I can't write about the reliability of this specific controller series X, my son already gone through 2 of the older style Xbox controllers.

The only noticeable changes are on the menu and share buttons. The newer share button is a bit weird and it’s functionality is straightforward once you get used to it. It takes on click for screenshots and a long hold to capture video. My suggestion is feel the controllers out and if you want a true customized experience you can go with the Xbox design lab.
