A gaming laptop you can pull out in a meeting

I was originally going to pick up the Lenovo Legion Y530, but ended up with the MSI. Happy about it for a couple reasons: The difference in price is negligible when considering the extra 8 gigs of RAM, the additional SSD and the noticeably lighter weight (I travel quite a bit so weight is important to me). I was also happy to have the SD card slot as I have some older gaming handhelds whose data I handle in this way. But the icing on the cake was the Steelseries integration. Let's face it - the RGB keyboard is dope AF. So far I'm pleased with the purchase. I also appreciate that there wasn't a ton of non-Windows bloatware to deal with when I turned it on for the the first time, it's fast, responsive and the Dragon Center program helps me keep on top of the laptop's performance. As the title suggests, this is a gaming laptop that doesn't need to beat you over the head about being a gaming laptop. A red accent around the mousepad, the lit logo and the RGB keyboard are really it. As someone approaching middle aged (God help me), it's important to have something that can perform but I could also pull out on a work trip. Now to redownload that pesky Steam library.

A wonderful upgrade of a laptop

We bought this laptop while looking for components to upgrade my main gaming desktop and have not regretted it since. This has now become my main gaming computer replacing my desktop all together. While my desktop was not bad by any means (minus some aging components), sporting a 900 series nVidia card, this laptop smokes it out of the water in every way. The speed with which my games run at now, and how crisp aand wonderful everything looks on the highest settings is unbelievable, and I am now re-enjoying some personal favorites from the past in my gaming library as they now feel like I am playing different games. The keyboard with the lights and the colors has been the envy of the family and the dimensions and the light weight has enabled me to take it to work with me without barely noticing the burden of it in my bag. My only concern with it is the temperature it starts reaching after a few hours of intensive use, but that is expected with a video card this beefy crammed into the thin confines of the laptop, I may invest in something to put under it to improve the cooling eventually. Would definitely recommend - the performance is stellar for a laptop that runs under $2k.

Excellent for work, school, and gaming

My new airline job requires that I travel across the country constantly, so I needed a laptop that I could use for school work and for gaming. After looking at dozens of examples online, I found this laptop. It had excellent reviews, and it fit within my size limitations for travel. After purchasing this laptop, I am happy to say that the reviews were correct. This computer runs games amazingly well in addition to being portable enough to take into a small carry-on bag. Not only does it run games well, but the computer material is of high quality manufacture. I would recommend anyone who travels frequently and wants a solid gaming laptop to check this one out. The only downside, as detailed in many other reviews, is that this computer becomes rather warm when running high performance games. This is expected from most gaming laptops of this size, so it does not come as a surprise that it overheats quickly. This effect can be reduced by ensuring proper ventilation below the computer at any time. Overall, if you are looking for a gaming laptop that is high performance, affordable, and small enough to fit in a small carry-on bag, this one is for you.

    Great value - Amazing Performance

My wife purchased this lab top 3 months ago and it was amazing the moment we pulled it out of the box. I was very impressed with the amount of hardware that it came with for the price we spent on it, very comparable to other brands but this one seemed to have a little "extra" for the same price (if not cheaper). Watching her use it for our various gaming we do together, I was taken away by how well it handled all the graphics without over heating, how fast/quick all the applications responded to us, load times, etc... and how fun some of the extra features are to use (I.E. the keyboard). In short, we were in best buy yesterday, saw this model was still available, and I just had to have one for myself. They had other "higher end" models by MSI for sale as well, but I was more than happy to get this one (cheaper) and still feel like I was not compromising on performance/hardware. Great buy!

Gaming Laptop That is Light (Oculus)

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I started off about two years ago with my first gaming laptop, ASUS ROG. It worked just fine but was huge and heavy. The power supply alone was literally a brick. I settled after that with a lenova 920. No complaints, super small, light weight, downside no graphics card. So now I wanted to purchase the Oculus, turns out the lenova 920 can't handle it. I went to searching for desktop to run the Oculus when I ran across the MSI GS63. Wow a graphics card, and a good one at that, in a laptop that is less than 3/4 of an inch thick and its fairly light weight. Amazing! Although I did not use it much I will miss the touch screen capability of the lenova, this does not have that obviously. I did have to tell the computer to use the graphics card, it wanted to split programs up on which one used the graphics card and which used the on board graphics. I changed it to globally use the nVidia1060 and have not had any problems. This laptop does more than I need it to, everything I want it to and it looks cool to with the led changing keyboard. The specs of this laptop outweigh anything I have ever had in a desktop. Its pretty cool.

the design is pretty much the same as last years model but slightly better battery life. performance is really nice. though the fan gets loud its reasonable for a gaming laptop. whats nice is you can increase the fan speed if you need to cool it immediately. its pretty light weight for what it is with reasonable battery life.

The computer hinge broke in the first few months, so we brought it in to be repaired/replaced with the 1 year warranty. Two weeks later we got the computer back. The hinge broke again six months later. Then slowly all the fans stopped working so the computer overheats. It's not worth fixing it and my year warranty expired a few months ago. For the price I would not recommend this laptop.

Let me start by giving Best Buy 5 Stars for being awesome about returning the laptop. After having the computer for only two weeks, the sound no longer worked and the dragon center program would not work. The MSI tech support Team had no solution and felt it was a motherboard issue. I looked at a forum on the MSI website and this is not an isolated issue. Many MSI laptops are losing sound and losing the dragon center program AFTER a Microsoft update that takes place automatically. This Microsoft update is crippling the laptop and they have no solution. I really don’t feel it’s a hardware (motherboard) issue, but instead a software compatibility issue. But if it is a motherboard issue on a brand new computer, then it’s even more reason to run away!

I had purchased a used razer 14 1060 and it was very nice and I fell in love with it but I returned it because of screen issues and got the MSI GS63-010 instead. This has been a complete upgrade. The screen is bigger and higher quality. The cooling is a HUGE upgrade the razer was unbearably hot and throttled so much during Arma 3 but this can easily handle King of the hill on a 120 man server on ultra while STAYING COOL!! That's very impressive considering it's insanely thin and weights about the same. What you get with about .3lbs more weight is an io that's fully decked out, the best cooler boosting technology, and a bigger screen but still maintains a very thin model. Build quality is on point and the keyboard is my favorite. The razer 14 had such a good keyboard I was very concerned that I wouldnt like the steelseries but it's perfect and the rgb lighting options are insane. This laptop really is the best for anyone wanting do high end gaming but still be able to use it as a work or school laptop due to its weight and great battery life. Hope this was some help!

Just Could Not Like This Laptop

I have had this laptop less than a year and I am already buying a laptop to replace it. Why? Two reasons: (1)The touch pad literally stops functioning properly at times and I have to reboot to make it work (not to mention how noisy it is when you press it), and (2) The audio is very tinny (sound almost monotone instead of stereo) and when turned up to full volume can barely hear it on the other side of the room. For the price paid, this laptop was a true disappointment.

I purchased this computer about two weeks ago after my old ASUS ROG computer finally died on me. Personally I was looking for something I could do a moderate amount of gaming on as well as video editing and music production. So far the computer has been able to handle everything I've been able to throw at it and run games beautifully and flawlessly. PROS -Sleek Design -Quick boot times with SSD -Very light and thin CONS -Touch pad isn't the best (I use a mouse anyways) -Spacebar doesn't always connect when hit on side with right thumb -Speakers aren't too loud (I'm usually connected with headphones or speakers anyways) Overall I would recommend this to anybody who is on the fence about it. My only worry is about the heat generated in such a thin laptop but the cooler boost seems to keep the temperature down just fine. If you're going to be using the touch pad mainly I would check it out in store and see if the overall feel is right for you. Definitely happy with my purchase so far!

    Powerful but light gaming laptop

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought the MSI GS63 Stealth-010 as a gaming and general-purpose laptop, and I'm very pleased with my purchase. It's lighter than my previous general-purpose laptop but runs graphics-intensive games without a hitch. It stays cool but is very quiet for most tasks. When I'm gaming, the fans can get a bit loud, but it's no worse than other laptops I've used. The keyboard is excellent for touch typing. I had been hoping to get a laptop with a GTX 1070 graphics card, but I haven't noticed any problems yet with the GTX-1060 card in this one, and the combination of features and price was unbeatable. I considered the Stealth Thin, but I didn't like the keyboard as much, and the Stealth Thin had only a SSD, no hard drive, and I like having the storage. The display is bright, with vivid colors, and I wasn't looking for a touch screen. The speakers are rather quiet; I have to bump up the sound more than I did on my old laptop. All in all, though, the MSI GS63 Stealth is perfect for my needs.

Powerful, lightweight and thin for gaming laptop

For a gaming laptop, this is extremely lightweight and thin for a reasonable price. Cheap when compared to macbooks pro etc. The keyboard looks great and is very versatile with styles and colors. Shorter bezels would be nice but considering this laptop has the numpad, it is a fair trade off. Able to play CSGO, DOOM and Fortnite comfortably, can run 60fps videos on YouTube and Twitch as well. The MSI dragon software is very useful as it shows the CPU, GPU, RAM, fan usage etc. Coming from a previous MSI gaming laptop, the only drawback is the speakers are no where near as loud, this is expected considering it was 4x thicker and 3x heavier. This was one of the selling points on my previous laptop however. Can notice difference in upgraded USB ports speeds and ability to use mini display port. Does not have a CD/DVD drive but not necessary in 2018. Overall very happy with the purchase so far, no problems to make me regret buying and would recommend to family and friends.

    Great Slim Gaming Laptop

Great purchase, lightweight and thin, slightly loud fans and average mouse-pad. Pros: Overall I am really happy with this computer the keyboard feels great, the 1060 graphics card is smooth, and its lightweight for travel makes it an added bonus when I am on the road. The Dragon Control center is actually better than what I thought it was going to be, it gives some nice dashboards on PC performance and things to tweak. I would recommend this especially for the price category that its in as I compared a lot of laptops. Cons: panel refresh rate is lower than what I would like but not terrible especially if you are hooking into a monitor it will take its refresh rate, fan can be a little loud at times (semi-expected), and the track-pad feels a little off, but nothing major and I use a mouse 90% of the time. Overall great laptop, already recommended it to my friend who is in the market and would recommend it to anyone looking for a new gaming rig.

    Great Laptop For Gamer/Photographer/Generic Use

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

A little background on why I purchased this laptop. My existing laptop was a 2015 MacBook Pro, base model. I do a lot of photography as well as some decent amount of gaming and the MacBook was not cutting it anymore. I do have a gaming PC that goes beyond the specs of this laptop, but I was looking for something that was much quicker then the MacBook, had great color for photo editing, and also handled games that I wanted to play when I am not using the desktop. This laptop checked all of those marks on paper. I was also looking at the Microsoft Surface Book 2 with 15.6" display, 16 GB of memory, and 256 GB SSD. For $1100 less, I could not refuse the offer on this laptop. The Case: A quite beautiful looking case, pretty firmly built, but I do feel like I could break it if not careful. The bottom of the case has a lot of air vents and a felt pad, along with nice rubber feet. The top of the case is a clean brushed style that attracts finger prints, as well as the interior of the case as well. To be honest, I still have not taken the plastic protective that the laptop comes with on the top of the case. I wish UAG or someone made a decent rugged case for the laptop so I wouldn’t have to worry about scratching it or putting finger prints all over it. Keyboard: I see mixed reviews on the keyboard, the SteelSeries Engine software to be able to customize the keyboard is really nice to use once you get use to the software. The keyboard itself is pretty nice in my opinion, I have not had any issues with any of the keys as of yet, nor do I see that being an issue. Trackpad: It is not the best set up, it does take some time to get use to. Do yourself a favor, purchase a nice mouse so you don’t have to mess with the trackpad. Sound: I haven’t really used the speakers on the laptop, as I typically use headphones due to the areas I am usually in while using this laptop. Monitor: The brightness is very nice; the quality of the monitor is great as well. I know it is not a 4K monitor, but I was not looking for a 4K setup when it came to a laptop as my desktop is a full 4K setup. Once your monitor is calibrated, it makes a big difference. Startup: Initial startup of the laptop is your typical Microsoft Windows setup, but once that is complete, load time into your desktop is very quick. I did check MSI’s website once Microsoft Windows was complete its setup, all of my drivers were up to date thankfully besides the Nvidia driver. Software: This is where users need to be careful if you purchase from Best Buy. If you look this model up on MSI’s website, they offer software called TrueColor. This is one of the main reasons I went with this laptop. I purchased the laptop direct from a Best Buy store, went to update TrueColor and was given an error that this laptop was not supported. I contacted MSI and they stated that TrueColor was not supported on Best Buy models, which is very discouraging for photographers or those who do photo editing. Is it the end of the world? No. There are other ways around to calibrate your monitor, which is what I had to do because out of the box the colors were off. Below are some load times of some generic software that I added onto the laptop. SSD Drive Software Lightroom Classic 2019 - 27.13 seconds Photoshop CC 2019 - 27.14 seconds Google Chrome - 2.01 seconds Microsoft Office Products - 3.04 seconds Dragon Center - 7.88 seconds HDD Drive Software Origin – 30.90 seconds Discord – 26.71 seconds Steam – 22.62 seconds Performance: This laptop has performed well with the games I have played on it so far, as well as any software I need to use. The GTX 1060 paired with the intel 8th Gen i7-8750h is a great combo. No issues as of yet and I have been using this laptop for two weeks now. MSI: I have contacted MSI’s customer support twice now. One for a software issue and another for a generic question. Both times their customer support staff have responded to my requests within hours. Overall: Would I recommend this laptop to someone who wants a gaming laptop? Absolutely. I was discouraged that MSI “dumbs down” their laptops when it comes to software and big box stores, but there were ways around that issue.

The space bar only works some of the time. The hard drive is very small. My fingers ALWAYS hit the mouse pad and move the curser while I am typing. It will randomly turn off even if it is plugged in and the mouse always freezes. I was going to get a different computer and the sales clerk talked me into this one. Biggest regret of the year so far.

So it was time to upgrade ... the keyboard on my old laptop was kaput and I needed a great game playing laptop at the right price. This laptop, the GS63 Stealth by MSI, hit the sweet spot. I'll not bore you with the specs as they are readily available. Instead, will let you know my impressions. Solid case, relatively lightweight, and nice and thin. Performance does not disappoint - fast, crisp graphics, all the bells and whistles you'd expect. Keyboard feels good and is perfect for games. The only negative I'd mention is that I had a problem with the backlit display and as I had picked the computer up at a location far from home I needed to go through MSI for support. I must say - it was a positive experience. Fast response, RMA granted without a fuss. So for me, a gamer looking for his fix on the road and office - a definite yes on this one.

I bought this Laptop a month ago and I must say, what a great machine this is. So I went with the 8th Gen Intel Core processor, which is the newest in the market, with I7-8750H and upgraded nVidia Geforce 1060 with 6GB rather than the budget 3 Gb version. Between the new processor, which is extremely powerful and the video card, running games like Overwatch I experienced no lag. This beauty has a light up key board that has fun disco lighting, I love that. Real light and the battery life is very long, I have experience playing games for 9 hours with no issue. Only complain I have is it does make noise more than your regular laptop when the fan kicks in. I still recommend it to anyone, it's simply a great fast machine that will likely serve you for few years as the new generation games come out with better graphics.

This laptop is equipped with a GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5, 16 GB of DDR4 memory @2400Mhz, an 8th generation Intel i7-8750H, 256 M.2 SSD Storage, and an 1TB SATA HDD at 5200 RPM. This laptop, with its Intel processors, is powerful enough to handle just about any games and intense programs at ultra settings 1080p @60Hz. The GS63 Stealth-10 comes preinstalled with all the additional software you could ever think of needing for gaming on a laptop, including: Dragon Center, SteelSeries Engine 3, Nahimic 3, and GeForce Experience. Overall, this is an amazing, lightweight device. Not only can it handle games well, provide futureproofing specs, but can also be carried in a backpack or in your hand and hardly feel it. When compared to other laptops; this is the best option for performance and price.
