Great Laptop for CAD
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the first laptop I have bought in almost 10 years so I feel like I am learning PC for the first again. I usually use my wife's macbook pro and love how fast and responsive that machine is. I thought all PC's were slow and frustrating to use, that is until I got this one. I should also mention that this is the first PC I have bought in this price range. This laptop exceeds my expectations of what a windows based computer is. It is very fast for what I need, very sleek and nice looking on the outside and the screen is nice too. I am not a PC gamer so I like how it doesn't look like a "gamer" laptop from the outside. I still can't get over how thin and light this thing is! The RGB keyboard is really fun to watch and my kids definitely like to watch it change colors but for me personally its a little distracting so one of the first things I did was disable the light. I might turn it on for doing work at night or in dimly lit room, but I haven't used the laptop in those environments yet. My primary use for a computer like this is that I am a CAD designer student and I couldn't run any of the programs I am learning on my old computer. For what I need this thing is perfect. I haven't had a chance to play any games on it yet but I am sure this thing could run just about any game on any setting. Again I haven't had a chance to test that yet. Some people have said the fans get loud and it runs a little hot, I have yet to encounter that. I think most computers get a little loud when running multiple things anyway. Overall this is a great laptop for anyone who needs a little more power than the cheaper priced laptops. I haven't tested out the battery life yet (but there are youtube vids that have) but just about everything else is great. I think it is an especially great value for a student who may not have 2-3000 to spend on a top tier gaming laptop but still wants to be able to play all the current games and programs.

Good for editing too
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Even though this is a gaming laptop we use it primarily for video and photo editing and we found it cheaper than any of the other non gaming laptops with comparable specs.

Great for casual gaming and school
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: -Performance: The configuration I have has an i7 8750H and a Nvidia 1070 Max-Q. As expected with these specs, the performance of this laptop is amazing. Gaming is very enjoyable and I never see my framerate drop below 100 fps on high settings. (I’ve played League, Overwatch, War Thunder, and a couple other Steam games on this so far.) -Thermals: The laptop does get warm during gaming, but not overly so. MSI’s dragon center allows for adjustment of fan speeds among other things. I usually keep the fan speed on auto for normal use, but during gaming I switch to Advanced or Cooler Boost. These settings run the fans at higher speeds, but cool down the laptop very quickly. During day-to-day use, I rarely if ever hear the fans. However during gaming, the fans do get quite loud so I recommend using a pair of headphones. I’ve heard undervolting can lower temperatures by around 10 degrees and it may be something I’ll try at some point. -Trackpad/Keyboard: I really like both the trackpad and the keyboard on this laptop. The keyboard has per-key RGB backlighting which is a nice touch. The actuation force of 170g is slightly harder than the average keyboard, something I find makes for a very satisfying typing experience. The layout is also very good. The trackpad has a great surface and the mechanism is very clicky. There are no stutters when using it. -Speakers: I’m not an audiophile, but the speakers sound really good to me. -Battery Life: Battery life is around 6.5-7 hours. -Size/Weight: This laptop is very light and compact for the performance it is able to deliver. The build quality is also very good, I haven’t noticed any flex on the chassis. Cons: -Software: As mentioned earlier, I’ve encountered two main software issues with this laptop. The first has to do with the audio drivers. The problem I encountered was that I couldn’t hear any audio through the speakers, but I could through headphones plugged into the headphone jack. As I understand it, MSI uses two different audio drivers: Nahemic and Realtek. In order for the audio to work, both drivers have to be at compatible versions. The issue arises when Windows 10 auto-updates drivers and only one of the audio drivers gets updated. When this happens, the speakers stop working. This is easy to fix by downloading a compatible version of the drivers from MSI’s website and uninstalling the update to the compatible version. The second software issue I encountered was with Nvidia Optimus. Nvidia Optimus switches between the integrated graphics card and the dedicated graphics card depending on the graphical load that the computer is under. The problem was that the computer would randomly switch between the integrated and dedicated card regardless of the load on the computer. This resulted in random 1-second freezes that occurred all the time, from scrolling through a webpage to playing games. After looking online, this appears to be a somewhat common issue and the fix that I have found is just to manually switch between the two cards. I normally select the integrated card for daily use because it is more than sufficient for web-browsing and word processing and it preserves battery life. (7+ hours) When I play games or do something graphically intensive, I obviously switch to the dedicated card. Battery life does decrease though. (3-4 hours)

Great graphics but sound and screen is not so grea
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall I dont really feel great with this purchase for $1500.00. Years ago I bought an alienware (very bulky) but from graphics, sound, screen, and performance was mind blowing. This msi gaming laptop though doesnt live up to my previous laptop (alienware). The graphics on the msi gaming laptop are great, but that's the only plus that I can say based on the gaming. The negatives 2 big ones in my opinion... FIrst negative is that the sound is so weak. I am at 100% volume, but the speakers cant put out the volume I expected from a gaming laptop. It's forcing me to want to plug in my gaming headset. Same problem while watching Netflix or other video streaming apps. Second problem is that the screen is dark and not as bright as I would expect from a 1500 gaming laptop. I'm watching Netflix shows and the video doesnt pop out with bright clarity as I expected it should be. I checked the settings and the settings are fine, the screen is just weak. In the end, this is an LESS THAN OKAY laptop to have. Sure it can play hardcore games but how can you enjoy your game (or shows) when the screen doesnt look so bright and lack the visual pop you want, or not be able to properly hear the speakers even when your volume is set to the max? Would I tell my friends to buy this? No! Stay away from it UNLESS you have a crazy cheap sale on it. This is not worth 1500.... it's a 500-600 gaming laptop. I gave this laptop a proper review after testing it out for close to a month owning it.

Excellent Gaming PC
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve had my MSI laptop for about a month now, and I have to say I am extremely satisfied with the product. I’ve been a hardcore ASUS user, so I was hesitant to switch brands with MSI. When my nearly seven-year-old ASUS finally started to struggle to keep up, I started to look at the best options at BestBuy, and based on MSI’s reputation, I found the GS 63 Stealth to be extremely competitive based on the specifications. I decided to give them a shot. Pros: The graphics are fantastic, fluid, and smooth. I’ve had no problem running different games at their highest graphic settings, and there has never been a graphical issue with it that I’m aware of. The system boots in seconds, thanks to the SSD, and it updates and installs more than double the speed of my previous laptops. I’m admittedly a sucker for bells, whistles, and shiny things, so I am beyond in love with the customizable, back-lit LED keyboard. The thing is lightweight; this a HUGE relief from someone who previously owned an extremely heavy ASUS gaming laptop. I can’t speak to the battery life because I primarily use it for gaming, and I prefer to keep it plugged in. However, I accidentally left it unplugged while playing once, and I didn’t notice anything until I got the pop-up about a low battery well into my playing time. Cons: The fan noise is louder than I expected, but I often play with headphones, so I don’t really notice it. I’d recommend having a lap desk of some variety if you’re going to be playing anywhere other than a desk because the air coming out of the computer can be very hot. Other than those two very minor (and, frankly, I feel they’re subjective) cons, I haven’t had any issues so far. TL;DR – This laptop is an amazing value, and I would happily recommend it to anyone who wants a travel-friendly, awesome-looking gaming laptop.

Awesome laptop
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love this thing. Light, easy to carry. Only drawback for me is where the power cord plugs in to the side and seems to be a little wobbly. Other than that, I like this better than my Alienware.

Great for work and gaming
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking for a gaming laptop that I could use as an actual travel/work/leisure laptop that could do both work and gaming and this truly exceeded my expectations. The case is a beautiful, aluminum, thin and light. It is new enough to Best Buy that it wasn't on the shelves in the config I got, which has the 8th Gen I7-8750H and upgraded nVidia geforce 1060 with 6gb rather than the budget 3gb version. Between the new processor and the vidio card, When it's running a game it does have a noticeable fan noise. The built in Steelseries RGB keyboard is absolutely beautiful and fully customizable and squeezing in the number pad is always a plus for me in a 15.4 form factor. The screen is standard 1080p., which is fine for the size, but you can project on a 4k monitor for better rez, but it does affect framerate if you want to play above low settings. For everyday use the most amazing aspect is the battery life. I left the power cord at home one day, and just had the computer. Even with the keyboard in 'disco mode' lighting which got a few laughs from colleagues, and a couple of breaks gaming, the battery lasted a 9 hour day no problems. No optical drive, no touch screen, but 3 USB 3 ports, one USB 2.0 and a thunderbolt/usb-c port. The camera is not Windows Hello for login for those who have an Alienware, and the speakers aren't super great, but fine. An HDMI and minidisplayport are available for multiple monitors. Overall, for the size, the processor, the video card and performance I would say get them while you can. This is a great upgrade from the previous version and is better for battery life and performance than any of the other 15.4 screen gaming configs available in store in Best Buy.

Sweet laptop

Great Laptop for gaming with an awesome design.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop last week and so far I have had an excellent experience using it. I love that it has all the input ports available because, not only I use it for entertainment but also for work. The only thing I would complain is the touchpad. It is a little stiff but because I mostly use it with my wireless mouse I don't have a problem.

Solid high-performance gaming PC
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The MSI GS63 Stealth-010 is a sturdy, reliable laptop. It handles every task I can throw at it and does a stellar job at that. Though I’ve only had it for a few days, I’ve put it through thing wringer and it has come out on top each time. Being that this is my first review (and first gaming laptop), I think the easiest format is pros and cons. PROS: -The graphics card and processor can push almost every game (99%) I’ve played to ultra settings and maintain a steady 60fps. -The laptop is sleek and very portable, weighing slightly less than other laptops in the same class. -There is ample storage, with a 1TB hard drive and a 256GB SSD. -The steelseries keyboard is HIGHLY customizable, with a range of colors and effects that can be applied to each key. -The fan speed can be controlled, allowing the user to cool the processor more efficiently and quickly. -The MSI Dragon Center is an extremely useful hub for important information and controls. -The webcam and microphone are high quality and work well. -The touchpad is responsive and smooth. -There are 4 USB ports (one 2.0 on the right and three 3.0 on the left). CONS: -In exchange for the weight reduction, the laptop has no built-in DVD/CD drive. -As should be expected, after a considerable amount of time gaming, the processor will heat to temperatures up to 90 °C (194 °F). -When the CPU is hot enough, the fans will speed up, increasing to an appreciable and very audible volume. -When playing games, battery life tends to be rather low, so I would recommend staying plugged into a power source often if playing games. All in all, I would highly recommend this pc to avid gamers, engineering students, and anyone looking for a powerful, portable rig.

Good value - Nice performance
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have had this laptop a week and so far so good. The build quality seems nice and sturdy. My own complaint is with the control of the RGB keyboard. There are a set of pre-programmed colors and patterns and getting new ones in and working with the FN key options seems harder than it should be. Overall so far a good performer for the money.

Excellent Laptop - Can't Beat Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed a fast, strong laptop with good storage space, graphics, fast speed, and excellent colors for photo editing. This MSI handles everything perfectly so far. As I am new to gaming computers, setup took a little time for me to figure out everything, and learning how to use the MSI Dragon Center and NVIDIA Geforce interfaces still requires me to tinker around a little - just a heads up for those not used to gaming computers. Also, my memory on my MSI Dragon Center seems to keep spiking to over 50% - not even with heavy usage. Trying to figure out what still needs to be disabled. Some reviews made me scared of overheating, but I use this on top of a fan (not plugged in - just resting), and I haven't experienced any ridiculous heat so far. The laptop, itself, is relatively thin and lightweight, which is fantastic for portability purposes! The overall look is sleek, but it still feels sturdy. It has an ample supply of USB ports and the headphone port/other ports seem to all be in comfortable positions. My only gripe is that 3 USBs are in a row on the left side rather than having one of those on the right, but that is incredibly minor. The light up keyboard is wonderful, especially coming from a laptop that doesn't light up. The colors and modifications are a fantastically fun bonus! The windows key and delete keys are in different locations than other keyboards I've used, but I'm assuming that it will just take some getting used to. The feel of typing is wonderful - snappy keys but not super loud. I'm not uber picky with sound, so the sound sounds fine to me. Overall, super happy - it is a powerhouse for a laptop and price wise, it really was a great deal. Don't regret one cent!
