I have a Total Tech Protection Plan with the Geek Squad and every time I make a purchase at Best Buy it is automatically add to the Protection Plan for a 24 month period. This is a great feature.

Read the terms! Coverage changes based on the typ of product. Phones, computers, TV's, appliances, etc all have different terms! Also, you can only make two claims per year.

Bought a portable Bluetooth speaker (it was on sale), took it back about a month later, had used it a couple times and it stopped charging and would not turn on. Wanted it replaced as it should be under the total tech membership that costs about $200/year. The item had been discontinued and they were unable to replace it with the exact item, the gal at the counter said she could give me my $$ back, but didn’t want to give me my gift card funds back that had been used to purchase it. I said I wanted those funds back as well, so a manager type person came over and asked if I wanted to replace it with a similar new model, which I agreed to. We went over to look at the replacement models. Initially we looked at one that seemed similar in size, performance (and to the original price of the one I had bought), but he said he was mistaken, and then showed me a smaller one that had a much more tinny pitch, that was about $150 less than the original price of the speaker I had purchased, though close to what I had actually paid on sale. I expressed my misgivings regarding the quality and differences in the replacement , but begrudgingly agreed to the exchange. - since then I have gone online to read comparisons, and the larger model is actually considered by most reviewers to be a replacement for mine). However, when I went to the checkout for the exchange, he wanted to charge me extra for the newer (though lesser quality) speaker, at which point I refused, asked for my money back, and said I would spend it elsewhere. Even then they could not show me the receipt demonstrating that my gift card funds would be returned to me. I have tried to support my local stores and Best Buy, but got a lemon and was basically told to suck on it instead of receiving good customer service.
