Customers are saying

Customers love the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter's compatibility and sound quality, frequently praising its ease of use and convenient volume controls. While some users mentioned connection issues and a bulky design, the positive feedback on functionality and affordability outweighs these concerns. Many appreciate the mute button and find the price reasonable. However, a few users noted concerns about battery life and the adapter's size.

Did not need this accessory for PS4, Microsoft should've given these away to Xbox one owners once Xbox one s controllers came out

I can't use any of the headphones I use with my phone / iPad. MS should update to make it compatible with iOS and Android headsets.

My son loves this adapter to plug right into the bottom of his controller, so that he can game and talk on his headset! I bought him one for each of his controllers (2) incase he has a friend over who would need one while they're playing the game on Xbox Live as well.

I picked this up today because I have 2 turtle beach headsets that have been sitting in a box due to their incompatibility with the x1. Once I updated my controllers to be able to use the adapter, it was a cinch to get my turtle beach working with the x1. Now what I didn't know was that if I took my Razer Electra headphones with the in-line microphone and hooked them up to the adaptor, not only do I get game audio, but it also recognizes the mic on it , allowing me to chat with it. This is awesome because I less cumbersome to use my razer headphone than my turtle beaches. The adaptor also has buttons that allow you to mix between the game audio and the chat audio, which is a feature that I liked from the turtle beach headsets. The only issue I see is that the xbox could use an equalizer for the adaptor. While the audio is good, it is kind of bland. Granted this could be fixed in a later update on the x1, but for the time being, this issue isn't something that should keep you from purchasing it.

Works for my Turtle Beach X12

I definitely recommend this product to anybody who doesn't want to pay a lot of money to buy a headset specifically made for the XB1. With that said, I can only speak to my Turtle Beach X12 headset. It was extremely easy to install. There are very clear and concise instructions that come with the adapter. I'm not sure if I actually needed to, but I connected the headset to the TV with the red and white cables like I did with the 360. The only difference is I didn't connect the pinkish and green cables to anything (before I had the green cable connected to the headset plug on the TV, but that's no longer needed). The update took only a couple minutes and then I was able to get both game and chat sound on the headset. The game sound is still very clear. I haven't had a chance to check the mic yet for chat, but I think Microsoft has made updates to make it work better. Before there were a lot of complaints of having to move the mic far away from the face and it being overly loud as well as hearing static. With that said, I'm not overly thrilled with having to pay another $25, but I thought the alternative was much better than forking up 3-4x as much on a new quality headset. Having a headset is a necessity for me because I have a 1 1/2 year old and this spares him from having to listen to 12 year olds screaming on chat as well as the possibility of waking up from the game volume haha.

Allows the use of 3.5mm jack headphones

The mic/headphones that come with the xbox one are garbage and it uses a non-standard jack so no way to use headphones that you may have without this adapter. The adapter works well but the 3.5mm jack should have been standard in the first place. Looks like microsoft realized their mistake and the new controller with the 1TB xbox one just released comes with a 3.5mm jack.

Good adapter, on par with PS4's similar feature

For full disclosure: my review of this controller adapter is colored by my experience of a similar feature built into the PS4 controller. I have both consoles. I usually prefer Xbox over Playstation, but I believe my assessment of this adapter is unbiased by my preferences. --- This adapter not only lets you use your 3.5mm and 2.5mm (with included cable) jacked headsets, it also serves live stereo audio from your game, movie, or TV to the headset. To me, this is the prime feature. For a headset to work this way, it needs to be a "smartphone" style headset/earphoes. The best way to determine this is to count how many black rings are on your headset plug. Three is a smartphone headset with a mic. (Two is only stereo.) I use a Skullcandy headset with a microphone in-line. Other gaming headsets may or may not work well with this adapter. Surround sound headsets with a secondary 2.5mm cable for chat capability will only be able to take advantage of chat functions. Rely on your normal method for getting game audio. The next best feature of this adapter is the audio mixing capability. Buttons on the adapter allow you to modify the mix between game and chat audio. When adjusting, one side rises until both sides are equally loud, and then the other source starts to decrease. There is also a master volume control that increases or decreases the mixed volume. This is a feature that the PS4 controller fails to provide with such ease, requiring a manual adjustment in the device settings. The negatives are that the sound can drop out if the signal gets obstructed. I sit about 15-20 feet from the Xbox One, and if I obstruct the signal with my body, I can get the signal to become intermittent. However, in normal practice, this is a non-issue for me. It is merely a limitation at the edge of being troublesome. Odds are that most users will not notice this unless they have excessive obstruction. I have not had this issue with PS4, at least as far as I have noticed. Also, the controller requires an "update". There is a firmware on the controller itself and the adapter comes with a sheet that walks through updating the controller. And if you are having trouble getting the instructions to pop up on screen, there is a controller update option in the settings app under system. I had to find this myself. In a few more notes of comparison, the PS4 implementation of this feature is built into the controller, meaning the cost of this feature is increased by the cost of this adapter on the Xbox One. Also, I have not seen any such audio drops on the PS4 controller. Also, the PS4 can automatically mute audio when the controller audio is active. If you want to silence your TV with the Xbox One, you have to do that manually, by saying "Xbox, Mute" or using your remote. I believe the negatives and the positives of both implementations balance each other out and Microsoft's answer to Sony's headset functionality is a worthy answer. While Microsoft provides a more feature rich implementation, the Sony solution is more refined and built in. Aside from comparisons, I have to dock the adapter a star for difficulty upgrading the controller and for the slight audio issue, but it still comes highly recommended if your case is one that would benefit from these features.

Microsoft is seemingly unable to design a sensible way to use headphones with the Xbox, so these adapters are must-have. It's fairly straight-forward and works as it should.

This works great for a easily customizable game/chat volume. The adaptor piece broke after a few months of use but they are pretty cheap to replace, I bought my new one off Amazon. You just have to make sure the adapt piece will work with the controller because not just any 3.5 mm male part will work. Other than the 2.5 to 3.5 adaptor it is an amazing piece.

The chat headset adapter is a great device that allows the Xbox One to use devices such as the Razer Kraken as an audio source and chat adapter.

The product does exactly what it says it does. It allows me to hear stereo sound through with my Xbox 360 headset and communicate over Xbox Live with the headset's microphone.
