PROS: 765G processor- fast and responsive. Battery- 2day with moderate use easily. I use my phone heavily and I still end the day with about 40%. I also use my phone on 4G since 5G isn't consistent where I live and that gives me even more battery life. Camera- not the pixel but it's pretty good Software- near stock Android is optimized very well and is light and clean. I don't use Moto services this CONS: Screen- it's beautiful but I'm not a fan of the shadowing the curves have when viewing head on especially on lighter backgrounds. Feel- curved edges makes the phone feel weird to hold especially with a case Updates- I hear this phone will only get one update to Android 11 and none after. That's an issue for me personally.

    Underdog Phone of the Year

This is one FANTASTIC 2020 flagship smartphone. I review a ton of devices and this one really surprised me and frankly blew me away. At $499 on special right now, this phone is a steal and a must buy if you're looking for a 5G ready phone. PROS: Display - The phone feels blazing fast due to the 90hz refresh rate in the display. This is also aided by the fact that the display is a fantastic OLED panel with bright, punchy colors. Use it in dark mode to help save battery. Speakers - I've read many reviews saying these speakers get loud but don't sound fantastic. I totally disagree, as this is the best speaker experience I've had in a phone since using the Pixel 4XL. They're great for watching videos or listening to music. Processor - Going into this, I kind of figured that because the phone has a Snapdragon 765G processor that I would definitely notice some performance lag and issues, especially compared to $1000 phones with the new Snapdragon 865. Boy was I wrong. This phone FLIES, and I can't find any applications that have slowed it down. I'm very impressed with Qualcomm and how far they've come with mid range processors. Cameras - This is where many people have an issue with this phone, but honestly the camera hardware is pretty good here. What's not good is Motorola's implementation of it. They tend to blow out highlights and night shots look pretty grainy. This can ALL be fixed by simply searching Google for the Google Camera APK. I'm currently using the one for the Motorola Edge+ and it works flawlessly. Night shots are incredible and the dynamic range in photos is fantastic. CONS Charging Speed - The phone supports 18W fast charging, which is sufficient and speedy enough, but I can't help but think they could have included 30W fast charging support, especially since they're competing with the OnePlus Nord in this price space. No Wireless Charging - This isn't a real breaker, but it would have been nice to see here. Curved Display - While the display looks beautiful, the curved edges done serve much purpose. Motorola has tried to bake in some software features to make use of it, but they're just so so. Overall, this is my budget flagship champion of 2020 so far, since the OnePlus Nord isn't available stateside yet.

A great device for the price. I had this phone for a while. Just be aware,.you'll want a case and screen protector to avoid cracks to the glass screen. That's ultimately why I no longer have this phone. The screen costs more to repair than the phones is worth.

I got this phone for the "reduced" price of $499 which I think is a fair price for this device. The "normal" price of $699 I think is too much, but thankfully I'm noticing it seems to be on sale for the $499 more often than note, which is wise. As to the device itself, firstly I have NOT had any of the screen issues (purple tinges etc) that many other people have reported, Maybe I'm just very lucky, but I've had the phone for several weeks now and it's been fine. The build quality is very good, it's not quite flagship, it feels quite light, but it's solid and I have no complaints. I find it to be very fast and responsive, I've had no performance issues with it at all. The unique Motorola always-on screen works as well as I remember from my Moto X and Z days, and the camera and flashlight gestures are just killer. I wish every phone had them. The on-display fingerprint sensor is not quite as good as on oneplus devices, but I find it better than on the Samsung 2019 S10 and Note 10 devices. Occasionally it will fail to recognise me, but it works most of the time and I have no complaints. The 5G works well. I previously tested a OnePlus 8 Pro several months ago, and the 5G was an unusable joke in my area, but it works great on this Motorola Edge. Of course, that might just mean that my carrier, T-Mobile, has improved service in the intervening months. Speakers are good, and quite loud - something that's very important to me, and often overlooked, so kudos to Motorola for that! Cameras seem fine. I'm not a big phone photographer, I mainly use the phone camera to capture notes, and other things I need to remember for work, and it's just fine for that. I can't comment on how it compares to flagships like the iPhone, Pixel, S20 etc. It has a headphone jack! Yay! I haven't used it, but I'm very glad it's there. Eliminating the headphone jack is a trend which should never have started. Battery life is great, it easily lasts me all day, and on days of light usage, I've gotten almost 2 days out of it. Finally, the screen. I think the screen is very good, and I haven't had any problems with it, but I have 2 criticisms. 1 - I wish it were a bit brighter in sunlight. A lot of phones have this issue, so maybe that's unfair, but it can be hard to see in bright sunlight, and the adaptive brightness does not deal well with it. I have to turn that off and turn the screen manually to full brightness - even then I wish it got just a little brighter. It's usable, but takes effort. 2 - The edge. It's just a bit too much on this phone. The slope is very steep, a lot more so than on recent Samsung or Oneplus devices. It's just too much sometimes. It's not a deal-killer and I still like the phone a lot, but this phone would be better with a flat screen. ALL phones would be better with flat screens IMO, curved edges are a gimmick that I hope go the way of 3D TVs. Nice idea, bad in practice. I have definitely had accidental touches on this device due to the curve. They do have a neat feature where you can set individual apps to ignore the curve and "squish": narrower on the screen so that they don't flow over the edge as much. This works better with some apps than others, but I've noticed some apps have updated to support it. For example my reddit app, Relay Pro, used to mess up with the Edge feature on this phone, but since a recent update, it now works perfectly. One final point I want to make is about updates. It ships with Android 10, and Motorola I believe have said it will get Android 11, but they have made no commitment to anything beyond that. I hope they reverse that decision because frankly one major update is not acceptable. This is a $700 phone - sometimes a $500 phone - and at either price, ONE major update is not acceptable any more. This kind of customer abandonment in the Android world needs to stop. It's not on. So, despite all the mostly positives I've said about this phone, if you intend to keep it for 2 or more years, I would NOT recommend it. If you are a crazy person like me who is a tech addict and changes phones often, this is not an issue, but for most sane people who keep their phone for 2 or more years, I would say buyer beware. Motorola needs to do better by their customers. They used to be great with updates but have lost their way. I hope they find it, because this is a GREAT phone otherwise, and I'm sad that I have to ding it on update policy.

I have had the edge for about a week now and have been very happy with this purchase. My previous phone was over 3 years old and I decided to get something with 5G that wouldn't cost a fortune. This phone has checked every box for me. It is fast, has a decent display size and graphics, and the battery life seems quite good. It also has a ton of memory, which is always nice to have. I think the new gesture controls work pretty well and are easy to learn and the phone is quite intuitive overall. It also doesn't come with a bunch of pre-installed crap, which I always appreciate. I was able to pop in my SIM card and everything worked right out of the gate (AT&T). If you are looking for something to complain about with this phone, it will probably be the camera. It has a lot of options for types of images you can take, but overall the unedited quality is not going to win any awards and is probably not flagship quality. (I haven't had flagship quality) I really don't mind, as the front facing camera works well and the pictures are good enough for me at this price point. If I want to take any quality pictures, I will still pull out the DSLR for those. I have not tried out any gaming on this phone, but I imagine the edge buttons you can program would work well as the curved edge on the phone is very responsive. Also, the sound quality through the speakers is the best I have ever had on a phone, so maybe I won't feel like I have to use my headphones for everything. Lastly, if you have read this far into my review, you are probably trying to determine if this is "the phone" for you. Based on all of my research before I decided to buy, you will not be able to find another phone on the market that can give you everything this phone can for $500 (As of Aug. 2020). And it has 5G. So I bought it and you should seriously consider buying it, too. (And no I don't get anything for writing this review besides sharing my experience with you)

Great phone they had problems with the screen going black on this model but it was great except that I had one and best buy wouldn't even fix it after 2 weeks of having it they tried to replace it with a cheap phone and I'm still trying to get it all settled it's been 6 months there all about giving you a refurbished phone or a cheaper one and I pay the extra for the membership and they still try and get over on you this manager must get some nice bonuses for keeping his cost down but he sure isn't about customer service that's for sure

Not big on Phone Features, just know what I don't use and need to have in a phone. Unlike the Edge+, this Edge had a Micro SD card slot which is what I needed cause I have the same 256gb card from two phones ago. I avg about 4 years on one phone. All have been Motorola. So so on the curved edge functions, I turned those off. I kept going back on my screens, and moving up and down scrolling when that wasn't my intent. Battery Life is Excellent, but only 15w TurboCharging and no wireless charging....so about an hour and half to charge from 10% to 100%. Although that 100% charge lasts me until well into the next evening without charging and frequent work usage. 90hz refresh screen is fluid and excellent. Currently, there still isn't a lot of aftermarket, or Motorola branded accessories for the phone yet, so I got what I could find from a leather holster that fits for now. Phone comes with a soft TPU case in the box in case of drops. Lots of the specs I read into on this phone before it's release were off, so not sure if these were last minute changes by Motorola. But there is 6gb of Ram, not the initial 4gb, and the internal memory is 256gb not the initial 172 or something that I read. Speaker quality for voice and audio is excellent, sounds like a little Bluetooth Speaker Box. Don't live in a 5g area so haven't tested that, but 4G works great and speed is much faster than my old phone of course. Not much of a phone camera guy, but I know enough to see that the quality isn't even the same as a iPhone 7 Plus w Portrait Mode. There are added cam features, but haven't really tested to its full capacity yet. Overall, excellent mid-budget phone. Colors pop on the screen. Has a headphone jack slot. Android 10 is dope, simple, no clutter, and unlocked has less of those useless preloaded apps. Using it on VZW.

I had a OnePlus 6T that was no longer holding it's charge. First I replaced it with a Moto G Stylus. It was a much slower phone than I was used to having only 4 gig of ram vs my OnePlus' 8. When I saw this one on the Best Buy website, on sale at the time I decided to go for it due to the increase to 6 gig of ram. The time I'd used the Moto G Stylus already convinced me I enjoyed the other offerings Motorola serves - Moto gestures, limited bloat on the OS. And those are here also. I really do enjoy the simple action of the karate chop to launch my flashlight. I was also surprised with the G Stylus and pleased to see continued here that the Moto lines seem to have an agreement of some sort with Google giving them rights only seen on the Pixel line. I was so happy to see the call screen feature baked into the phone app! And also that the default app for photos is Google Photo, which I already use for my photos. I enjoy most everything on this phone. One less than bright spot is the camera. It seems to have bit of delay from the time the button is clicked to when it takes. If your subject moves in all likelihood the final image will look something like a photo in a horror movie demonstrating a curse or demon possession. I loaded a Google camera apk and it takes better pictures but I would still never go head to head with a Pixel phone in the camera department. So if you're a shutterbug I would direct you away from this phone. Aside from that I've had no issues with this phone. Well - it's still hard to find a case for it. I accidentally bought one for the Edge+ which must have been out a while longer? They do seem to slowly be hitting Amazon, I still haven't found any on Best Buy. You do get a thin one with this phone but I would never be comfortable using it long term.

We bought two of these and ran several tests around the Little Rock area. We have T-mobile 5G, Sprint LTE+, and AT&T 5G available here. The Tmobile and Sprint plans were postpaid unlimited plans, and the AT&T plan was the unlimited prepaid plan. First, the speeds. Sprint maxed at 65 Mbps. T-mobile 5G maxed at 80 Mbps. AT&T's 5GE (actually 4GLTE+) maxed at 166 Mbps. AT&T claimed the plan was a 5G plan, but either they are lying about having actual 5G available here, or the phone does not work with it, even though the bands listed cover the 850MHz band AT&T claims to use here. With the 5GE speed though, it doesnt matter to me. It still won out. The phone is easy to use. Software is excellent as all Motorola phones are. I was shocked (really) at how fast this phone is. No lag, just fast. Macro camera works perfectly. Telephoto is so so. Regular camera is good. Had to order a folio case from the UK where this phone has been available for a while, as the cheap plastic "case" it comes with does not leave me with the cozy feeling I could accidentally drop this and get away with it. No waterproofing on this baby either, so dont take a shower with it (yes I know people who do). Get a showerhead speaker for music. So, if you are on T-mobile, go for it. If you are on AT&T, the speed it great but no guarantee yet they will let you use it on their real 5G network. Sprint, well, its going away. Verizon? No clue, never used them since they sent me a phone 10 yrs ago and tried to get me to pay for it, and a two year contract I never ordered. So far, no color issues with the screen. Sound it good and loud.

Recently my old phone had to be replaced, so I researched / compared new phones of multiple brands. What I had before was Motorola. The Motorola moto Edge had all the features I wanted, plus some, and the best storage (256GB, compared to 128GB on most). I had the Motorola moto Edge about a week and it started acting crazy. Best Buy determined it was a faulty device and replaced it. The replacement has worked great ever since. I would recommend this phone, due to: 1) ease of use, and 2) battery life (I usually recharge no more often than every 2 days.)

The phone looks awesome with the curved sides and the waterfall display which is loaded out of the box. After using it, I could not help but find the curved display cumbersome, and not that great when it is already a narrow display. You can adjust the display edges, but that did not help much. There is no wireless charging and its almost impossible to figure that out on line, or in reviews. This was disappointing. A case is supplied which was unusual, but it provided only minimal protection, and definitely not much, if any drop protection. Because of the curved edges, I can see the display being very fragile. Downloading music took some on line searching as it required changing the setting for the USB port. Entire body is a fingerprint magnet. Phone is responsive, and feel is good. Camera was ok. It seemed over color saturated. Fingerprint scanner under the screen worked well. and battery life has been amazing. Wish it had wireless charging, a wider screen, and a body less prone to finger prints. This phone is almost excellent but definitely not.

So far the phone has worked well. No screen issues as others mentioned. Its a bit getting used to gestures to navigate. I got this because it still got SD card option. The Samsung s21 does not have SD card, It relies on the cloud. I can't stand that. I wish they had a separate volume for notifications, they lumped it together with the ringtone which is dumb. There is no drop down from top of screen to silence the phone, you have to use the side buttons and then silent. The edge notifications work only when you get the notification, then they dont flash anymore. I wish they would flash every so often to remind you that there is a message waiting. They dont. Also, when I first got it, it was working on 4G. Battery would last two days and then some. Now, it forced itself to 5G and the battery lasts only 1 day. 5G is the worst. No difference as far as I can tell. There are no Motorola native applications such as calendar, mail, notes, photo album, etc. Its all Google. So most of everything you enter will go to the cloud. Photos you can control to not sync, but the others I dont know. Camera is not the best, but good enough. Its not water proof, I think its water resistant. So forget about nice in the pool pictures. The only reason I got it its because Best Buy would not honor my grandfathered plan or did not have the option to keep my current plan. Else I would have gotten the S20. S20 is far superior to the S21. Overall, I like this phone for now. It is what it is, a lower cost alternative to overpriced, carrier locked, over bloated with apps phones.

Picked it up this morning on release date, unlocked. This phone is fantastic, the edge controls are unique and a refreshing experience. There is no navigation bar anymore, it's all gesture control. But after spending a few minutes with it it feels so natural and fluid. The screen is so bright, and it can dim very low when needed. The 90hz refresh rate is definitely noticeable and makes everything so smooth. Colors pop and the size of the screen is perfect. I was skeptical as it is more narrow than the 16:9 moto x4 aspect ratio I've appreciated for years. But it's growing on me, and I already am hooked. The battery is huge, and the personalization options are limitless. Change fonts, change accent colors of quick settings icons. It's like motorola integrated with nova launcher. This thing is perfect.

First and foremost, the call quality and battery life with this phone has been excellent. I've been able to get a full day's worth of battery easily with this phone, and reception has been great on LTE with AT&T, and I was able to get 5G coverage as well test driving Mint Mobile (T-Mobile MVNO) no problem. Of course YMMV when it comes to reception in your area, but the phone will certainly not be a limiting factor for that. The screen with its curved edge display is beautiful to use and view, although it can be slightly fiddly when it comes to certain swipe gestures close to the screen edge; but nothing major that can't be learned in a couple of days. The SD card expandable storage is nice, and the built in FM radio is a nice plus that's missing from a lot of phones these days. The cameras on this phone are pretty good too, just don't expect to crank out any award winning photos with it. Overall though if you can get this phone for a good price, I definitely recommend it!

A mediocre 5G android phone. Poorest camera for the class - picture quality is inferior and blurry. Navigation through open apps is really difficult - the same for browser - and this is why it is not a happy pirchase. Auto-rotate distorts picture quality and it's visibly bothersome. Charge last around 18 hours. Performance-wise it's worth the money and sleek design is a plus for the phone.
