    Great Gaming and School Laptop

I'm simply going to get straight to what makes this laptop good, and the minor flaws (for me) that it has. To begin with, it has the capacity to play nearly any game at ultra to max settings at 60 fps without hiccups. While gaming, the fans get considerably loud and the thermals do get higher, around 73 degrees Celsius. This is to be expected of any laptop while playing games, so I can't really write it as a negative. The fans and thermals aren't unbearably loud either, so games are enjoyable. Aside from gaming, however, the fans are nearly non-existent, and there is little to no heat generation. The keyboard is by far the best laptop keyboard I have ever felt or seen. It has a very tactile feel to it and the lights... they're absolutely gorgeous. The SteelSeries keyboard on this laptop gives it an even more premium feel to the device. I wish I could say the same for the touchpad, but I can't. It's not horrible by any means, it functions properly, but if you need to click on it, then it is annoying. You have to put quite a bit of pressure on it to get the click you want. It shouldn't be bad for day to day use for most people, and you are just going to use a mouse if you're playing games. I get around 7 hours of battery life on this device with 50% brightness, which is definitely enough for me for school work. the charging brick is also slim enough that I wouldn't mind taking it school if need be. The overall feel to the device is very premium, and aside from the logo, which you could probably cover up if need be, it has a non "gamery" feel that pretty much every other gaming laptop has. it is a very discrete and powerful device. The only downsides that this device appears to have is the touchpad and the fact that it is only a 60hz screen. While it isn't a negative for me, because I don't really need a 120hz screen, MSI sells a similarly designed laptop, the GS65 which comes with a 1070 max-q and a 120hz screen. I didn't exactly need it, and at the time of writing this review, I wasn't keen on shilling out an extra $400 for a slightly better GPU and better monitor.

    Very Close To Perfection

I read all the reviews and understood everything I was getting before my purchase. 3 days in and I do not regret buying this gaming laptop. It was meant to replace my desktop that was aging, and it has done just that. Pros: SCREEN - An IPS screen running at 60hz with vibrant colors and a crisp image. I'm aware that it is not running at the advertised 120hz, but again I knew this before the purchase. GPU - Its a GTX 1060 that runs around 76c when I'm pushing it hard. I connect this laptop up to my external monitor for gaming and run everything at 144hz. 76c is a respectable number for what I put it through. CPU - Its an 8th gen I7. What more could you want. It makes everything snappy and fast. BUILD QUALITY - Very solid build altogether. Nothing is flimsy and seems like it will stand the test of time. One of the reasons I bought this was because of the slim form factor. Its very easy to transport and move from one room to another if need be. Cons: HDD - This is just a small con. They should have forgotten about the mechanical drive and just put in a 512GB SSD. And not using m.2. All in all, this purchase was well worth it. I hope to do a review in a year from now as an update.

This laptop combines power and design without any compromises. The keyboard feels very nice to type on and the RBG makes it stunning in the dark. The screen has great viewing angles and the bezels are almost non-existent on around it. The battery life is great for a gaming laptop, and to top it all off the laptop runs games at ultra setting 150 fps consistently. The only problem with the laptop is how it will get extremely hot under heavy loads, but this problem is easily avoided and isn't a deal breaker.

Excellent laptop, even for an engineering student

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased this laptop, not for gaming use, but for engineering purposes. I am an engineering student and a lot of the software I use requires a good chunk of power to run. I searched for months for a laptop that could get the job done without burning up the motherboard but didn't have that heavy "gamer" feel to it, as I personally am not into that. Most of the laptops I came across in my research couldn't handle the load for a long period of time and would begin to experience major hardware issues. This lead me to check out gaming PCs, but as I said before, I don't care for all of the extreme RGB lighting and the general gaming look. I planned on taking this laptop to class, and I didn't want to draw attention to myself because of that. So far, this laptop has treated me well. I have managed to successfully run power heavy SolidWorks programs, MATLAB, and Simulink. In fact, this laptop managed to run a super complex analysis in under fifteen minutes. My fellow engineering students who ran the same study spent over six hours running the program. Some were unable to run it at all because their computers were unable to handle it. Now, I do have a complaint or two about the hardware of the product. All of these other reviews that are giving negative feedback about the trackpad on this device are not overexaggerating about how awful it is. Clicking on this trackpad feels disgusting. Also, it is recessed and in a position that creates a lot of issues while typing. Because it is so far to the left, I have had a lot of issues in which I find I'm clicking on random spots on the page while I'm trying to type. I'm sure everyone can imagine what kind of problems this leads to. I would also like to make a note of the fact that my hands are not very large. The other issue I have is that I find the power button kind of difficult to find, since it is flush with the side. However, I understand why this was done, and it is probably more of a personal preference. Aside from this issue, this laptop otherwise feels great. It feels sturdy and is fairly lightweight. I hardly notice it when I'm carrying it around in my bag. I specifically would like to mention how much I love this steel series keyboard. I enjoy how responsive it feels, and I was very happy that there is a number pad included, as I do a lot of work with numbers. I do have one minor complaint about the keyboard, but it is not related to its hardware. After updating the software for the steel series keyboard, the RGB lighting on the product started glitching, and the software had messed with Windows so much so that I had to factory reset the laptop after only having it for three days. I couldn't type anywhere in Windows. I originally thought this was due to a Windows update, but after I started trying to reverse this problem, I quickly realized this was not the issue. I would not let this run anyone away from this computer, as it is an excellent laptop. I would just recommend avoiding updating that particular software until a new update comes out or something. Aside from these few complaints, I absolutely love this laptop. I was drawn to it immediately when I completed a search trying to find major hardware issues with the computer. My search yielded nothing, even when I ran a search as if I already owned the computer and was experiencing a problem. I noticed in some of the reviews that people have expressed concern about how hot some of the hardware gets, but I have yet to see anyone who has had their hardware overheat.

lil laptop packs a punch w/o breaking the bank

My old Dell all-in-one has been good to me but it's intel i3 and graphics card won't allow me to play high level games so I started researching into gaming computers. I thought I was getting a good deal when I picked up an Open Box Alienware R4 17 i7 7th gen GTX 1070 at a Best Buy in Costa Mesa. It was a tank but couldn't resist to get my foot in door with the gaming world for $950 + tax. Should have known better, after 24 hours, perpetual blue screen, stuck in windows automatic repair loop after adding in software for my Razer keyboard and mouse. Tried everything at C prompt to no avail. Since I already had one foot in the door, I decided to use my refund for a new MSI GS63 VR GTX 1060 and there was no looking back. I thought it was going to be a GPU step down from a NVIDIA GTX 1070 to a GTX 1060 but it was fine. The GTX 1060 graphics card handled Epic UT and Fortnite pretty smoothly during game play. Very impressive is the heat dissipation of the MSI GS63, it never really ran too hot that the game performance suffered. I'm sure the triple fan set-up and inverted motherboard helps the performance stay cool. Mmmm, they probably also used proper thermal paste, unlike some company (Alienware by Dell). The only problem I had was the RGB lighting on the built- in Steel Series keyboard of the MSI GS63. I started playing around with the settings before updating Windows 10 first - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4027667/windows-update-windows-10 Also, update the Steel Series Engine and MSI Dragon Center - https://www.msi.com/Laptop/support/GS63-Stealth-8RE#down-utility Once these 3 things are updated, you can change the RGB lighting with the Steel Series Engine, through the MSI Dragon, and Windows 10 will allow them to talk to one another. Hopefully, I can add a few pics later on after this post is up. If you are looking for a mobile gaming laptop less than 5 lbs. with quality parts and delivering the gaming performance w/o breaking the bank, then the MSI GS63 might just be for you.

I purchased this laptop two days after buying a Dell 2-in1 laptop with 4k and touchscreen. The difference in speed was night and day. Keyboard is tactile and very responsive, and I enjoy having less bloatware and full ability to monitor my PC speeds. Gaming is flawless as the machine delivers very quick gameplay with no lag and the MSI would rarely heat up. While i'll miss 4k and touch screen, I can't justify the price increase for what MSI provides -- power. Can't wait to push it to the limits!

Unit has given us problems from the beginning. In several times for service, and each time we were told it was overheating for an unknown reason, but no components seemed to be failing. A software reinstall should help we were told. 2 years and several reinstalls later, the motherboard was removed after the GPU melted...that's when it was found that one of the fans below the motherboard was never plugged in at the factory. But now it's out of warranty I'm told by MSI...so it's a $1600 door stop. My first MSI purchase...AND ABSOLUTELY MY LAST!!!!

Hands Down The Best Laptop I Ever Owned

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I owned HP (Worse laptops I ever owned), Compaq, Toshiba, Samsung, Medion, Acer, ASUS, Dell (my second favorite brand), and even the utterly overpriced Apple laptops. I never shied away from a higher price tag, if I get what I pay for. This is hands down the best and most reliable laptop I have ever owned. I have to mention, this is my first MSI laptop I ever purchased. It does everything I throw at it.I purchased this laptop Jun 26, 2018, It doesn't even get hot doing regular work on it. The FAN only comes on during heavy gaming with higher settings. I was surprised how light it is considering all the stuff it has in it. I love the form factor. I haven't had a single crash or freeze and haven't restarted it a single time, aside of the necessary Windows 10 updates. The battery life is excellent as well. I like the Network Jack offered, plenty amounts of USB 3, many different ways to connect an external display and 120Hz support for 1080p. I also like that all plugs are on the sides, not on the back or front of the housing. I just love this Laptop! Some minor personal preference issues that are purely convenience related: When you are running on battery, the laptop is set into ECO mode by the Dragon Center Software, which puts it into maximum battery and minimum performance. This laptop is very slow in ECO mode and beside Power Options (custom settings you have to setup through Windows 10), you cannot select any better speed mode they offer in their Dragon Center settings. The power jack is not placed at the edge of the housing and I find myself having to look at it to find the proper position to plug in the power adapter. The power button on the right side of the housing is not ideal for me, I like the power button protected near the keyboard, covered by the screen when folded up. From here on out, MSI is and will be my first choice.

I've had a chance to use this laptop for a couple weeks now and so far I am very impressed. It has great build quality and very solid performance for the price, especially if you're lucky enough to get it on sale like I was. The thin aluminum chassis gives it awesome portability and the keyboard feels great to type on. The overall build quality is excellent. Having an 8th gen CPU and a GTX 1060 gives this laptop enough power to do anything I need it to.

Excellent Laptop for a Very Reasonable Price

I bought this laptop to serve my needs as an engineering student in college and so far, it has held up very well. It runs CAD programs smoothly, as well as games (Overwatch on max settings at 60 fps). I chose this laptop over others for college because I didn't want to brand myself as a gamer by purchasing a computer that "looked like" a gaming laptop. This one is perfect. The build is high quality and it is discrete enough to not draw unwanted attention. The screen looks great, although it is only FHD. The keyboard feels nice - good key travel and pressure requirements. The backlight is per-key RGB, which let me program a few configurations to help me when I am typing or gaming or working. In terms of temperature, this laptop does get warm. While gaming it can reach core temps in the mid-80s Celsius. The fans are good at preventing it from overheating, but can get very loud - to the point where the students across the hall could hear them spinning. This is not the end of the world though, if a little noise doesn't bother you. Note: wearing headphones essentially reduced the noise that I heard to zero - but that doesn't mean that there is no noise. The ports are great and there is a large selection. The Ethernet slot is very important to me and I am glad they included it. Battery is pitiful - if you are gaming/ doing heavy CAD work. Web browsing and watching YouTube gave me about 5 hours, which is OK. Overall I am super satisfied with this laptop and would definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for a powerful but mobile device. Pros: Good price, discrete, super powerful, nice keyboard. Cons: Temperature/noise, battery life My specs: Intel Core I7 - 8750H @ 2.2 GHz | NVidia GeForce GTX 1060 | 256 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD | 16 GB RAM

I am going to college this fall for architectural engineering, and for the longest time, I was looking for a great laptop that would last me 5 years and be able to do some gaming, run engineering programs, and other college projects. In the end, I chose this laptop, and I am extremely glad I got this laptop. Fantastic speeds, incredible custom keyboard, pretty good battery life, and very portable to take around campus! Overall, I would highly recommend it!

I'm going to be entering college and so I decided to buy a new laptop that I can also use to game. This was the perfect choice because it's remarkably lightweight for a gaming laptop so I can carry it around campus. I've only played fortnite and overwatch but they run and look great, there is no lag whatsoever. The keyboard feels really good too. Nothing is wrong with this laptop, only thing is it was a bit pricey but definitely worth it. 5 stars

This is a wonderful laptop that I just purchased today. I bought it due to the price point (1450), powerful graphics card and processor, and thin and light profile. Excited to start gaming on this - had a Lenovo Yoga over the past few years so wasn't able to play any games. Will try and update this review once I have more time on it RE gaming performance and battery life. But so far, I am loving it and would definitely recommend to a friend!

I just bought the GS63 Stealth last night, and I am very pleased with the overall quality. The picture is amazing, response times are lightning quick, the keyboard looks and feels great, and I love the new slim design. I own an older model, and it is so big and bulky that I treat it like a desktop. The GS63 Stealth, however, has more power and capability than the older models but in a more compact form, so I can actually take it places.

I've wanted a gaming rig for the last 6 years, however I was unable to afford one and/or was not allowed to buy one. However because of college I needed a laptop, and I decided to go with a powerful gaming laptop to be both my entertainment and my school device. Now for actual review - For starters, yes, just yes... This machine runs Skyrim on Ultra, Modded all out, and I get 100+ FPS on Minecraft max graphics... but those games are childs play, I can run Ark: Survival Evolved on Ultra, however it is not quite perfect, maybe its just my eyes needing to adjust to the closer screen, as I've played Ark on my PS4 for the last 2 years. Other than that, display, keyboard flashy lights, and the amount USB/mic plugins are fantastic, I love this thing. A few things to note 1. This guy has a VERY loud fan (when doing hardcore gaming), but the GTX 1060 is why, and I bought a gaming laptop, you get what you buy, so I can't knock this down from 5 stars for that reason. 2. The battery life is a little annoying, using to just browse the internet you get 3-4 hours, but gaming... hour, hour and a half tops. Again I cant knock it a star because of battery life... you bought a gaming laptop, you get what you buy, if you want battery life buy a $200 chrome book. Also how often do you "game on the go"?, you game at home, and when you are home just keep it plugged into the wall. You may ask, why not buy a desktop then? Good point, but I needed it for school, and the browsing battery life is plenty for class. I love this thing, and recommend this to anyone looking for a powerful machine. Oh and it is very light, which is a minor bonus.

This computer has been very impressive. The first noticeable benefit is how light and portable the device is. Fits comfortably in most backpacks and never seems like a cumbersome addition. Graphics are great, performance is great, feel is great. The only negatives are a middling battery life (expected for something so compact) and a fan that can quite loud in quiet places. Overall, have enjoyed using this computer immensely.

I bought this a week ago and love it! It has not disappointed me. It is quick, and plays all of my games with ease. The stealth's size is nice, i like the slightly smaller size of it compared to other brands. The only downside is the mousebad is a little bleh. But i use a mouse most the time so its no issue really. the battery life is great. Also the customizability of it is a nice feature!

One of the best laptops I have ever purchased. The Core i7-8750H is a blazing fast chip and the solid state drive allows a very fast boot. The computer has not gotten hot to the touch when i am playing graphic intense games. The cooling fans are a little bit more noisy than I am used to, but when I have my headphones on, I do not even notice. Laptop is thin and very light.
