Legitimate Effort from my All-Time Favorite Band
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a surprisingly solid effort for a group coming off a 23 year hiatus. I don't think the impact that the rest of the group has on Ric Ocasek's songs can be overstated here. He's had an ongoing solo career for two decades that has seen him deliver catchy riffs and fleeting moments, but nothing hat compares to this effort that was delivered with the remaining members from the original lineup. There is a real chemistry here, and I found myself smiling through many of the tracks. Aside from "Drag On Forever" which literally does seem to live up to it's title, the rest of the tracks (both rockers and ballads) generally hit the mark and evoke back to the time when the Cars were selling out arenas on their Heartbeat City tour. Another interesting tidbit here is that the Cars seem to be planning on touring as a quartet rather than replacing the late Ben Orr on vocals and Bass. This certainly will make for some interesting arrangements in their live tour. I'll be attending their Minneapolis show at First Avenue, and am truly interested to hear their take on the new material, as well as the classic material. I was genuinely glad to hear of their return, and the album did not disappoint!

Great music, dissapointing package
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the Cars and it is great to have them back together after all of these years. The music is great and sounds like their old stuff. I just wish new CDs nowadays didn't come in such poor cardboard packaging. It can get damaged easier than the nice jewel cases. All in all I love it and the music is the most important part of the package. I don't like buying digitally, I like to actually have a CD of my music but man I wish they would stop making these eco-friendly cases. If you like the Cars get this record at Best Buy because you get 3 bonus tracks and 2 free videos, and a collectible laminate -skullcrusher94

Cars Shift Back into Gear
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off 24 years is a long time for any band to not be playing together.. How these guys just jump back into the swing of things and do so with an easy style is beyond me. Hi-lights are the power chord gem "Keep on Knocking" with the only true Elliot Easton guitar solo on the album. The ballad "Soon" which could have been a classic had it been sung by the late Ben Orr, but hey Ric Ocasek does it fine. BUY the bonus disc which has two new demo's not released on the regular disc, the one song "Rocket USA" is worth the extra 2 dollars. Its kind of a techo dance beat over which someone, not sure it is Ocasek that keeps repeating "It's Doomsday, its doomsday" over and over. It seems the guys try to stretch out a bit, without losing who they were and pull it off handsomely. Buy and enjoy. Let the good times roll.

Good album
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This album is good music for a group that hasn"t had one in 24 yrs., but there is one flaw. DON'T expect the two (2) videos because you are not going to get it.This is just a AUDIO CD,you get 10 tracks+3 bonus tracks and thats it. Even the back cover says their 2 videos but there is none.
