Customers are saying

Customers highly value the Moto X (4th Generation) for its excellent camera, affordable price, and long battery life. Many users appreciate that it is unlocked, waterproof, and easy to use. However, some customers have concerns about its limited internal storage, durability issues after extended use, and speaker volume.

    Horrible

This phone is a huge disappointment. I bought it to replace a failing Moto G4 and ended up returning it. The screen is absolutely horrible the color saturation is so high you can't distinguish between orange and red. You can turn off the vibrant colors in the settings, but then everything is so washed out it has a white cast. The phone was also much slower than my G4 and it is not able to format an SD card as internal storage so you can't install apps on an SD card. Definitely worth the restocking fee.

Purchased on September 3, had to replace on September 15th because it shut itself off for no apparent reason and would not turn back on. Got new phone September 15th same thing happened on October 31st. Got phone replaced, and same thing happened December 17th.

I've had this phone just over four and a half hours and already I want to return it to the store. Despite what I was told, you cannot format the SD card on this hone as internal storage. Seems it uses a different sort of file system than SD cards can handle. This really is not an upgrade for the Moto series. Rather, it's a giant step backwards!

Hi, sorry you are disappointed. Yes, the system can only format the SD card as portable storage but if files are managed properly you will not have issues with the storage. We recommend saving multimedia files to the SD card and apps to the internal. Thanks -Erwin MotorolaMobility

    Good phone with excellent features

Great features and feel, excellent mid-ranger. Got this as a replacement for Honor 8 which is a great phone as well except the software interface. Was always fan of moto features voice, gestures, ambient display etc. Since it is a 5.2 " screen it fits well in the hand, great for someone who doesn't like large phones. The build is premium all glass covering metal. Display is just fine 1080p LCD, previous moto x first gen were AMOLED which display deep blacks better. This phone has good decent 630 snapdragon processor, opens apps quickly but not as good as moto x 1st/2nd gen or pixel/nexus phones buttery smooth feel. IP68 rated, has FM radio, WIFI AC features that is better than Moto Z play or Moto G series. Camera is above average, but good in decent lighting may get better with software updates. Battery is great getting 6-7 Screen on time, audio from one front facing top speaker is decent. Charging is quick, but adapter is only 15 W should have been 18W or greater. Phone should have been priced $ 350 or under since Motorola (now Lenovo) is bad with software updates and fixing issues. I think for the extra price, this is a better phone than Moto G5 series which lack NFC, outdated wifi tech, no magnetometer (for compass) and have no IP68 rating and older snapdragon processor and camera set up. It has a headphone jack and microsd!

    Great phone, but VERY SLIPPERY

I got my phone via Google's Project Fi. I've owned the phone for about 45 days, and I like everything about it. This phone replaced my faulty, terrible Nexus 5x. I play a lot of games, do a lot of browsing and email checking, and this phone doesn't suffer from the noticeable heat generation that the Nexus 5x did. I have a lot more confidence in the longevity of this phone when it comes to hardware. The ONLY problem I have with it, is that the phone is mostly encased in glass which makes it VERY slippery. I had a few close calls with dropping it where it survived with a slight surface scratch. It finally broke for real, when it was in my jeans pocket and wormed its way out as I was getting out of the car, landing camera-side-down and shattering the glass over the lens. Not even a few days later, the same thing happened as I was walking to work and cracked the screen. DEFINITELY GET A CASE WITH SOME GRIP, AND A SCREEN PROTECTOR. I would have gotten one as soon as I ordered the phone, but it had literally just come out the day before and there were no cases available on the market yet at all. I like the phone enough that I sprung for the $200 replacement from Motorola though (and this time I have a case and screen protector waiting for it when it arrives).

Works well, Slippery get a case as back is glass also, I get 2 days out of battery after break in with medium usage, nice fast charging, Water Proof but don't go swimming as water proof isn't guaranteed but will help with salt at beach and rain, NFC, the speaker is OK 3 mics [other moto phones have 2 mic speaker which is too small]. Seems this will be the last X Phone, as I've seen that Motorola isn't making a 5th Gen, too bad. I would buy again, and am looking for a backup one when they go on sale again. pickup on sale for 27x.xx new BASICALLY, YOU NEED TO ASK YOURSELF IF YOU REALLY NEED A MORE ADVANCED PHONE FOR TWICE THE PRICE

I have to say that this is one of the better phones I have had in a while. I have owned nexuses, galaxies, some htc's and some lg's, and this phone has really what I was looking for. 1st moto actions are intuitive and useful, 2nd the build quality matches phones twice the price, 3rd the software is barebone pure Android with some minor tweaks from Motorola and it works smoothly with no lag or stutter. 4th the camera is good with some useful features, maybe it cannot match the cameras on the most expensive flagships handsets but the photos that I have taken looks good with a lot details. Last but not least, the performance in the Sprint network have been great and even I am able to use HD voice during my calls with other Sprint subscribers. For $400 this phone has a lot to offer and I can say I am extremely satisfied with my purchase. Great job Motorola!

Excellent Value for a more than adequate phone

After having purchased flag ship phones for years, I was not impressed with the current phones because of the prices. After doing research, I happened onto the Moto X4. I purchased the phone on October 29, 3 days after it was released. I have not been able to find anything about the phone that I don't like. It is light weight, has a metal case with IP68 rating. It fits in my hand and does everything I expect my phone to do with fast response. If you want an excellent phone, but don't want to pay flagship prices, this phone might just be perfect for you too. I would add that while it is fast, it was not designed to do the latest, greatest 3 D games and the camera, while more than adequate for most people, does not measure up to the latest greatest flag ship models. It's just a great phone at a great price.

Was having some battery issues with my Moto Z-Force Android phone in year three, so decided to look for an upgrade. The $49 Moto X4 32GB looks pretty appealing.. then they hit you with the activation fee and Verizon hits you with the $40 upgrade fee you've got a hundred bucks in extra charges.. still not a bad deal for $149.. it's paid for. Now I'm month to month on Verizon, with a phone bill around $60 bucks. The phone itself is excellent so far up to par with the previous Moto x offerings.. very slick glass case, but haven't dropped it yet seems to have good purchase. Comes with Gorilla glass, so probably won't crack it anyway. Updated to Android 9.0 and enjoying the new features. If you get as agitated as me, paying $700+ bucks for one of these new smart phones then this is the way to go for you for sure. Best Buy was easy to work with through out, and Verizon was a joy to work with this time.. not always the case with them. I'm happy

Good looking phone, has Moto Key feature (thumbs up for it) but: a - too heavy (as heavy as Moto Z Play which is bigger phone with bigger battery, ????) b - mediocre cam (my old Moto X2 makes better photos) c - doesn't stand up in the crowd like my 2014 Moto X2...... can't read my notifications (Moto voice on 2014 phone understands What's up command, this one does not), can't be unlocked with my voice, smart lock doesn't really work as advertised, approach for Moto display works only 50% of time (2014 phone still works perfectly fine), once you get used to it you don't want to settle for less d - forget about Motorola customer support, completely useless and annoying Since this is not an upgrade but a downgrade for me, Best Buy I'm coming your way in 2 days to return it.

I got this phone as a backup phone waiting to get my phone on order.. To put it simply... I canceled my order and am keeping this as my main phone. Best buy doesn't even want to sell it...they don't even have a display model out to look at... but let me tell you that the batterly life if good, it charges quickly, it feels well built, it is nimble even after installing 110 apps on it. The fingerprint scanner is quick, to say that i like it wouldn't express my true feelings... I LOVE IT... I like it better than the z2 force that i tried. MOTOROLA you have a HIT on your hands here. I would say it competes right up there with the iphone/s7/ ect.
