Sure, you could get away with not having it, and some games do not require or benefit from it, but pretty much anything with online play will require it, and they give you free games to download every month to make it worth your while. Said free games aren't just trash either, sometimes there's some excellent titles! Just be sure to check in every month for the free games and have a good size external hard drive for the free stuff.

In addition, Gold members can also enjoy deep discounts on Xbox games and apps in the Windows Store. Investing in an external hard drive for extra storage space is an awesome suggestion, too!
