Hi Marc! Considering you are at a shorter distance to a city, you may want to try performing a channel scan without the included amplifier to see if that helps. In most cases an amplifier isn’t necessary unless TV signals in your area are low power, or you have longer cable runs to multiple TV. It is also important to remember to place the antenna as high as possible to achieve the best signal reception, and re-scan for channels each time the antenna is moved to a different location. Try placing the antenna as high as possible, as trees and buildings can block the TV signals. You will also need to face the antenna towards the largest cluster of towers in your area. You can download our FREE app Antenna Point from iTunes or Google Play or visit our website using the following link to see the towers in your area https://www.antennasdirect.com/transmitter-locator.html. You may need to move the antenna to several locations to find the best reception. Remember to rescan for channels at every location you place the antenna before permanently attaching the antenna to any surface. Greetings! We apologize you have not had a great experience with our Mohu Leaf Amplified HDTV Antenna. All locations and terrains are different. If you are in a more urban area, or at a closer distance to the broadcast towers, there is a good chance you do not need an amplifier. Over-amplification can occur within a shorter distance to the towers and could very well make your reception worse. Please try switching off the amplifier from new antenna and re-scanning for channels to see if this helps. Hello from Mohu! This is purely coincidental. The host port (TV) allows for 500mA per USB port. The amplifier draws a mere 100mA of power per port. The host port from the TV controls all aspects of the power draw. If at anytime the TVs USB port rejects the power the TV will simply turn itself off - nothing more. Hello from Mohu! Considering you are at such a short distance to the broadcast towers, we recommend you try performing a channel scan without the included amplifier. There can be quite a bit of interference when you are too close to the towers while using an amplifier and could very well make your reception worse. BillJ, please give us a call as soon as you can. We can help you get the antenna TV signals. Hopefully you scanned your TV for channels using your TV remote when connecting the new antenna. We do have a free app called Antenna Point you can download to your iOS or Android phone. Once you download, the app will identify your location. You will see the towers in the surrounding area, so you aim the antenna in the right direction to pick up the TV signals.
