Super happy with this purchase. Have an iPad but needed something that I could use remotely to log into a remote computer and use a mouse. This is perfect for that and surpassed my expectations with regard to many other aspects such as speed, screen resolution, and general ease of use. Much more productive with this versus the iPad. Only complaint is that Battery life is so so, but a new keyboard from Microsoft this Quarter should solve that problem.

    Awesome Speed Ultra Portable

I love the size and the speed. I use this for business and personal and it handles apps and regular programs with ease. I have loaded Painter on it and it is very responsive and easy to use. I have a Cintiq which I will stick to using, but for on the go or killing time at an airport or hotel this is perfect. Lots of great free apps in every genre, and very competitive pricing on other paid apps. I wish the battery life was a little longer, and the stand was a little more adjustable (different angles).

No longer using my Mac for everyday

The past 6 years, I have been a Mac head, but the cost of a new one was just out of my budget. I bought the surface and now I can take it everywhere. It fits in most of my pocketbooks, even the smallish ones. Only thing which was hard to get used to was the stylus but I keep at it. I have small hands so the keyboard is terrific. For my son, not so much. I would have liked a two position flap in the back instead of one.

The best blend of a computer and tablet

The Surface is well designed, and feels like high quality. Easy to load Windows based computer programs on it, which is not possible with a tablet. Screen is vivid and clear. The included stylus is energized and works like a mouse, and a pen for on-screen writing. Very clever. Price is high for this technology, but not so high to stop the buyer.

LOVE the surface! Attached it to a Plugable UD-3900 USB 3.0 Docking Station and was able to connect TWO external monitors and keyboard and mouse when I need it. Otherwise I can fit it in my purse and take my work home with me. No more syncing emails or going through them twice!

I can go on a sales call and take pictures (the camera is good and that's all I need) and load them into my needed programs. I can use Office. I use Office 365 so there's not a lot of memory used on the surface Pro. And expandable memory card when I need it. The size is super handy and I like the added weight (just over 2 lbs because it is a computer, not just a tablet - but not heavy)as it helps me remember I have a pricey piece of equipment to respect. The 'pen' is awesome and easy, And when I'm done working, there is plenty of fun with apps, etc. I can also access my iTunes so I don't have a complicated process of how to get an iTunes list on a Droid, etc.

Overall, I love my Surface. It's small, convenient, and does everything I need it to do. My only couple of complaints are that the pen docks in the same port that the charger plugs into, so there's nowhere for the pen when it's plugged in. It's also a little heavy compared to other tablets... but it does a lot more than most tablets.

Let me start by saying that I've tried 5 or 6 Windows 8/Windows RT tablet combos in the last few months. Each one was nice in it's own way, but most had some very fatal flaws. Most Windows 8 machines have Atom processors, which aren't bad for the basics, but they can't do much in the way of multimedia creation or complex graphics. I'm a realtor, and those machines could probably handle 90% of what I need, but this one does exactly what I want with a very small footprint. Windows 8 complexities aside, this is easily the best laptop/tablet combo I've used. The battery only lasts about 4-5 hours for me, but that's good enough for my needs. If you're looking for LONG battery life, look somewhere else. If you're looking for a great computer with minimal trade-offs, this it a great system.

The Perfect Piece of Hardware for a Student

I am a student whose laptop died right before the Surface Pro was released and I discovered the Surface while researching my replacement. I was pretty much prepared to convert to Mac until I saw this. I knew it was a perfect fit right away. I could not have made a better decision than buying the Surface Pro. It does EVERYTHING I need for school and more! Because it functions as a PC, I am able to utilize the full complement of network services that my university offers because I am able to install the programs necessary. During class, I just fold over the keyboard, lay the tablet down on my desk and handwrite my notes into OneNote. I also upload Power Points to OneNote where I can mark, highlight, and annotate any slide I want. The writing feature is seamless and smooth. It is incredibly easy. OneNote can even recognize my sloppy cursive and convert my handwriting into text. This is my first experience with Windows 8 and I have to say that I am pretty happy with it. I think Microsoft did a good job with this as a crossover to future OS's as it still retains a desktop which is always an old, familiar friend when you want to go back to it. The ONLY downside that I have discovered was that the paint on the casing wears off VERY easily. When I first got the Surface, I would take the keyboard off and set the tablet on my desk with the case in direct contact with the tabletop. In a matter of days, you could see the paint starting to show wear in certain places and scratches starting to accumulate on the back. Easy enough to remedy as I just leave the keyboard on and fold it over. No biggie. All in all, I think MS knocked it out of the park with this one and it is a fantastic tool for any student. Enjoy!!

    Good but not great

I was excited to get the new surface pro tablet and picked it up right when it came out. It worked well for the most part and was light and very quick. Occasionally the on screen keyboard would not come up or the screen would not orient properly but these were minor nuisances. I intended to use this as my main computer and use adapters to plug into an external monitor. I quickly filled up the 128gb hard drive since the operating system and apps ate up 40gb of space. the 64GB model would be virtually useless. The design of the unit was good and it was super quick but I decided to return mine primarily because the battery life was so bad. Microsoft claims it gets 4-5 hours but I never got more than 2.5 hours under normal operation like emails, word processing and surfing the internet. I downloaded and watched a movie on a full charge and only got through 1.5 hours of a 2 hour movie before i was out of battery. This made it useless for me if I were to go on a trip and I found myself constantly plugging it in which defeats the portability of a tablet. The type keyboard is not very good and does not work well unless it is on a hard surface which eliminated the ability to use it on your lap sitting anywhere but a table. The screen was too small to functionally use the desktop mode and I found myself avoiding using it because it was uncomfortable on my eyes and uncomfortable to use anywhere but a table. The lack of even a built in HDMI port and the small and uncomfortable mouse pad made me carry around an external mouse, power supply and adapters which when I added up the weight was over 3.5 lbs which is what an ultrabook weighs. Oh, and the sound quality and volume is horrendous. I couldn't even hear a movie in complete silence. And the lack of good apps makes it not very useful as a tablet. It was a nice try for Microsofts first attempt into tablet hardware, but unfortunately it lacks real world functionality and battery life. I picked up a Lenovo Yoga 13 inch for less money than the surface and the type keyboard with the same specs and it solved all of my issues except for the harddrive space. I think the issues are fixable but I would not recommend this product at this time.

I want to begin by saying I love this tablet and I have not real complaints. It enables my to use as both a tablet and a PC. Therefore, it is a great substitute for anyone that travels and doesn't want to carry around a laptop. If you just want a tablet with a ton of Aps, this probably isn't the product for you. But if you want something that can be both a tablet and a PC, this is the product. My only complaint is with Best Buy. I am a Rewards Zone member, but not an Elite Plus member. I purchased this product shortly before Christmas. Right around New Years, Best Buy dropped that price by $80. I asked and received a price match. Around 30 days later, they dropped the price again by another $100. I asked for the price match again, but was denied. They indicated that their price match guaranty on electronics is only for 15 days from the date of purchase unless you are an Elite Plus member, plus they would only allow 1 price match regardless of how often they reduced the price. While I realize the price match guaranty should not be open ended, I feel if they are going to reduce the price that often and that substantial, they should have honored the second price match. Once again, I realize my review should focus on the product itself, but, I felt it was important for customers of Best Buy to understand their policies. Plus I wanted a means of voicing my displeasure with this particular Best Buy policy.

I bought this tablet because it has an I5 processor and full windows. The first one was defective but BB ordered me replacement, no hassles. It is great for travel, very light and easy to carry. Lighted keyboard and Bluetooth mouse and you have a nice laptop for under 3 pounds.

I originally purchased the Microsoft Surface RT and after using it for a few days, realized, you couldn't actually use it like a windows PC. The RT version of windows is locked, allowing only installation of Apps from the Windows Store. I returned it and bought the Microsoft Surface Pro. I must say, it brings the whole windows PC experience to a tablet. You can install and run just everything on the Surface Pro that you have on you PC. It syncs with my Windows 8 desktop and is much more convenient to carry around then a laptop. My only disappointment with the Surface Pro is it's battery life. If you are looking to get a Surface, definitely spend a little more and get the Pro 1. They are currently priced at over half that of the Pro 2.

I got this for my GF's graduation and she loves it. She wanted a laptop/tablet combo with a usb port. Its quick to load up and start using right away. There is some things that require some getting used to but that with any new UI. I don't use apple products much and if i do there's always something that i have to figure out. the screen is brilliant and HD. Pictures look great and clear and video is sharp. Also, it can run anything that can run on Windows 7 so all my old programs work just fine!

I was excited to finally get a tablet. I choose the Surface Pro as it has the power of a laptop (i5 processor) & it has both a USB port and a micro SD port. These will be great when traveling so I don't have to bring my laptop with to back up my photos from my camera.

The Surface Pro is great for someone who wants a tablet form factor & also wants the ability to use a full PC OS to create documents, email, spread sheets ect. If there was a docking station or port replicator for this device it would be my main PC now. The touch interface is very easy to use & once you are on the desktop app it is basically just like a normal Windows PC. The only real drawbacks are the price, and it does get kind of warm compared to other tablet devices. As I work in IT I think this is a great device for someone in a similar position.

For me this computer is perfect. I can run all my applications, but travels really well. The keyboard is great. I use it when sitting at a desk or table and its very efficient. When sitting on the couch I pull it off and use the touch screen. I like the start screen interface. I like sky drive. And the USB port is great. The first time I hooked it to a usb laser printer and printed out a boarding pass using a tablet I was very excited. Goes through airport security in your bag.

As a photographer I was looking to update my laptop to a new tablet type device. Contacting my cell phone provider I was informed that tablets are nothing but glorified cell phones. I was then turned onto the Microsoft surface Pro. Being that editing and archiving the two primary workload practices I'll be using for and in the field large-format image review. The surface pro has yet to fail me! Man I first got this time tablet it blew my mind! Is the wave of the future keyboard totally unnecessary. Mouse totally unnecessary. In general computer know-how Not needed. Looking forward to becoming more attached to this beautiful surface in the future thank you Best Buy for being my merchandise provider and thank you Microsoft for making such outstanding equipment!

As a full-time employee and full-time grad school student, I need maximum versatility in my equipment and resources. The surface pro fits my needs as a compact computer resource with functionality and quick response. To ensure the continued speed of the unit, I keep large files stored on an external hard drive and only keep work in progress on the surface pro. So far, I have no complaints. The unit absolutely performs as advertised.
