I was replacing my controller due to drift on one of the sticks. New controller straight out of the box and had the same exact problem. I added a star because it was super easy to return.

Stick drift on the left analog stick within 2 months of pretty good use. Quality has gone downhill. Microsoft knows the issues and hasn't done anything to resolve it.
