A wonderful laptop for simple tasks and gaming

This laptop is beautiful. The laptop is a beast for gaming and is amazing to use as a notebook. The keyboard is great, way better then a full size( allows for you to have your hands center while typing). Only thing is the top portion of the laptop does get pretty hot. Makes it a little uncomfortable to use at times. But all in all a great purchase.

Great Gaming Laptop but it gets Hot

This has been a great bang for the buck laptop, is thing factor means I can carry around to class. It is also has very good specs such as a 6 core processor and 1070. It great for Photoshop and video games. My only complain would be the fact that it does become extremely hot under stress, due to its thin factor, otherwise its a great atop

This is an excellent notebook. I just upgraded to this from a Macbook Pro, and the difference is night and day. This notebook is fast, light, and powerful. The build quality is very good, the screen is sharp, and it can run everything I throw at it without trouble, from games to Photoshop to rendering software. Easily a 5 star notebook.

    Amazing lightweight gaming laptop

I purchased this laptop about a month ago because I will be studying mechanical engineering next year, and I need a computer that can run demanding programs with ease (and game when I want but don't tell my parents that part). I did my research and came across this product and fell in love with it immediately. It is more than capable of everyday tasks and eats up any game I throw its way. The per-key RGB keyboard is extremely customizable, as well as mesmerizing to look at. The display is amazing and nice to look at with the thin bezels surrounding it. The build quality is pretty good, however there is some flex in the body when you rest your wrists near the trackpad. But considering this is a very light and powerful machine I think the small body flex is a fair trade off. The trackpad is very nice to use as it uses multi-touch technology so you can use multiple fingers for various system commands. The battery life is good for a machine this capable; but if you're used to the battery life of a standard notebook that just has Microsoft Word open all day like I was, the battery seems to go quickly. Overall, I love this computer and I'm glad I chose it to help me in college.

I never expected this laptop to run as well as it has been. I've only had it for a few days now, but I have already been blown away by what this laptop can do. Out of all of the MSI GS65 models this one has got to have the most power for price, I mean it's a super thin gaming laptop, with a gtx 1070, 24gb of DDR4 RAM, and a 512gb SSD all for the low price of 1,999.99 (or $1,899.99 if you're a student). In the past I've made the choice to stay away from gaming laptops because of their lack of battery life, weight, and overall mediocre performance, but this new line of MSI laptops has me hopeful for what gaming laptops are going to and should look like in the future. Even under load this computer manages to stay much more quiet than you would ever suspect something this small to. Overall I would highly recommend this laptop to anyone that's looking for stellar performance and overall decent price. Plus it can play Fortnite easily at 144fps on max settings. Also if you're deciding between the 1060 and 1070 versions of this laptop I would highly recommend paying that little bit extra for this one in order to get full use out of the 144Hz display.

The MSI stealth thin is a Great choice for a mainstream Gaming laptop on the GO, pros -lightweight -great steelseries keyboard Cons -Heat -pricey The stealth thin is a great laptop, Dont expect to run anything at Max settings online, but for anyone who wants the portability with the ability to play alot of mainstream games on the go its a great choice NOT A REPLACEMENT FOR A GAMING DESKTOP!!! this is an addition to a gaming setup. You can build or buy a Desktop with 4x the power for 2/3rds of the cost. otherwise enjoy a great product -

Got the Laptop with with the following config: Corei7, 8GB DDR5 Geforce GTX 1070, 16GB DDR4, 512GB SSD (GS65 Stealth Thin 8RF). Although this Laptop is not being used for Games, it is an excellent laptop for developers/infrastructure engineers (virtualization). Pros - It has a Thunderbolt 3 port (for using Docks and multiple displays), RAM can be upgraded to 32GB. - It has a customizable keyboard - MSI Dragon Center which can be used to customize a lot of settings (fan speed, DPI, Color, Hot Keys, Recovery Burner - Recovery Image) - Compared to the feature set. seems light Cons - Cannot easily perform an upgrade, have to tear down the entire laptop Overall Extremely satisfied with this laptop and the overall design. Doesn't look bulky, feels light and has a sleek design. The display is quite slim and the borders are quite small. Extremely powerful with a nice feature set.

This laptop is beautiful, it only weighs 4 pounds what else can you say for a gaming laptop. They keyboard is perfection and the way the laptop look is perfect. On the downside the laptop does get hot, even when its doing regular things such as watching youtube or other things. The graphics are great, its an all around great machine.

So far it has been wonderful

I have had this laptop now for two weeks. I am now past the point of refund from the store and I still feel I would not need to or want to return this product. Immediately I fell in love with the matte color with gold trim, and the GTX1070 was a complete selling point along with the crazy refresh rate. The SSD carries itself well and overall the laptop runs very quickly compared to my ASUS ROG Strix GL502VM that has a 1TB Sata HDD and GTX1060. Thus why I have upgraded to the MSI SGS65 Stealth Thin. At this point I have played only two games on this rig. However, they are rather GPU and CPU intensive; Escape from Tarkov and Squad. I plan to play ARMA as well as GTA V but am waiting to grab another SSD to avoid overloading my default SSD which is a relatively small size at 512Gb. So far, both of these games have run exceptionally well with the GS65. Escape from Tarkov is terribly optimized still as it is in Beta testing, but even so, this laptop ran it wonderfully. And for Squad; Looks and runs amazing! Now there are a few concerns I have that I am hoping will not turn in to some of the horror stories I have heard about this product. I have noticed at several occasions screen flickering as if the computer is trying to determine which graphics to use (dedicated or on-board) and that launching the Dragon Center via the function and dragon center keys fails to launch far too often. I did recently update dragon center to 2.2 so as to be compatible with my cellphone, so if I continue to experience this I may need to revert. As far as the screen flickering, I was on battery and browsing incognito. Not exactly computer literate so I cannot diagnose the issues professionally, but both of these issues have happened after the Dragon Center 2.2. install. I have gamed on this laptop at max settings for over 10 hours continually and I received no serious lag spikes or frame rate issues due to throttling or lack of power. I have heard that this machine tends to really throttle itself so I will be looking out for that in the future and will now start monitoring temps, as before I didn't it was necessary as all gameplay attempts went very smoothly. As of this moment, I am enjoying the heck out of this laptop. This review will be updated and MSI contacted if the screen and dragon center issues keep happening. For now, wonderful machine.

    Beautiful and Powerful Laptop

This laptop is absolutely BEAUTIFUL and a BEAUTIFUL gaming laptop. Seriously. I cannot stop looking at this laptop. I have not tried too many games yet but the reviews seems to suggest that it is great for gaming. I am planning to bring this laptop to an upcoming LAN party and so I may have more to say regarding its gaming performance later. However, so far, it has been great to use around the house and the battery life has been not bad at all despite how packed the laptop is with an amazing graphics card and CPU. I did notice that the fan come on fairly often and the computer can get hot. Therefore, you may want to look online to see recommendations re undervolting etc. I actually undervolted mine but it isn't running any cooler... just better =_= The keyboard is actually pretty great and I can use all the ports to set up my dual monitors. I definitely would recommend this laptop if you are looking for a mobile gaming laptop. If you are willing to lug around a bigger beast, MSI does offer other laptops with better cooling and that are not throttled by Max-Q and so I would recommend those if you main goal is gaming.

    Best Price To Performance Ratio

I was originally hesitant on purchasing this laptop do to some build quality concerns. However after checking out some of the other competition out there, I could not justify the price difference for the same internals. I have had this laptop for a few weeks now and it has been nothing but amazing. I spend 80% of my time working in the Architecture/Engineering fields and the other 20% gaming and this laptop handled it all very well. The keyboard has good travel and is very crisp. It did get a bit toasty under long periods of heavy work loads but that's expected and I picked up an opolar to help bring the temperatures down. Again on build quality, the laptop does have quite a bit of flex, more than other laptops, but that's to be expected with how thin and light it is. Overall for the performance to price ratio this is best thin and light gaming laptop out there.

I picked this up as a working / gaming computer. The product is sleek enough to pass for a working computer but beast enough to run any possible thing you can throw at it really well. Its light. Only thing is the frame is a little flimsy and it gets hot, but with this kind of power and light weight its to be expected.

Gamer specs in a professional package

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

When I first got the laptop, I was surprised by how small it was compared to other 15 inch laptops I have been looking at. Everything is crammed into a small case, which allows for it to be more easily carried around. There are also downsides to having such powerful internals in a compact device. Whenever I game, even on less intensive games like League of Legends, the laptop can almost reach 90 degrees Celsius unless the fans are cranked up really high. With a headset though, it can help. I have never been used to typing with shallow keys before, but after practicing for a couple hours, it became much easier. One thing I would recommend is to download new Steelseries drivers because I had trouble registering keystrokes. I have yet to try graphically intensive games, but I am sure the 1070 can handle it, and I will be able to enjoy the 144hz screen. Even though the screen is only 1080p, the pixel density is insane and everything is crystal clear. So overall, the device is great for professional use and for gaming, and its only downsides is overheating and loud fans when hot.

I bought this laptop for college and I can't be happier with its performance. It is the fastest computer that I have ever used, and when gaming it does a great job. The only con is if you were to game with it on your lap it does tend to get pretty hot, but I game on a desk so it's not really an issue for me.

Even Better Than I Had Hoped

I've been watching video reviews of this laptop as well as reading online reviews people have done on engineering copies of this laptop and I decided it was the one I wanted. I purchased it immediately, as soon as it became available. While it is new to me, it has performed very well so far. I am a photographer, and I purchased this laptop primarily for lightroom and photoshop, with the intent of also using it for adobe premiere in the future. I wanted something light weight and compact so that I could travel easily with it. I will be using this in the studio as well as out of the studio at hotels or on location shoots. It is quiet, thin, surprisingly light, and performs tasks in lightroom and photoshop VERY smoothly. It is just as useable as my high end build desktop PC is. I will say one thing I saw on the review videos and on other reviews that concerned me, which was the build quality and reviewers talking about flex in the body. I can tell you now that it is not at all a reason for concern as far as my opinion goes. It feels very solid, and I'm very happy with it.

This is a great laptop because it can do high end gaming while still looking profession in a business setting. It is also so thin and light to carry around. It is worth noting that a cooling pad makes a great companion as it can get pretty hot running at high settings. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase.

For somebody who has recently gotten back into gaming I wanted something portable that was not going to struggle with any of the latest games. I have not been disappointed. This bad boy will play Far Cry 5 and COD WW2 on Ultra settings. The screen is amazing and very smooth. My friends are jealous :-)

    great with some work

Overall, great laptop after a few days of work. This model BestBuy sells is a base model, so I added a second SSD. The tear down was a little technical, but with the teardown video online and decent tools really was not a problem. Clean install of windows was more of a grunt, but after a few days of twiddling, it's a good running laptop that can handle whatever you want to throw at it. Yes, under load it does generate some heat and the fans get a little shrill, but nothing that is unexpected for such a slim device.

    The Only Balanced laptop

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

PROS: • Great Performance, the CPU and GPU do not thermal throttle when air flow is adequate. • Great cooling options, throttling depends on room temperature and good cooling at 25C. • Great laptop in terms of appearance, the best from MSI yet. • Great screen with amazing color and refresh rate. • Overall the best-balanced laptop in the market in terms of build, performance, cooling and appearance. CONS: • Build quality should be improved, feels flimsy and should be better reinforced with thicker panelling. • One of the keyboard LEDs stopped showing green color so any color with green would not turn on the LED. This restricts the color options for the keyboard significantly. • Minor software bugs with the audio, but could be solved with some tinkering, still annoying. RECOMMENDATION: • MSI should increase reinforcement of the chassis as weight is not an issue but overall build quality and feel is more important. • They should improve UI/UX of their software and consolidate it for better experience.
