The blue is very striking, but be aware that the triggers, bumpers, and back are dark blue though they appear black in most pictures. This is the newest controller, but it is compatible with all Xbox One systems. Small improvements have been made since the 3.5mm model, but save for the cosmetic changes, I couldn't tell you what those are. The back does have a nice texture to it.

We had purchased an “off brand” previously, because we didn’t want to spend the money for an OEM controller. It didn’t last a week. Definitely spend a little extra the first time, you’ll save yourself money (and a meltdown from your child) in the long run! You can always purchase optional skins for your controller, if you’d like to personalize it.
