Customers are delighted by the high performance, excellent build quality, and lightweight design of this 15.6" gaming laptop. Many appreciate its portability and long battery life, along with the responsive keyboard and smooth refresh rate. However, some users noted that the laptop can get warm and the fan can be noisy at times. A few also mentioned that the speakers and storage capacity could be improved.

Great specs and performance out of the box

I really would recommend this laptop to anyone who is looking for a laptop that is powerful, but thin and light. Overall, the specs perform as advertised, and the screed is great. The thin bezel design is very good to look at. As well, the keyboard feels very comfortable to type on. I chose this laptop over similar products like the Gigabyte Aero 15x because of better software and driver quality, and so far I have no complaints.

Build quality, Specification and Global Warranty

Got a good deal so took the plunge. Specification are very good and its great while its working. There are couple of minor and major issues.
First issue is with build quality. The first one I got had charging issue and had to return it back and got another one, giving them a benefit of doubt. The second one worked perfectly for a couple of days, however now I am hearing fan noise as if something is stuck in the fan. Its audible only when you are sitting in quite place and not gaming or listening to anything. Both these instances suggests that there are some quality related issues with MSI products.
Second issue is with the specification mismatch. Not a major one, however the RAM on product specification is 2400mhz, however the sticker on the laptop says 2666 which has higher number but is actually little slower.
Third and the biggest issue for anyone travelling outside US is with the Global Warranty. It says global, however there are few countries where this warranty won't work. e.g. If you are planning to go to India, you will not get any warranty. There would most likely be other countries too where warranty will not work if you bought it from US. So if you plan to travel outside US and planning to take this laptop with you, check the warranty coverage for that country first on MSI site.

This is laptop looks great and packs a punch in performance as well. The GTX 1070 Max Q plays almost all AAA titles smoothly. I have been using this daily since buying it. It is a bit expensive but gives best of both looks and performance.

My main concern choosing a laptop was the graphic cards. At first I was skeptical about the capacity of the GTX 1070 graphics card, until now the laptop has not froze on me while using several programs all at once.

This thing will do and can do anything you'll need. I work outdoors and take it with me in some auteur environments. The metal case is suitable for rough roads in less than comfortable vehicles (HMMWV)

Best portable Gaming Laptop

Like the title states, the MSI GS65 Stealth Thin is quite easily one of the best laptops on the market right now for not only gaming, but also productivity related tasks.
Build Quality & Design:
The chassis appears to be a very thin aluminum. This allows the laptop to be incredibly lightweight, which is one of the best aspects of this laptop. For a 15.6" laptop, it feels relatively as heavy as an iPad pro with a type cover attached - that is to say, not very heavy. The trade off to this is that the laptop does have some flex in certain areas. The display does flex slightly when opening and there is some slight flex over the vent above the keyboard. However in everyday use it's not noticeable (how often do you really just press down on random areas of the chassis of your laptop..?). There is little-to-no flex in the keyboard or palm rests.
The design is superb. The design is very nice and subdued. It's something you can take out in a coffee shop, school, or at most individual's office space and not feel as though all eyes are judging. The gold dragon is the only thing that clues this as being a little different than your run-of-the-mill laptop, and it looks more elegant than gaudy. The keyboard however does have an eclectic font typeface. However, this is a completely subjective aspect of the laptop, neither good nor bad. I personally find the font to be fun and I enjoy it. The keyboard comes with RGB lighting which can be customized or disabled as you prefer. The quality of the lighting is superb, and seems on par with Razer's "Chroma".
As far as the display, it's beautiful. The brightness is somewhere between standard and great. It's not the brightest screen, but it definitely does well for daily use. As far as screen bleeding, this is easily the first laptop screen I've owned that has absolutely NO screen bleed (seriously!), which is a massive 5 star to MSI. I don't know if I hit the display lottery, but I'm very happy with this display. The 144hz refresh rate also allows for snappy performance and looks great - particularly when scrolling through extensive word and excel documents. Text doesn't blur together, it remains crisp.
Performance:
Unfortunately, I can't speak much to the power of the i7-8750H as I don't do any photo or video editing. However, I can comment about the GPU. The GTX 1070 is of the max-q variant, meaning it is approximately 10-15% slower than the standard mobile 1070. This is a good thing as it allows the computer to run cooler and have better battery life without significant drop in performance. This laptop will shred through most modern AAA titles at 70+ FPS at 1080p resolution (I can't speak on 4K gaming). The thermals are also good, for a laptop this size. You have to compromise a little when it comes to thermals. Small packages cannot deliver low temperatures. However, MSI has done a good job. With three exhaust vents (two on the sides, one in the back), there is plenty is space to dispel the heat. There are also two large air intake vents on the top and bottom of the keyboard. As a result, the laptop stays relatively cool while gaming both internally and to the touch over the keyboard and palm rests. The fans do kick on during serious gaming, but the sound is a lower, less distracting, whirling sound. You'll notice it, but likely be okay with it.
Battery:
This is one of the big selling points to me. For such a powerful laptop, the battery during normal operation is phenomenal. Combinations of web browsing, YouTube, listening to music, and working in Microsoft office programs, I average between 6-10 hours (depending on what all I have open). Gaming is substantially less - around 1 hour to 4 hours (depending on the game). You'll want your charger if you plan on gaming for hours on end.
Other:
Audio is good. Laptop speakers are almost always awful. These are pretty good for simple YouTube and movie watching. If you're seriously into gaming or are an audiophile, you'll likely be using headphones anyways which makes it a non-issue. If you don't have headphones, go get a pair. The built in audio drivers are pretty good with headphones. The touchpad uses windows precision drivers and is very responsive. It's a little smaller than something like the macbook pro or surface book, but I never found that I ran out of space during normal use. It's positioned more on the left side of the laptop which is nice for typing (as your palm doesn't brush up against it), but can be uncomfortable to use for an extended period of time as your right hand has to bend sideways more. Yet again, it's not a deal breaker at the least, just something I've noticed. If you plan on doing a lot of mouse intense work, you'd likely want a mouse anyways, regardless of the laptop. There are no biometric login features, so no Windows Hello or fingerprint. However, I find that a quick 4 digit pin number unlocks just as quick as it takes for most Windows Hello equipped laptop's infrared cameras to kick on.
Bottom line:
No laptop is perfect. But this one is dang near close and I have to give a lot of credit to MSI for delivering such a great product. If you're a student, a hardcore gamer, or just your standard guy/gal who needs a solid laptop who also likes to play some games - this is the laptop for you. I hope this helps some of you in your decision.
Note:
The 512gb hard drive that comes with this Best Buy edition is partitioned into two drives: (Windows C:\ and Data D:\). There is nothing on the Data partition and can be deleted and reallocated to the C:\ drive for a larger volume. You will need a third party partition manager (I used MiniTool Partition Free) to delete the D:\ drive and extend the size of the C:\ drive. Before doing this, make sure you grab a flash drive and create a recovery drive just in case something goes south and you need to reinstall windows from scratch. You can also delete the hibernation file (Open command prompt in admin mode, type powercfg /hibernation off) to save an extra 6gb of storage.

Gaming / Photography / Video Editing BEAST

My review is simply based of my primary uses for the laptop.
Asthetic
This lap top is absolutely beautiful, the 144mhz screen making even a browsing experience smooth and gorgeous. The new coloring gold and black is extremely pleasing. They keyboard is what you'd expect from steel series and I've had just as much fun customizing layouts as I have using the laptop. The keyboard feels plenty deep for how thin this laptop is, and the 4mm bezel on the monitor seems as if I'm looking through a window rather than a screen.
Performance
Gaming - Runs every game I've played maxed out with 40+ FPS! Fans kick on a bit loud but I never planned on using my laptop without headphones. Regardless fans are not in issue with or without!
Photo/Video - I shoot large prints for clients and when working with a 60x80 inch templlate I needed some power to render these files and this laptop does it with zero issues! Did I mention I'm also running 10 tabs and a game at the same time? Video is also extremely seamless with Adobe Premire!
Overall this is the best laptop I've ever purchased, thank you MSI for crafting an "apple" quality laptop for PC lovers, seriously can't stand Mac OS and now I can get the same slim / clean look as well as performance with all my favorite games and programs!
10/10 !
PS> I prop my laptop on a stand to keep it nice and cool! This laptop does get a bit hot when gaming but is an easy fix with a little leverage!

Although the specs and portability seem good for the price, the build quality of this laptop is downright horrible. There is a lot of chassis flex, especially around the power button and underneath the keyboard.
In addition, the trackpad is odd by not being physically clickable from the middle to the top. The very far bottom corners are not clickable either. Trying to click when not staring directly at the trackpad always felt like a gamble and I had to be ready for when my computer did not register a click. Out of the box, the trackpad would pick up unintended drags (not clicks, DRAGS), making something as simple as viewing a webpage a problematic nightmare. Through software tweaking, this was fixed. However, during gameplay most games would not register camera movement with the trackpad 100% of the time (always felt like 65% of the time, no matter how often I changed the trackpad settings both in-game and within Windows).
Not to mention the other numerous software glitches I experienced with this unit, such as unnecessary graphics switching (which would make the computer freeze and skip momentarily every 5 to 7 seconds), failed Windows updates on different networks, and random instances where the current window I was viewing would either be clicked off of (without touching the trackpad at all) or would close out completely and not detect it crashed.
My particular unit was plagued with terrible screen bleed and had 3 stuck pixels. To me, all of this is unacceptable for a laptop that costs $2,000.
The size and weight of the laptop is excellent for a machine with these specs, but of course it would be with no chassis reinforcement.
Do not purchase this machine. I see there are plenty of positive reviews from others regarding the same device, however I have a lot of consumer electronics experience (especially in computers) with different builds and brands, and this computer falls on my “do not buy” list, which is pretty rare.

Just purchased this laptop and is by far the fastest laptop Ive ever had. Very thin and practical. battery life is amazing and of course one can game on it no problem. It gets a little hot especially on the back part of keyboard. however, this is understandable because of its size. Built quality is great too. it looks and feel premium.

This laptop is thin, powerful, and cool. I say cool for both meanings. I can immediately tell that the designers did everything they could to make sure this bad boy has enough ventilation to keep itself at cool temperatures.
My previous laptop was a Razor Blade Pro and it was a nightmare heat situation. Typing on my Razor was its own minigame of how long I could keep my palms on the palm rests without sweating. After the Razor, I vowed to never get a thin and light gaming laptop again, so I bought the humongous Alienware R5 two weeks ago. Unfortunately, the Alienware "laptop" was just too huge, too heavy. Furthermore, the $1800 model Alienware I got didn't have a screen with high refresh rates (I did enjoy the keyboard though). So two weeks later, I realized I needed to give "thin and light" gaming one more chance, and this time I would buy my laptop with ventilation in mind.
This MSI GS65 has the vents. It has the power. It has the portabilty. I am happy.
Also, the trackpad is good. All those online video reviews are really nitpicking when they bring up the trackpad.

Amazing Laptop

Back Story: I’m a fulltime computer engineering student who has been looking for a laptop for the past couple of months. Previously, I’ve been using a customized HP Pavilion laptop, but after a year, one of the hinges for the screen snapped off. When opening my laptop, I was disappointed to learn that the hinge that held the screw was made from plastic. Additionally, I noticed that the battery was both leaking and cracking which is extremely dangerous. I got a new battery and fixed that issue, but there wasn’t a way for me to repair the plastic hinge. In the end, I resorted to looking for a new laptop before going back to classes in the fall. Now on to the review!
Performance: The performance for the GS65 is outstanding! Especially since the laptop runs on the 8th Gen Intel processor and one of the higher end NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards, you can see how smooth the laptop runs when surfing the web or gaming. Paired with the 144hz monitor, the display is very vibrant and clean to the eyes. This is my first ever 144hz monitor and I can already tell the difference just by scrolling on web pages. The refresh rate allows for clean performance (goodbye blurring text!). Gaming wise, I’ve been getting consistent FPS (70+) from intensive games such as Rainbow Six Siege and Battlefield 4 on max setting. Less intensive games like Runes Scape or League of Legends will run wonderfully.
Build/Design Quality: Amazing! The chassis of the laptop is made from thin aluminum which in turns makes the laptop very lightweight. There is slight flexing in some areas of the laptop, but you will hardly notice this. I do want to note that the laptop is very prone to collecting fingerprints/oil. The overall design is one of the best parts of this laptop. No longer do I need to feel embarrassed when pulling out a bulky laptop for class. The laptop is very slim and sleek with the black and gold color. Regarding the keyboard, the buttons are all widely spaced apart and feel great. Additionally, you are free to customize the lighting of every single key individually. Quality wise, the lighting is very beautiful.
Battery: The battery life on this laptop is fantastic. Casually surfing the web and using simple programs will last you anywhere from 5 to 10 hours. Gaming would be around 1 to 4 hours. Regardless, you would want to have the charger in the laptop when gaming as the performance will be bad by default.
Audio Quality: The audio driver is great, but the built-in speakers are awful. The speakers are located under the laptop which worsens the sound. In most cases, I end up using my headphones.
Conclusion: Overall, the price tag might be much, but I highly would recommend this laptop! As a student, this laptop has fulfilled every aspect that I’ve been looking for in a new laptop. For such a small device, it has an insane amount of power for both gaming and content creation.
