You must use a data USB-C in order to connect the controller properly and update the firmware. None of this is explained with the product nor does it come with the cord. Combing through useless Microsoft articles was a waste, eventually found the answer on reddit. But after finally setting it all up, love this thing. The textured back is a welcome addition, but I've been using my Xbox360 controller for ages.
