    Good Phone for the price

This is a good smart phone. Havent seen any major problems. Over the last six months I have seen some lag in some applications and some reduction in performance. This could be an android artifact. The camera is 'meh'. you couldnt expect a lot from these phone cameras at this price point.

    Started well but failed

I bought this phone in January 2018 and it worked well for a while , but now it breaks up on phone calls and takes forever to start a call if it is able to make a call at all. It is very undependable. I went back to using my previous phone ( a LG G4 that used up a battery too quickly) and it worked perfectly so it is the phone not the network.

Hi lester, This is rare. Let me further assist you. Does this happen to all locations? Does this happen to a specific contact? Does this happen with the Enhanced 4G LTE mode on? If yes, It would be best to contact your carrier to open a network ticket to check their service. -Jess MotorolaMobility

    Worst phone I've ever had

I bought this phone from Best Buy 10 weeks ago after having a previous Motorola for 4 years followed by a Huawei while living in Asia for another 3 years. As Huawei phones are frowned upon here in the US, I thought I could count on what I thought was a dependable brand for my new phone. I could not be more disappointed in this product and regard it as a complete waste of money. I travel frequently and find that this phone rarely connects to any public WiFi, from Asia to Europe to America, from hotels to cafes to airports. Fortunately I have unlimited data, but beware if you don't, and this will eventually slow mine down which is a pain. I generally use the phone for texting, calls, and emails, and rarely use apps besides streaming music on Spotify. This phone is phenomenally slow regardless and crashes several times a day despite theoretically having lots of storage space available. The touch screen has stopped working in parts for no apparent reason as I haven't damaged it whatsoever - it's in a very sturdy case and I haven't dropped it yet. The camera also freezes regularly, and given the issue with connecting to WiFi and dropping the internet connection, I cannot count on my photos being saved to Google anyway. The keyboard is sluggish particularly when trying to use any emojis or gifs - good luck if you want to use more than one - and overall I think this is a very poor product. It is a real shame Huawei isn't allowed by American carriers as their phones are vastly superior, but even compared to my old Motorola from years ago, this one is a brick. I wish I could get my money back as I can't sell this on in good conscience knowing how terrible it is. I really don't recommend this phone at all and am disappointed in Motorola for such a subpar product.

Hi Morgan, thanks for reaching out and we understand how you feel. Let me provide some basic troubleshooting that can resolve this concern. For the slow performance issue, sometimes caused by too many running apps in the background, use your recent apps button to close apps you are no longer using. You may also need to check your internal memory, When the internal memory of the phone is full or almost full, you may experience a sluggish user interface, latency when switching menus, or in some cases the display freezing or reboot which is already happening on the device. It is also a good practice to restart the device periodically (at least every 48 hours) to clear out buffers and memory that may lead to intermittent issues. You can also try to boot the device in Safe Mode and observe. To boot into Safe mode, press the physical power key, touch and hold Power off, touch OK when Reboot to Safe mode appears. If it works fine while in Safe modes, then it's possible that a 3rd party app is a culprit. Try removing some recently downloaded apps and see if it helps. Let me know how it goes. -Mike MotorolaMobility

    SIM Card stuck

I bought a MotoG5 Plus for myself Sept 2017. I thought it was a decent phone for the price; easy to use. Dec 2017, my mom needed a new cell and I bought one for her (Christmas). 3 weeks ago, her phone would not get out of airplane mode. She then switched back to her old cell. I convinced her to do a factory reset thinking that would clear out any issues. The reset went fine, but when the SIM card was added back into the phone, it fell into the phone and got stuck. I took it to Best Buy - no help there. They said they don't have the tools (even said Geek Squad couldnt help) and made the comment that "yeah, it's pretty stuck"..smh. I took it to a local repair shop and they wouldn't touch it as you basically have to destroy the phone to get where the SIM card fell. So basically, this is a $230 paper weight. My mom ended up getting a new SIM from Verizon but not all her photos etc where backed up before this happened. Thanks Motorola/Lenovo! From what I've seen online, the SIM card issue is one of the top 3 complaints/issues. I feel it's a severe design flaw. On my own phone it took many tries to properly seat the SIM card. I almost gave up after the 6th try. My (and my moms) next cell will never be a Motorola. It's back to Samsung for me!

Hi tracy8989, this is very odd. I understand how you feel. Let me help. Can you tell us what happened prior to this? Was the phone dropped? Or is there any force applied when trying to insert the sim? Do you see any damage on the Sim Card tray that might contribute to the issue? You could also send us the phone for evaluation thru this link: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/mcp/service/. However, just a reminder, if the device is out of warranty or has physical damage, fees are included along with the replacement. You will be notified if that is the case. You could also update us by sending an email to [email protected]. -Jhei MotorolaMobility

Not bad if you do not need customization of alerts

It's a decent phone and should work for the average person who does not need the customization of notifications and alerts. however, coming from a Samsung Galaxy, there were a number of things that were available on the Samsung but not available on the G5S. e.g., Customizing Notifications and Alerts for individual contacts, reminder alerts , customizing if you wanted alerts to interrupt your phone call or not, screen sharing, etc.

Hi, we understand how you feel. As a near stock android device, features may be different compared to devices with customized features. Our advantage is that you may only select the apps/features you need which saves you storage and memory. The Moto G5s Plus has a customizable alert/ring tones https://goo.gl/L4TWQ1 however for individual contacts, you will need to check on playstore if there's an app which has that feature. Thanks -Erwin MotorolaMobility

    Garbage

I got this phone as I have had multiple Moto Gs before and have not been let down starting with the 2nd gen years ago. I have to say this thing is a nightmare. Even on full bar 4G LTE it runs super slow I have had 65 dollar Walmart phones do a much better job overall. It seems as though its 2G on AT&T and TMobile. Social media apps such as Instagram and Snapchat shut off at random from 5-10 minutes on snap and 20-30 on Instagram just says it stopped running and it happens every day. I had the Moto G3 and say it is far better even in preformance even though it's aged technology for some reason. Absolutely trash of a phone and I advise people to stay away from this. camera is subpar as well in a big way
