I did some research and found you need to get an antenna with dipoles(bunny ears). These flat antennas are great for channels over channel 13 but not so good for lower channels.

Posted .Greetings! This is not necessarily true for all antennas. You may want to try to do a channel scan without the included amplifier to see if that helps. Sometimes over-amplification can occur if it is not needed. We also highly recommend placing the antenna as high as you possibly can on a wall or in a window. Not so good for my location

Although the initial scan seemed fine, my reception for certain stations would often be interrupted or failed. Tried moving antenna at various locations without any improvement. Finally attached the antenna I had used with my previous tv with far superior results.
