Customers enjoy the Xbox One Media Remote's ease of use, backlight, and comfortable size and design. Many appreciate its good battery life and the pleasant feel and texture. However, some users point out limitations in range and the need for a direct line of sight to the console. The infrared technology and occasional response time delays were also noted as potential drawbacks.

Pass.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Needs direct line of sight and button pushes to wake up. Can get frustrating at times. Thought using the controller for media was terrible, this is on a new level.

It is okay.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It works great but the infrared has to be directly pointed at it with nothing in the way and has to be decently close in order for it to work. I'm sure there are remotes out there that work a little better.

Not worth it, use controller
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the second one I have bought thinking the first one was messed up because my toddler kept dropping it. Turns out the second one worked just as poorly as the first. • have to push a command button 2x's or more to get a response • doesn't light up properly • extremely slow response time. Do these remotes have a short life or did I just get dealt two flukes by sheer luck?

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So you buy this and it will turn on any Xbox one in the room. So If you only have one it will be fine. I have 3 consoles close by and it messes with all them. I thought you would have to pair it with the xbox You wanted to use it for..But nope it just works for any Xbox One So that the only down side. Just stick to your controller I say.

Great size and lots of options
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Remote is small and fits in the hand well, great texture, simple buttons, once the menu is up there are plenty of options. I do wish the response time was a bit faster.

Disapointing Functionality
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We watch most DVDs on the XBox. Sound/Video quality is great. But the gamer controller is unwieldy for just watching movies. Although the interface is simple... it is erratic in its ability to actually control the move. So, I end up using the Xbox controller after all.

Would give 5 stars if it was bluetooth.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good remote, I love how it lights up when I pull open my drawer. My only gripe is its not Bluetooth which is a problem for me. I dont have a Kinect so I have to point it at the Xbox one and my table in front of my sofa only makes it worse. My PS3 remote was Bluetooth and I didn't even need to move at all for it to work. Overall I'm happy with it though it has a nice feel to it and the fact that it lights up is a plus. A side note there is no controller buttons on the remote so navigation on some apps can be tricky at times.

Too generic for Xbox one
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Expected more, too generic and not user friendly. Find myself still using the controller to navigate instead. Compared to PS3 remote this feels too basic for a next gen console remote.

Good for a limited time
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very comfortable in the hand and worked great... for about 3 months. Yes, I changed the batteries. It’s not even heavy enough to be a paperweight.

Don't buy
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was told this is a must when I bought Xbox. I have to press buttons many times to get it to work. Controller is much easier to use. Waste of money

Works Better Than Expected
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this slightly after canceling cable and purchasing the HD OTA adapter for the XBox One. This not only is it sized correctly (I always thought it was the size of the AppleTV remote) but it functions just like the controller and also controls volume. When you pick it up the back lit buttons illuminate automatically as well. Great addition to the XBox System especially if you are planning on cutting the cord with cable.

Easy to use and great fit and finish!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Xbox One Media Remote arrived today, and after just a couple of hours with it, I have to say I like it quite a bit. For starters, the packaging: Like all the packaging for the Xbox One and it's official accessories, Microsoft is really doing things right. No plastic clamshell cases that require scissors, a crowbar, and a blowtorch to open. Just an elegant, simple box that opens with the lift of a lid, and the contents firmly ensconsed within, sitting in a molded cardboard cradle. Lift the cardboard tray, and the two included AAA batteries are attached on the underside. Beneath the tray you will find the warranty info, manual, and quickstart guide. The first thing I noticed when holding the remote for the first time was the solidness of it. It feels very well crafted, with a nice weight to it that I wasn't expecting for such a small device. It's not heavy by any means, but it's perfectly weighted (even moreso with the batteries inserted) and doesn't feel like it will fly out of your hand while using it. Immediately after noting the weight and construction quality, I was struck by the general feel of the materials. The entire remote has a soft rubbery feel to it, adding to the overall feel that this device isn't going anywhere once you've got it in your hand. This coating does have a tendancy to attract dust, mostly on the underside of the device. Installing the batteries requires you to slide the entire back panel of the device down. There is no door, or clip to be seen, which is nice because it does not interfere with the design aesthetic. The design is simple and elegant (there are those words again), with a nice curved back that feels very comfortable in the hand, and the button placement is well thought out. The smaller size of the remote ensures that one handed operation is easy, with no stretching of the fingers or thumb to hit buttons at the extreme top or bottom of the device. The buttons themselves are very responsive, and have a nice solid feel, giving a good click/thunk when you press them. The addition of a dedicated OneGuide button is most welcome, as is the back button. The remote has a gyroscopic sensor in it that responds when you pick it up, causing the buttons to light up for a few short seconds. A very useful feature if you are watching TV in a darkened home theater, or just surfing the couch after hours with the lights out. If you have your cable box passing through your Xbox One, and have set your TV up in your settings, then the remote controls your volume and channels, mute function, and the play/pause/rewind/fast forward functions for your cable box, and the Xbox One's Blu-ray player. There's not too much more to be said. This is a simple, basic remote. There are no bells and whistles to speak of. This is not a universal remote, so if you are looking for something to control all the components in your home theater, this isn't the remote for you. If your needs are simple, though, and like me, you hate using your Xbox controller for your TV or Blu-ray viewing, than this is the way to go. This is a well made, super functional accessory that focuses on ease of use, build quality, and clean design.

Good (Not Great) Remote for Xbox One
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this remote for my Xbox One in hopes that it would make it easier for my wife and kids and to use video streaming apps on the Xbox One. In that respect I would say the product does what it is intended to do. It is a lot nicer to use this remote to navigate the menu for those apps with the remote and to me the biggest thing is that if we are streaming a movie we do not have to worry about having to restart a controller to pause the movie. This was always a problem previously, so it is a lot nicer that the remote works whenever you need it to and doesn't power off like the controllers do. I would have preferred if this would have worked without needing line of sight to the Xbox One, but that is a minor gripe for most people. I previously had the Xbox One set up in a closet and this remote would not work for that setup. Overall a good remote with some minor annoyances.

Good alternative to control the xbox
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This remote is not really a "must have" for the xbox one. It doesn't really do anything that your controller, or the xbox one app can't already do. It's more of a convenience to have another way to control your xbox. It works very well and it is more convenient to use this remote than to use the game controller or to open the app. When you pick it up the buttons light up, which is great for use in dark environments.

Does what its supposed to
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This remote works great. Before when i would watch Netflix or Hulu i would constantly have to turn on the controller again because it was sitting so long. Its a small hassle but worth the purchase. The remote is very easy for anyone to use and has a great response time.

Absolutely LOVE it!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this as a spur of the moment thing. I saw it needed to use a Reward Certificate and thought to myself, "I am tired of using my controller to control Netflix, BluRay playback, Hulu . . . " etc. I am so glad I bought it. I cannot live without it now.

Must have for Xbox One
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very useful and functional remote. I compared it with other third party remotes before buying, but decided that the official one was worth spending another few dollars on. The backlit buttons when picking it up is a nice touch, and it worked with my Xbox and TV out of the box. The only thing I'm not too keen on is that the remote uses IR instead of WiFi Direct like the Xbox controllers. I'm sure that's to keep battery life long, but I would prefer to not worry about aiming it at the Xbox/TV every time. Still, a great no-hassle remote and does what it needs to.
