Good gaming system with some streaming flaws

Great gaming . Somewhat difficult set up and the UI is not user friendly . My main gripe is while Watching Dolby vision content through the Netflix app . Dolby vision is on all the time , even on non DV material . This might sound trivial but newer tv’s run Dolby vision super bright . My Sony for example maxes the brightness when it detects a DV signal . So while watching old tv shows , everything is too bright . I can turn down the brightness , But then other DV content from another app will be too dark

      Hey there,

We're glad that you're mostly happy with your new Xbox One S, but sorry that you're experiencing difficulty with Dolby Vision support. It is possible to turn off Dolby Vision support manually when watching content that doesn't support it. To turn it off, simply open the Settings app and navigate to the Display & Sound tab, then select Video Output and then Video Modes. Once there, click off Allow Dolby Vision.

      Hope that helps,

I like the device, it's not my favorite compared to the PS4 and Switch, but you just can't get Forza on a PS4 or Nintendo Switch, or Halo, for those that play that.

It's a great system. Sadly it has a lack of exclusive games. But, games like cup head and master cheif collection are some awesome games.

Hello, just bought the mentioned console. Is it possible to download games during membership trial period? Will the downloaded games still be playable after expiry of trial period? Thanks in advance

      Hey there,

We hope you enjoy your new Xbox One S! Regarding your question: If you're talking about the trial membership for Xbox Live Gold, you can download and play free games during your trial period but must be an active Gold member to continue playing them after the trial period expires. For more information on what you get for being a Xbox Live Gold member, go here: https://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/gold

    Terrible system! Requires constant updates!

Worst of all Xboxes in terms of being user-friendly. It requires updates on all games that I try to use and each update requires no less than 30 minutes to download and usually 45 minutes or longer. Updates mostly are to increase promotional data and advertising additional products that you're not interested in anyway. Xbox has gone way over the limit on intruding on customer convenience. Graphics great, etc., but what a hassle to use!

      Hey there,

We're sorry to hear that you're having difficulties with your Xbox One S. Rest assured, most game updates add features and fix bugs in order to improve the overall game experience. While some games may require major updates, many are relatively small. If you're experiencing unusually long download times, here are some tips that may make upgrades go faster: https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/networking/troubleshoot-slow-game-or-app-downloads-on-xbox-one

Come on Microsoft, Get a Clue

    Posted .

Dear Microsoft, I think you're starting to fail the consumer front. I've read the comments here from Microsoft and it's clear they don't have a clue. I both love and hate the Xbox Experience. The features you get on paper are great, but the reality of the matter and experience most of the time is somewhat horrible. The console is great in theory, but my experience using the New UI/UX is overwhelming and underwhelming at the same time. I am unimpressed with the UI/UX and how intuitive it is to use at first. Give me back the Xbox 360 UI/UX over the Xbox One's any-day. I love the Xbox and the theoretical benefits, but the setup is cumbersome and frankly awful at times, I totally agree with the negative comments. I can see both sides. I like that you can install Windows apps (though be it limited) on Xbox and multipurpose the thing, which makes it win out to the PlayStation 4 to me. But the marketing is confusing, come on "Xbox One" and now I have to call the "First Xbox" classic. And Xbox One S sounds like a lower model, not an improvement. I wonder how your board meetings go on deciding things... I digress. Most of us, I imagine, just deal with it issues -- 30GB+ updates for a single new game takes a day if not more to download which is ridiculous, if you have disk versions instead of downloaded games, game updates are still large but fail constantly without the disk in (how do you schedule multiple updates to update overnight?). Also, while downloading, the system hangs and freezes.. it's not particularly good at multitasking even if you kill all recent apps. Many apps have issues from my little experience of only a few months, etc. You charge a lot for a system that feels unpolished, much like open source software, and if I didn't have the 1TB model with an external hard drive, the experience would be 10 times worse. The system, for whatever reason, uses ~300GB with nothing installed. What's going on Microsoft, why can't you produce a coherent product. And if you didn't have so many problems, I don't think people would complain. I'm a systems admin myself with a long history in technology. I love what you CAN do with the Xbox, but it feels more like a Dev. tool that happens to play games rather than a polished Gaming Console for consumer use. All that being said, I love my Xbox but I'm also a tinkerer, Engineer at heart, and can troubleshoot pretty much any issue. That's not your average consumer, and I'm not sure you're understanding that. It's a great system in theory, but it just falls short. P.S. And so, for the reasons listed above and more, I couldn't recommend this system to a friend because it's way to much work, they're better going with a PlayStation because it "just works" much the way people go with "Apple" for the same reason. Also, you need to have a pretty good and reliable internet connection if you want the most from this system. I'll take Android, Windows, and Xbox over those choices any day but I'm technical support in my household and I enjoy customizing things, having the ability to add apps, and I can handle the relatively cumbersome setup to get things working well. But for the "average" user, no and "real" gamers still run a PC.

    Not the best out there.

There really is no point in buying this version with the X being out there. My biggest problem with this system is the exclusives. Ps4 had better games and a the menu is so much easier to use. I have always hated xbox's menu. I sold mine and got a PC. Best decision I ever made.

Well disappointing to me, had to update software before it can be used 1GB update, the negative every game I played needed to be updated like 30 GB for the game to work! I expected to just pop the game in and play , also colors were less than impressive, this new XBox was incredible slow like a old hard drive expected more from a new ideam , retuned was so disappointing

    Parents Beware

Bought this at Christmas, with a few new games Hello Neighbor, Minecraft etc. My kids tried for a week to play these games but they had to upload then after waiting for that it was needs updates, this is something you think will take a few mins, nope it was days and nothing, after 2 weeks they were only able to play one game out of 6 and the games are not cheap, then I find out you need to be on something called Xbox live which you pay 60$ a year for. I don’t want an 8 and 9 year olds playing online at all. Most games won’t work unless you do this. I call the company for advice and they had none to give me. Getting someone on the phone from Microsoft that knows about gaming is a joke. You also have to make email accounts and passcodes and yada Yaddaa AHHHH! What happens to put game in and play it? It should be easier not harder. I will never buy a gaming system again. They use Apps easy tap and play no headaches!
