This is a known issue with the Series X controller. In contrast, my Xbox One controller which I got a couple years ago works perfectly. I would recommend getting the older controller over this shoddily made version.

If you play every day for about an hour or two. It’ll last you about a year or so. If you play more than that the expect 6 months out of it before you have to buy a new one.
