They are good maybe 1 mile but by 2 miles forgetaboutit. For me no good, for you and no obstructions maybe.

Posted .Hey there - the transporting business makes me think that these radios are being used inside a vehicle. If that is the case, then yes you will see decreased range because the signal has to get around the metal and glass that make up your vehicle. As with any UHF radio, you need a line-of-sight to the other radio user.

Posted .We are sorry to hear this. Obstruction plays a big role, if you were on a cruise ship there is a lot of obstruction with all the metal on the ship.

Posted .The FCC allows for the maximum wattage in handheld radios to be 5 watts. A general rule for range is 1 mile per watt. Depending on the X-Talker model you have the wattage is between under 1/2 watt-1.8 watts. The X-Talkers average 1/4-1/2 mile. The extreme ranges can be reached in perfect conditions such as over water or mountain top to mountain top. If you are needing more range than the walkies are providing you the Midland Customer Experience Ambassadors would be happy to help with recommendations and check into a warranty replacement or exchange for you. Posted .With the range, it could be up to 28 miles. This would vary with the terrain or any obstructions that you would be in. It could be a mile or it could be more. If there are a lot of obstructions you could also get less than a mile. It truly is dependent on the setting and we cannot guarantee a minimum distance. Posted .Honestly, cruise ships are going to be difficult for any UHF walkie talkie due to the steel that makes up the ship. If you are on different floors the signal is going to have a hard time getting to you. Most people have luck using our GXT1000 series radios since they are more powerful.
Do not recommend to anyone.

Posted .Obstructions, materials and environment all play a role in radio signal. Three ranges from small to large are displayed on the packaging. If you are dissatisfied with performance please reach out to support@midlandradio.com. The support staff will help determine if you need a different model radio or it is a manufacturing issue.

Posted .The average range of the X-Talkers are 1/2-1 mile in normal environments. If your walkies are not reaching these ranges or you are not satisfied with their performance contact support@midlandusa.com to discuss what radios might be a better fit. The extreme ranges for the walkies will be reached in optimal conditions such as mountain top to mountain top or over water, which is stated on the box. The other other ranges are illustrated on the packaging as well.
