Fun phone, but build quality issues hold it back.

The Moto Razr Ultra is a fine phone. Not amazing, not bad. Just fine. The first unit I bought head a whole bunch of dead pixels near the left side of the hinge, not exactly instilling confidence in the product on the whole. Moto thankfully only lightly skins Android, and we have a mostly stock experience here. The apps leave a little to be desired in some cases. Moto AI is awful right now, a hodge-podge of several different AI platforms that is designed to give you the best of each, but winds up a cluttered mess. You're best to just ignore the (non-remappable) AI button and use a single AI like Gemini.
The outside screen is fun, and i like that Moto made some thoughtful additions like the little minigames and the fact that you can basically use any app. Some fun folding/outside screen possibilities that will likely end up going nowhere due to lack of dev support. Unfortunately once the novelty wears off we're left with a phone that for all intents and purposes is just okay. That and the display on the inside, like all other folding displays, is more fragile than thin sugar glass. So you will likely be constantly worried about touching it too much (especially if someone else grabs it, like a friend who wants to play around with it). Avoid this phone at all costs if you have longer fingernails too. You're essentially guaranteed to scratch the [out of the box screen-protected-] display.
The positives just manage to outweigh the negatives, and if you're up for living on the bleeding edge then you might enjoy this product. I returned it due to the high price and constant fear that i would scratch or mess up the internal display, and also because the dead pixels on the first unit didnt instill confidence in the overall build quality.
Hi AnthonyE, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed experience. We appreciate your honest feedback and we're sorry to hear that the phone did not fully meet your expectations. We understand how concerns about build quality, especially with dead pixels and display fragility impact your confidence in the product. We’re glad to hear you enjoyed some aspects of the phone, such as the clean Android experience, the flexibility of the external display, and the unique form factor. At the same time, we recognize your concerns regarding the durability of the folding screen, Moto AI integration, and overall value. Your feedback is important to us, as it helps guide improvements in both our hardware and software. We're committed to learning from customer experiences like yours to continue refining our products. fast processing, light and easy to handle once you get used to the flipping and closed phone front screen. Front screen gets blocked by cameras when browsing web or using apps, but you can flip it upside down.
Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback, StephyVW. We’re glad to hear you’re enjoying the fast performance and lightweight design, and that it becomes easy to use once you’re familiar with the flip and front display. We also appreciate you pointing out how you’ve adapted to the front screen layout. I got this phone as a birthday present for myself, and I've been loving it ever since! The battery life is so good for a flip phone that I haven't had to worry about charging it throughout the day, and the external screen makes using the phone a breeze when it's closed. Not to mention the nice, smooth, 165hz displays on both the inside and outside.
The camera also takes incredibly good photos for the hardware it's packing, although the processing could use some work. But that's not something I've been worried about since I've started using it.
My only complaint with it is the durability concerns, but that's to be expected with any flip or fold style phones. All in all, I highly recommend the Razr Ultra over any currently available flip style phones!

Excellent flip phone, rounded edges on the body make it so much better in the hand than the Galaxy Flip. Unsure if this phone will outlast my Z flip at this time. $1,300 is a lot for a phone that will likely break. Get the extended warranty.

Great phone! Interior and exterior screens work great! I'm able to do so much with the exterior screen. It's processing speed is really fast. The camera's, 50MP on all 3 cameras are all high quality! And the sound it makes when you close the phone? *Chef's kiss*
I would recommend this to a friend

Coming from an iPhone 14 plus and my world has opened up. It's clear that iPhone is no longer the front runner on smart phones.

An Excellent phone, very compact when it's closed and larger than most phones when it's open. The battery life lasts me all day with heavy use and the cameras are pretty good as well

This is my 2nd review in 2 weeks, since i bought it. I enjoy all features except one (so far i'm still exploring). I like to arrange my screen folders for ease of finding quickly when i open it up. I can't find a way to move the folders. I've read the help instructions but it doesn't work (press the folder and move it). But so far i strongly recommend
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and for recommending your phone, RodS. We’re glad to hear you’re enjoying most of the features. Regarding moving folders on your home screen, sometimes it may take a long press on the folder until it “lifts,” then drag it to your preferred location. If this doesn’t work, you can try restarting the phone. If you still need assistance or should there be any further inquiries, please do not hesitate to email us at [email protected]. We'll be happy to assist you. -Mitch

The phone itself is cool, seems to have degraded reception sometimes and the screen will very easily mute during calls when you have the phone to your face. Luckily the speaker and Bluetooth settings help when the phone is closed on call.
This phone struggles with phone case support. The gimmicky blackberry esque keyboard isn't worth the effort imo but it does have shortcuts to apps which is convenient if you like the larger phone profile. (I didn't)
Hi Trevor, Thank you for your detailed feedback. We’re sorry to hear about the reception issues and screen muting during calls, and we appreciate you sharing your workarounds using the speaker and Bluetooth options. We understand your concerns about phone case compatibility and the keyboard feature not meeting your expectations. Your input is valuable and will be shared with our product team to help improve future designs.
