Two free games every month (double that if you have an Xbox 360 AND an Xbox 1 on the same account) is more than worth the price. On top of that, it's a great way to stay in touch with your gaming friends and see what everybody is playing. I've found some really great games just by asking friends about the games I had seen them frequently playing.

You need it to get online and I always found it easier to grab cards over adding my card to my account. It is definitely beneficial when you stop playing on and off as I do for months at a time. No sense in paying for something you are not using.
