Hay Day#; if it weren't for those, my iPad 3 would be retired to the kids.

    Microsoft got it right

As much as I criticize Microsoft I will give credit where credit is due. This is a marvelous little laptop. No matter what they call it, it is a full blown laptop. The only drawbacks are battery time and storage limitation of 128gB. A micro SD helps alleviate some of the memory problem, but it isn't as fast as the solid state drive in the Pro. It is also my first stylus and my first Windows 8 experiences. I have become accustomed to both, and I like them. I have handled a few of the "Tablets", and believe me, this is better. It is a real computer that can run real applications like photo processing software, CAD, word processors and spreadsheets. The stylus is becoming my "weapon of choice" for this stuff. I love it. Hope I don't lose it. Anyway, Best Buy has a great deal on this. The Pro 2 is a little rich for my blood, but this one costs no more than an iPad, and an iPad is nothing compared to this Surface Pro. Get the Type Cover 2. You really need it for running some applications. Excellent quality.

I stood in line for an hour and a half to get this unit and must say that it was time well spent. I have owned and loved computers from the release of the first home computers by Tandy and Apple and never dreamed to see them come this far. This is a true computer in disguise as a Tabet. You can load PC programs (not just apps) into it and they run like a desktop. One of my favorite benchmark programs to load and run to test what a computer has is the online virtual world program called Second Life. Obviously it will not run on tablets and takes at least an I5 or I7 to run on a desktop. Well to my delight, it ran fast and smoothly on this PC. That is an excellent sign as to the power, speed, and versatility of this new Tablet/PC. I heard a critic say, "If you want a tablet this will not be for you and if you want a PC this will not be for you." Well let me say, that critic is wrong. If you want a Tablet it will be perfect. If you want an amazingly powerful portable PC, it will be perfect. I love PCs and I love APPLES, but honestly, this moves Microsoft back into the lead. With a 30-day return policy, you cannot go wrong! I am glad I stood in that line!

I don't usually write reviews, but, I've seen so much negative information about the Surface Pro tablet, I felt compelled to put my two cents in. I waited in line over an hour to get this device, and I'm glad I did. It does what no other tablet on the market does...run PhotoShop, and Solid Works (CADD System#. And, it runs them faster than my desktop PC. This thing screams! 7 seconds after touching the power button, it's up. That's not resumed from sleep mode, that's a clean bootup. The screen looks great at any angle. I love the speed of the USB3, XCSD card, and WiFi #n). Everyone in the business of editing photos or videos needs to try this device. It feels very solid and robust. It gets a little warm, but, no more so than a laptop with an i5 processor. I can't believe they managed to cram an i5 into a tablet this small. This isn't your kids iPad, or Android device, this is a full blown PC for serious work, and the first tablet device I've seen that can really do serious work. It's a little expensive, but, well worth it for me. In short, I think this is a revolutionary device, and I'm glad I got one before they sold out. I've ragged on Microsft alot in the past, so, I must give them credit when it's deserved. Good Job Microsoft !, you have finally made a device worth buying.

    Great option for laptop/tablet hybrid!

I had been struggling with the decision to purchase the Surface and had been holding out since I thought I might want a regular laptop instead. However when the Surface Pro went on sale, I was convinced by a sales clerk that the features I was looking for in a laptop would cost me twice as much for almost the same specs! This is a great option for someone who needs a portable laptop to do all the normal things you would do on a tablet with the option to do some "heavier" stuff like documentation. I installed MS Office on my Surface and it's now a great laptop that gets things done! I highly recommend getting a keyboard if you are going to use this as a laptop #I chose the Type Cover#.

I purchased the 128GB Pro on the day of release and haven't had buyer's remorse for one minute. At work I multitask with the surface and my laptop. When traveling I use the Pro, and with careful planning the Pro did not die on me. The battery life is not great, if you're a power user who works away from outlets often you will be disappointed with the battery life, but I have seen the 4.5 hour to 5.5 hour mark or more depending on how much processing I have to do. I do run very large and complex Excel programs (30+ MB) and the Pro can handle it. I rated the Value for Price a 4 because I believe a data plan with the Surface would have been worth the price. Overall it has been perfect for my needs.

I researched the Surface Pro for about 6 months prior to its release. I pre-ordered, then cancelled it due to so-so reviews, thinking maybe I could get by with my laptop until a second version came up. My laptop died and I made the plunge 3 weeks ago. I absolutely love this tablet/laptop, whatever you want to call it. I travel every day to different clients, move my Surface Pro many times in a day, whether I use it as a tablet with the stylus or with the touch keyboard. It truly is a one machine for everything. I'm running Office 365 on it, Autodesk Inventor, my 3D printer, Adobe Premiere Pro (video editing). Everything runs great, and it runs much faster than my Asus i7 laptop. People complain about battery life, but as long as I get back to an area once a day to plug it in for a bit, it's fine all day. Stylus works great. I am fearful of losing it when it's in the magnetic holder.

i usually dont write reviews for product. but this one product i bought just needs to be written about. this is an amazing computer that i have ever owned. i have had a ipad and android tablet. but this is not even close to being a tablet. it has the convience of a tablet but dont get me wrong it has all the power of a laptop. the one thing i hate about is the battery and it is basically only because i never want to get off my computer now. i love how i had the ability to install my norton internet security and microsoft office on a tablet size computer. this will be so mobile and so helpfully becuase i am not home most of the time. i will be using this everywhere i go now and since i started learning html recently it will be great to use it for learning that. I THINK EVERYONE SHOULD GO BUY THIS. little tip before im done. backup the partition and delete the recovery partition and also change where your apps are installed. i would recommend installing all apps to a sdcard since then you will have more room for actualy programs on the ssd hard drive.

I wanted to wait to write the review after I used the Surface Pro for about 3 weeks. The Surface Pro has fast speed and decent battery life (I’m getting 6 hours with heavy use). Easy to use on a plane or anywhere for that matter. I loaded all the office products including Visio and Project and still had room to spare. Yes, you’ll need to get the sd card for extra space and use the cloud. My work is very media intensive, so I bought a 1tb portable hard drive and store all those types of files and Adobe Creative Suite software on it as well. Windows 8 is a little quirky in the way it handles things between the desktop and the metro tiles. After a few youtube videos and a chat with Microsoft, I was good to go. I bought the wedge mouse from Microsoft as well because I like the freedom of a separate mouse from the keyboard and it is Bluetooth so it keeps the one USB port free. Shortcomings for me – no case and only one USB port.

If you have never owned a tablet, this device will be the next step in portability, one cannot compare this to any device out in the market, including an IPad or a MacBook Air(other ultrabooks). I own both and find the ST Pro a very interesting device. I have a powerful desktop(Win 7) that I do my development on. I am still not sure where the ST Pro will fit in my lifestyle. I use the MBA when I am out of the house. That being said, I will give it more time. Pros: Full feature OS in tablet form. I like Win 8. Skydrive and Office 365 work seamlessly. Cons: Battery life. This will be resolved in the future with expansive keyboard/battery that MS will release soon. Get the MS Wedge BT Mouse if you plan on using this more effectively with a monitor. Software that I use: Adobe LiveCycle Visual Studio 2012 Office 365 One Note SimCity

    Finally a tablet for business!

I've had this tablet for about 2 months now. Since then, I've taken this tablet on a business trip, I use it at every meeting, I take it out to my son's basketball practice, etc. I no longer use my paper notebook because I use Onenote now. This is what I've been wanting ever since I bought my wife the Ipad. She enjoys her Ipad, but it just doesn't have the productivity I needed which the Surface pro now provides. In particular, there are many cool Android apps for calender and emails, but nothing really compares to Outlook. I am also thankful that this tablet has a USB. So easy to hook my thumb drive to exchange files as well as hook an external DVD player. I am also grateful that I have a real web browser that can play flash videos which iPads and even Android have problems with. However, it is not a perfect tablet yet... as the battery life needs work and many of the apps need to be optimized for touch (the text in many older programs are too small to see). I also think that they can better design a method for it to sit on my lap while I type. A docking station would also be nice. Obviously, I wish the cost was lower too, however, for me this tablet was worth the price. I can't wait for Surface 2...

    Best tablet

I am a tablet frenzy. I have androids, IOS, webOS tablets. Then I bought this tablet. And it beats all the above tablets. As a matter of fact I should not compare Surface Pro with other tablets in the market because they don't provide full operating system but Surface pro has full operating system. I am writing this review on Surface pro and it is very easy to write on it. Pro is fluid, fast with brilliant display. I am also happy with the battery as well considering it has i5 processor. HD display is crisp. Kick stand provides excellent viewing angles. Run full adobe flash. Adobe has stopped supporting flash in tablets but since pro has full OS thus you can play flash material in desktop mode. On screen keyboard has very nice sound and extremely easy to type. I have put aside my other tablets since I got this one. Now other tablets looks hassle to use or maybe use as toys. Windows 8 and Surface pro is the best combination at this moment in the tablet in my opinion. I have no regret buying this.

My intention here is not to bash Apple. I have bought and still use iPads. I love the idea of tablets and was an early proponent. I travel for work, so anything that boots fasts, is light and relatively small compared to a laptop has an appeal for me. I bought the iPad 1 on the day it was released. Since then I have bought the iPad 2, an iPad4, and the Mini. I have sold the 1, the 2, and the mini. I still have the 4 and keep it in my car. It has 4G so the GPS function and constant connectivity works well there. That is all I use the iPad for now. The Surface Pro does everything else now. The surface Pro is such a wonderful machine. It's way more powerful than other tablets. I haven't hardly touched my laptop since buying this.

Amazing, but the finish is not very durable

I love my surface pro- after using for roughly 6 weeks, I have the following observations. 1. It will run anything- Adobe, Office suite, specialized stats software, it has run everything I have thrown at it. 2. the screen is amazingly sharp and clear 3. touch sensitivity is great, and the hand writing recognition with the stylus is amazing. This is the perfect tool for digital note taking. In this aspect it is far superior to my Ipad. 4 Battery life is reasonable- wont last all day, but will make it through a plane flight. MY ONE BIG PROBLEM- This thing is really quite fragile compared to my other devices (I pad, MacBook Pro, Dell Laptop)- the finish began flaking off on the back edges within a couple of weeks of purchase, and the back has become rather scratched up, just from normal use in tablet position- (taking notes on the desk with a stylus). I bumped it on a door frame while carrying it in my hand and it dented the corner enough to push the liner between the screen and the body up a little bit. Long story short- It is advertised as durable- It is not (at least in terms of aesthetics) GET A CASE ASAP... and a skin for the back, and bumpers for the side ;P Other than that- or even despite that... In love.

I got tired of packing my 6.5 lb laptop round and was looking at small laptops and ultrabooks to replace it. I needed external I/O for HDD, wireless mouse and an Ethernet connection so tablets that lock you into being connected and are unable to run Windows applications were not an option. The Surface Pro drew my attention and finally won me over. One USB 3.0 and M/SD port was not enough given my requirements. Some USB 3.0 devices solved that problem. A USB 3.0 4-port hub and GB Ethernet adapter got me connected fast and gives me additional ports for other devices. I simultaneously run: wireless mouse, Ethernet adapter and HDD or Flash drives with no degradation in speed. Also watch homemade videos from external HD or flash drive. This system is fast! My desktop and old laptop are both I7 processors with max' memory but Surface Pro is faster! My Win7 software has all been transferred now so I can dump my old laptop a lot sooner than intended! This was the right choice for me!

So I have been holding off getting a tablet because I have a Galaxy Note and since I work as a software engineer / architect I am not ever far from my laptop. And nothing about the Ipad or other tablets really captured my attention - yes they are cool - but that's it. If I was going to get a tablet it needed to be a tool that I could use to be better at my job and generally more organized. Then I watched Microsoft's approach into this arena in-fact as a software engineer that works with a LOT of Microsofts products I had already been forced to re-educate myself to for a new era of user interface design. Windows 8 was never really taken seriously but that's because there was never really a product that 'fit' such a large change in the windows design... until now! Yes the Surface PRO is without a doubt a product that Microsoft should be proud of.. yes, it's not cheap.. but it is worth it's value. It is a beast, it handles desktop application as well, if not better than my laptop. If you want a tool to help you this is it. My only advice is to make sure you spend the additional money on the 128gb model... since it's really built for people who need to take everything with them wherever they go/
