This holiday purchase is beginning to show the first signs of stick drift already. Of course, return period has just expired. Frustrating.

We're glad that you're enjoying your new Xbox wireless controller. As you mention, this controller is not currently compatible with iOS devices, however Microsoft and Apple are working together to bring iOS compatibility to it in a future update.
