One of my first job after starting my it career and running my computer business for a few years was a geek squad agent at Best buy. Back then, customer service was one of their top priorities. Doing right by the customer, serving them well, making them happy and creating repeated customers was our goal. It's been a few decades, and boy have things changed. Now they claim to sell that service for $199 a year and call it TotalTech. It is a complete and total joke. I need three appointments on one day for three different devices that were not working and I needed to get serviced. I want to do things right so I made one ticket for each device. I went into the geek squad, and the agent basically brush me off completely. He didn't touch any of the devices, just said “I can’t help you with that; I can’t help you with that….” He didn't even bother to check the charger for my Surface Book, nor test the charger for my Samsung watch that was failing to charge, (or even try to sell me a replacement charger, which they had in stock.) He just said, we can't help you with that, sorry. I asked what was the point of this TotalTech I paid so much for???? He says, you get 10% off repairs. They charge you $199 a year to get 10% off repairs!!! He also mentioned virus removal, operating system reinstallation. (I was doing that since I graduated high school.) I got the total tech plan for the device protection and service. Something I cannot do, when devices break, and they do often, I want them covered and repaired. This planet is going to waste with all of the electronic waste, and Best buy adds to it in spades. His nonchalant attitude of just throw it away get a new one….. ridiculous! Especially when it came to my 4 month old Samsung Galaxy Fold 4. This is the high-end, flagship, $2,000 phone that folds out into a tablet. Apparently, phone insurances will not cover it because “They break kind of a lot.” the screen stopped working, and I contacted samsung. He told me to take it into best buy, and they would take care of. It is still under warranty. The geek squad agent took one look at the phones hinge, said there was a scuff on it, and refused to help. He said that it voids the Samsung warranty if there’s any kind of scratch or scuff on the device. This is on the hinge mind you, Samsung own cases did not cover the hinge. I looked up Samsung’s terms in their warranty, it says it does not cover wear and tear from normal use, but it does not say it voids the warranty. Regardless, he told me that it would be $599 to fix the screen because of the scuff on the hinge. I looked up and pointed to the sign for a total tech membership behind him, where it says they charge up to $329 for screen repair. He said oh that’s just an estimate. He was extremely rude, and I left very upset. I had three issues I came in with, and he helped with none of them. He was very rude. Later I did research, and wanted to see what the trade in price would be for the phone with a not working screen, versus a working screen. They would only give $125 more for a perfectly working screen, a total of $400 for a $2,000 phone. They want to charge a TotalTech member $599 to replace the screen for a 4 month old device under warranty, but the screen repair is only worth $125 to them in the trade in value. Total tech is a total joke. I spoke to a manager yesterday about this encounter, and he was pretty dismissive about it. He said yeah well we need to make a profit, I said what the hell am I paying the $199 a year for TotalTech for then?

I haven’t had to use the protection yet but what you get rid really well hopefully I won’t have to but I don’t have any doubts and it will be taken care of.
