If you have a dolby surround headseth like me, from last generation of consoles. It will work with it. I din like the fact that I have to spend money on this when microsoft could just use the same 2.5 connection and save me money.

Decent solution
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.My son has a nice Turtlebeach headset for the Xbox 360 that did not work with our new Xbox one (thanks Msoft)... this addresses that fairly nicely, though the included directions are minimal, had to hit up youtube to get some info to assist with setup to get chat working.

Allows your headset to work with older Xbox Ones

Volume control gives you the ability to control game sounds and chat volumes separately. A must if you want to use a headset with your older Xbox One controller.

I didn't think an adapter would make a difference but it did and I'm glad I purchased this adapter because I was going to return the headset. I am happy with the purchase.
