I bought this to replace an ASUS vivotab smart that had the screen shattered. I loved that tablet, but thought it would be nice to have something with a little more power. I use it for both work and personal use and love the ability to have Excel and my email, for example, as well as lots of other multi-tasking. The pen can be very useful; it's great to make notes on documents, etc. On the personal side, I love playing Civilization V on it (with just touch controls). Only negatives are the weight and short battery life.

    A Real Tablet

After checking out my son's iPad and him unable to answer my basic question of "what's it really good for?" Apparently it will do all kinds of things, just nobody out of all the family and friends that I have, can show me something compelling, that made me want to get one. So I waited and waited and waited, for the Surface Pro. And I wasn't disappointed.....it can do all the "tablet stuff" AND it can do "real computer stuff" also. Slowly it is pushing my 17" laptop to the back of the shelf! Other than the price, which was the only thing that has even given me a twinge of "buyers remorse"... it has been great! I have been able to do anything I wanted or needed it to do!! A real tablet!

Let me start out by saying that I'm well past 12 yo (I'm 63) so the learning curve for me is steeper than for most. I just don't find Windows 8 intuitive, but that's a software issue not a hardware issue. I had to download and print the manual (again, I'm old) but as I use the Pro it's getting easier. I'm sure that after more use my "problems" will disappear. The camera should have more pixels and features and I'm getting about 5-6 hours on the battery, but it's still better than my laptop. For this price both should be better. I use the Pro for business and pleasure and so far it has done everything I need it to do. It's fast and there are plenty of apps to make it extremely functional. The USB means I'm not tied to finding WiFi to access the cloud. I'm pleased with my purchase.

    Great alternative to a tablet

I returned a previous touchscreen laptop that I had purchased to get this after they dropped the price 100 bucks. It was a good choice. I could not be happier with the Surface Pro. I got the 128 GB version so I would not have to really worry about disk space and I also picked up a 64GB micro SDXC Card to use as a little extra space just in case. As a tablet it is a little heavy over extended use but you get use to it. And as a laptop replacement (it really is a laptop inside anyway) it works great. I would recomend picking up one of the type/touch covers as it helps tremendously if using it at a desk. Best of all the thing boots in about 5 seconds from off to desktop/start screen. Great Product!!

Surface Pro does a great job filling the space for a full featured PC in the form factor of a low weight touch screen tablet. I am a road warrior and I have converted from a Lenovo X220 to the Surface Pro as my primary machine. I can get 5 1/2 hours of battery life; enough for a trans-continental flight. Screen is very good in all respects. I use with a type cover/keyboard and sometimes with an external 22 inch monitor on a desk. Added a 64Gig high speed SDXC card for additional document storage.

I was pretty happy to score this at the price that I did. I've needed to replace my laptop for a while and this works great as a laptop or a tablet. Though it's a little heavy to use as a tablet.

Great tablet, bought at Best Buy for $599. Once you navigate through Windows 8 easy to use. Screen quality is great, ability to use MS Office is wonderful especially if using for business and personal use. As others have said somewhat heavy, but for me the additional weight is fine and carry on the road all the time. Battery life is limited compared to other tablets, but based on my use (home, on the road for business), I have not had any issues with battery life.

I was looking for a good computer to use for work stuff; one that I could use for play (iTunes, Kindle app, streaming video, etc...); and one that could travel easily (ie...one that could take the place realistically of my larger Toshiba and Kindle when doing so). So far the Surface Pro has met all of those needs without being difficult. I am not a computer programmer, nor am I exceptionaliy savy with computers. However, this computer has been quick and functions as advertised. Windows 8, which has received a lot of criticism works quite nicely on this system...the touchscreen to type cover to stylus pen works exceptionally well and intuitively on the Surface Pro. I love Apple products, so this is no slam to them...but Microsoft put out a lovely product that is easily used for all of us tied to the MS system.

I'm required to travel often during the day and have to work from my car answering emails and running several programs at once. This is by far the best computer for this. Start up time is super fast and I'm able to get to information that I need quickly. It also runs the full version of Microsoft Office On a personal note I enjoy having all the extras for my Xbox. The interaction with the console and esp. the upcoming features that have been incorporated into the games releasing this fall. Overall easy to use, travels well and has both great work and fun function!

This thing is incredibly fast and easily drives my 27" 2560x1440 monitor when at home. Great screen on it's own when I'm not at home. Lasts all day on battery with minor tweaks to the power config. Just can't believe there is this much power in such a small package.

If you are someone who travels a lot and usually has to lug a laptop or netbook around then you may want to consider a surface tablet instead. It is much lighter and just as fast! Its awesome

Needed a 2nd laptop that I could travel with that was small but had all the capabilities of my large 15" Dell. With Office 365 and SkyDrive I am able to sync files between both computers to serve the exact need I had. Can use as a tablet (no zoom ability) or with the optional keyboard. Also added 64gb SD card so I have a total of 192gb of hard drive storage. I will note the touch pad on the optional keypad is not the greatest, but I also have a wireless mouse to use with the keyboard when needed.

The Surface Pro is absolutely the most incredible piece of technology I have purchased. The handwriting ability is great-taking notes in meetings is easy without the Click of keys. My only warning is that your wireless router needs to be new-the Surface has limited connectivity to older routers, which made my surface a pain until we got a new one. The screen quality is excellent. This is my new "laptop" that is small and light enough to put in a larger purse.

I purchased the Microsoft Surface Pro for my wife to use. I wanted to replace her two year old Toshiba laptop. I had purchased a HP touchscreen laptop for a Christmas gift that was sent back to the manufacturer for a full refund because it did not work well with the Windows 8 platform. I waited six months more hearing her frustrations with the Toshiba's keyboard before purchasing the MS Surface Pro. I have heard nothing but compliments from my wife regarding the quality of the computer. It does everything a laptop will do and serves as a tablet as well. She has yet to give up the Toshiba but I suspect she soon will as it is seldom powered up. It has not replaced her tablets (Kindle HD, Blackberry PlayBook and Samsung Tab). The Surface Pro makes for a heavy tablet. Overall the MS Surface Pro is a fast computer at a high price that does it all. With the help of the bonus points from Best buy a MS Surface keyboard was added. The keyboard is highly recommended as it frees up the screen for more viewing.

The Microsoft Surface Pro is simply an awesome computer. I've tried and played with others, including other Windows 8 tablets (none were as well designed nor worked as well), and Android tablets (simply a waste of time in my opinion). And of course there's iPad, but don't be confused -- iPad is not equivalent to a Surface Pro, this latter being in the class of a laptop, not just a simple tablet. The Surface Pro is a tablet sized laptop, with all the power and capability. Speed and power are all here to take advantage of as this tablet is packed with power. This is not simply a tablet for reading mail or surfing the internet, it is a full-fledged computer If you are in the market for a tablet, do your homework for nothing compares to this machine.

I purchased my 128GB Surface Pro for casual use, as well as a portable means of working on writing and art projects. The Surface has exceeded my expectations in nearly every capacity. The screen is stunning, the quality of the materials is great, and the amount of power this little device can output is fairly impressive. Buyers looking to use the device with Photoshop should consider that the Surface utilizes new drivers that do not translate well to that software yet. Adobe and Microsoft are reportedly working on a solution for this issue. I also play games and used to lug my tower from my home to a friends, and I rarely take the tower over my Surface now. I take a slight hit to FPS and overall graphics quality, but the ease of use and setup is worth it. I've played games like Awesomenauts, Mass Effect 3, and Call of Duty with hardly any issues.

Overall this is a good device, powerful enough for basic computer tasks and still very portable. The only downsides are the battery life, and that it is almost twice as thick as most tablets.
