Xbox one gold pass is great. You get free games that you or the kids can ply for free and That's with the online gaming you get. I just wish it was cheaper.

For the price that Microsoft is charging I expect the game servers for online play no not crash, there are times when Xbox live is down for the entire day. The free games the you get for having a gold membership are really crummy games that are not worth the space on your hard drive. I have so many games on Xbox one I feel almost forced to buy Xbox live. When the services are working the way they were intended the Xbox live gold really pays off

You need it to play multilayer and use most apps. The free games are a little iffy but they're free at least.

It's a year's membership to Xbox live so it's pretty cut and dry. Recommend the year over the other options since it makes the per month cost cheaper.
