Trying out game pass will cancel that subscription, and you will have to pay the new price if you don't want to keep game pass. Xbox customer service would not switch me back to my old subscription and said I would have to pay the doubled price from now on. Old customers with auto renew get to keep the old price.

We're sorry that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate hasn't met expectations. Since Ultimate membership includes the benefits of Xbox Live Gold, upgrading to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate automatically converts your existing Xbox Live Gold membership to the new service.
The good news is that Xbox is not changing the pricing for Xbox Live Gold after all. If you'd like to continue as a Xbox Live Gold member, simply cancel your Ultimate membership and allow it to run out. Once it's done, you may restart your Xbox Live Gold membership for the same price you were paying before. Purchased this via the BestBuy app and had it mailed to my home. Gave to my children for Christmas only to find that the merchant (BestBuy) did not activate. Figured not really a big deal, will go into the store to have them activate. Nope! They told me at the store Customer Service there is nothing they can do. So I'm out the money I purchased due to an error on BestBuy's side.

Very Disappointing!

Went in and signed up, only to be taken to another site that required additional monthly fees per game. I thought perhaps I had done something wrong in the sign up process, so attempted to sign in again. Received a message that the membership was already activated. Paid a great deal of money only to not be able to use the "membership" at all. Very sad for my grandson who received this as a gift and was looking forward to having access to games for 3 months!
