Economical, but not sure it's worth it.

After getting sticker shock on the price of new flagship phones, and the fact that my old flagship no longer held a charge through a day, I thought the Moto G7 Power was just what I needed. I now realize that while it is decent, you do get what you pay for. The battery life is great - truly in a category all to itself. The extra size and weight is not really noticeable. Since it was only $200, I didn't outfit it with a case. It has worked with all the Android apps I used on my old phone. However, there are a few negatives, one of which may be a deal breaker. 1) I never appreciated that good cameras are expensive. I assumed my brand new budget phone camera would be superior to the camera on my three year old S7. Not so at all. I thought picture quality would be okay since I'm not a shutterbug, but it is just not great. Indoor shots with less than strong lighting makes the pictures subject to a lot of blur. Even with sufficient light, pictures don't pop as they do in a pricier phone. 2) UI "wierdness". The other thing missing from this non-flagship phone is a polished interface. By that I mean settings are not conceptually intuitive and presented cohesively, IMO. Do Not Disturb settings span across several submenus... Do they override each other? You can shake the phone to enable the flashlight, but you can't shake it again to turn it back off- gotta go through the settings. Enable fingerprint works, but then every couple days, it only accepts a password. The screen blinks soft white and back off during bedtime... Was this from a new email? Wifi reconnecting? or some other event, I'll never know. Once you create a timer, you can only stop, start or reset it. To change it, you have to create a new one. 3) VZW mobile network speed. This is the deal breaker. The phone works at a small fraction of the mobile network speeds of my old phone. 1 Mbps download and 0.02 up. It's really bad when not connected to Wifi. Many owners have had this problem and neither Verizon or Moto (actually Lenovo now) seem to have it figured out.

    Major Wifi Issue

Although I was expecting the 4g Verizon issue that has been mentioned a few times, I did not have that issue. I am using Total Wireless on Verizon and 4g data and calling works without any issues. The phone itself is decent. Huge battery is a plus. The issue I am having, which seems other users have seen is with the phones wifi. Using my 2.4ghz wifi network the phone barely connects to any apps with video. It seems to be dramatically slower than the mobile data connection. It seems when I switched to my 5ghz wifi network, it works perfect. Apps run very fast. Unfortunately most places are 2.4ghz wifi. There is some users noticing the issue on the Motorola forums. I hope Motorola can solve the issue ASAP or many users will start complaining.

Hi teddyc, thanks for having one of our phones. Can you please elaborate what apps are you having problems with when connecting to Wi-Fi? That's right, 5ghz Wi-Fi network will work faster than the 2.4ghz. You may send us an email to [email protected] referring to this post. Outstanding Phone Value

I purchased this phone last weekend for my granddaughter, replacing her broken cell phone. She loves it. It is really a good looking phone and the size is perfect for her. The screen color/brightness is very good and it is quite responsive. We did put a screen protector and good case on it immediately, unfortunately Best Buy carried neither. I have a more expensive cell phone and I cannot see any difference in performance, feel or screen. I think this was (is) a very good value for her.

Extremely slippery buy a case or crack your screen

This phone is extremely slippery it will slip out of your hand. Buy a case for it because the screen cracks easily. It is poorly built but runs fine. Just invest in a screen protector and case as soon as you can or you will be buying another phone months after you buy it like I am. Also DO NOT BUY THE GEEK SQUAD PROTECTION. It's a waste of your time and money. They take your money and take your money with terrible customer service options. The cost to replace your phone is more than it would be to buy another one. so to repeat DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THEIR WARRANTIES OR GEEK SQUAD PROTECTION. Best Buy is fine to purchase items but sucks at replacing them it will cost you more than it's worth.

    Poor antenna, drops calls

The g7 power has great battery life and that's it. It will constantly drop calls and gets poor reception. I sent my first back thinking I got a bad phone, 2nd came and same problem now awaiting 3rd, had to buy a cheap phone to use in the meantime. They try to make you change settings and reset and it comes down to they just just used a cheap antenna configuration period. Save yourself some grief and get something else, it is sad that I have to use a cheap $20.00 phone because Motorola dropped the ball. I even tried for a refund and they won't do that, just keep sending me a phone that will not work.

I bought a moto x4 32gb brand new here at best buy, but after a year the USB data transfer just stop to work. I used the cable that comes with I installed all drivers and I did a lot of serch to figure out, but nothing happened. Then I bought a moto g7 power 32gb and the same thing happened... Good device, good performance. But this is what happens with Motorola phone. USB data transfer stop to work after a couple of months... And my brother bought a g7 64gb plus water resistant after 5 months the phone died completely with an accident of water

    Constantly drops calls

I bought this brand new 2 months ago and it worked great until a couple of weeks ago. This phone chronically drops calls no matter what time of day, who is calling, or what carriers they call from. I bought the phone unlocked and am using on Sprint and I've never had any trouble with any other phone from makers like LG, Samsung, etc. The internet and apps work great but it drops calls constantly now and Best Buy's return period is only 14 days so I'm stuck with a phone that can't hold calls. So much for saving money.

    DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I can't believe there are people giving this phone 4 or 5 stars. I just bought the Moto G7 Power this past Tuesday night. Could not get it to connect with Internet. Brought it back to the store yesterday. They changed the SIM card--no change. They took out another Moto G7 Power. That one wouldn't connect either. Two store employees worked on it for 3 1/2 hours, talking with my phone account provider. No change. I was told a "2nd Tier" rep from my phone service (well known name brand) would call today, and he did. Spent another 1-1/2 hours. He tried everything; told me the problem wasn't on his end. Problem with the phone. I called Motorola tech service and explained problem. The woman assured me the answer was to do a factory reset. Didn't sound like a solution to me. I said that I didn't want to lose my contacts, pictures, etc. She said don't worry, it's all saved on Google. I checked. I told her the file was 0 bytes. She said don't worry, we'll save it all now. We tried saving. I had my doubts but stupidly went ahead with the reset. Everything wiped out--nothing saved on Google; not pictures no contacts no nothing. And guess what, after the reset the phone new problems along with the old ones. No I can't get anything on it to work properly. By the way, I owned a Moto G before and liked it, just so you know I'm not some anti-Motorola nut. In fact, that's why I opted for G7 I've owned Motorolas going back to the 90s. Motorola basically invented the cellphone. Please believe me--but this phone and you'll regret it. You know what--you don't have to believe me--just check the complaints that are coming in on Internet forums. Keep in mind, this phone's been out only about 3 weeks!

I spoke to both T Mobile and Motorola. The present version of the Moto G7 Power cannot get data from the T Mobile network. So, if you live or work in the NYC area you are buying a phone with no data! i had to return mine to Motorola. Their website says they are compatible with T Mobile even when they know they are not!

    No 4G on Verizon

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I just purchased this phone yesterday. I pulled the sim out of my Nexus 6P and put it in the Moto G7 Power and only got 3G. When I contacted Motorola tech support they said I needed a new sim card. I went to a Verizon corporate store to get one and they couldn't even get it beyond 3G after a new sim and some troubleshooting. I just got off the phone with Verizon 2nd tier tech support and they said the Moto G7 Power isn't supported yet. Someone else on the Verizon community forums was complaining of the same thing. The phone is going back to Best Buy.

    Terrible Functionality

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased this phone back in March of 2019 in order to replace my previous Motorola G4+. I was looking forward to a large upgrade and I was happy initially with the phone though now months later I have had to have it replaced by Motorola and am still left with a barely functioning device. It has a tendency to turn off by itself and also has trouble running many applications and will freeze up constantly. I would not recommend this product to anyone looking for a good phone.
